The ancient method of sex forecasting using the Chinese calendar is a fun way to guess the gender of a baby in the womb. To use this chart for predicting the sex of the baby, you will need two pieces of information: the month and the lunar age of the mother at the time of conception or fertilization. There is no evidence that this gender chart is accurate, but some people have verified it, while others are just using it for fun.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Knowing the Gender
Step 1. Know the lunar age of the mother at conception
The Chinese use the lunar calendar, which is different from the Gregorian calendar. Therefore, you should calculate the mother's age "based on the lunar calendar, not the Common Era".
- First, add one year to your age. You are 32 years old now? According to the Chinese calendar, you are at least 33 years old (possibly even 34). The Chinese calendar also counts the first nine months in the womb. So, when the baby is born, he is already one year old according to the lunar calendar.
- If you were born after February 22, calculate your AD age and add 1 (rounded up from nine months in the womb). If you are 17 years old and born July 11, you are 18 years old according to the lunar calendar.
-
If you were born before February 22, find out if your birthday was “before” or “after” the Chinese New Year in the year you were born. If you were born before Chinese New Year, add one year to your Gregorian age.
For example, suppose you were born in January 1990, and the Chinese New Year in 1990 fell on January 27. That is, according to the lunar calendar, you were born "before" the New Year. Therefore, in a lunar year, you are two years older than your Common Era
- If you are having trouble converting your Gregorian to lunar age, look for an online converter or click here.
Step 2. Determine the lunar month in which conception occurred
If conception has not occurred, determine the month of conception you want. Or, conversely, use the calendar and select the desired gender to determine when conception should occur.
The easiest way to convert the actual or desired month of conception to the lunar calendar is to use an online converter. Type “Convert Gregorian calendar to lunar”, or use this
Step 3. Using the following graph, find the intersection of your lunar age and the baby's month of conception
Start at your lunar age at conception and drag right until you find the lunar month at conception. See if the result is G (female) or B (male).
Method 2 of 2: Additional Information
Step 1. Use the gender chart and select the gender you want
Many families use this sex chart after conception, while others use it before conception to select the sex of their child. Whatever the gender of your child, you are sure to love him. But what if you could find out before he was born?
Step 2. Remember, for accurate calculations, always use a lunar date based on the time of conception
- Charts that do not use the lunar calendar as a guide are not accurate. Be careful of reading using the Gregorian calendar.
- Be sure to choose a date based on the date of conception, especially when determining age. Choose your age at conception, not your current age.
Step 3. Be aware that there is no scientific basis for this graph
Science has not succeeded in verifying the accuracy of this graph. So don't just rely on this chart to predict the gender of your baby. There are scientific ways to predict the sex of your baby, such as ultrasound and amniocentesis - but Chinese birth charts are not included.
