There are many ways to cook bacon, but frying it is one of the most common classic ways. Delicious bacon eaten with eggs, pancakes, or various other breakfast menus. You can even crush them and sprinkle them over salads. Very practical. This article not only tells you how to fry bacon the right way, but also gives you a variety of ideas for making bacon that's tastier and more seasoned. Don't have a stove, cast iron skillet, or Teflon for frying bacon? Do not worry! You can still enjoy no less delicious bacon by following the simple tips below.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Frying Bacon
Step 1. Use bacon that has been left at room temperature
Remove the bacon from the refrigerator and let it rest for 5 minutes to allow the fat to soften. Don't fry bacon frozen! If you like, you can season the bacon with simple herbs or soak it in the seasoning solution at this point. Read on to find out which seasonings will go perfectly with your bacon.
Frozen bacon you have to soften first. Do not fry bacon frozen. Set aside the bacon, let it soften on its own, or soak it in room temperature water to speed up the process. Don't soften the bacon by microwave it
Step 2. Arrange the bacon on an unheated frying pan or Teflon
Arrange a few pieces of bacon on a frying pan or Teflon about 30 cm in diameter. The position of the bacon should be close but not overlapping so that it cooks evenly.
A cast-iron skillet cooks bacon faster. If you don't have one, a regular or Teflon pan will work just as well
Step 3. Turn on the stove and start frying the bacon
Using low heat, let the bacon cooking process run. As the bacon starts to heat up, the fat will pool to the bottom of the pan. The oil from the bacon fat will make the cooking process more even. If the bacon you're cooking has too much fat, set it aside in a bowl. Don't pour hot oil into the dishwasher if you don't want your sink to clog later.
If you like the texture of the bacon crunchy, pour enough water into the pan. Cook the soaked bacon over high heat. As soon as the water boils, reduce the heat. Let stand until the water runs out, continue cooking the bacon until it turns golden brown
Step 4. When the bacon starts to curl, flip it over with a fork
After a few minutes, your bacon should start to curl, indicating that the underside is done. Flip it over with a fork like you would with a spatula, or slip a sheet of bacon between the fork's fingers and flip right away. The second way seems easier for you to implement because it is more stable.
Step 5. Continue to cook until the bacon is cooked
The time you need to cook will depend on the desired level of doneness. If you like extra crunchy bacon, of course you'll need a longer cooking time.
Step 6. Drain the cooked bacon
When the bacon has reached the desired level of doneness, drain the bacon on a plate lined with paper towels before serving.
You can also drain the bacon on a sheet of newspaper, a piece of paper bag, or a wire rack placed on a tray
Method 2 of 3: Seasoning the Bacon
Step 1. Vary your serving of bacon
Want your bacon to be tastier and more seasoned? Before frying, coat the bacon with various spices or soak the bacon first in the seasoning solution. You can also combine it with other ingredients according to taste. In this section, you'll find some creative ideas for adding flavor to bacon. To learn how to fry bacon, read the section 'Frying Bacon'.
Step 2. Season the bacon
Coat the bacon with various types of herbs and spices to make it even more delicious. Make sure the bacon isn't frozen before you coat it with the seasoning. Let stand a few moments for the spices to infuse. Some of these combinations you can try:
- 1 tbsp palm sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon, and 1 tsp apple powder.
- 1 tsp palm sugar and tsp ground pepper.
- 1 tbsp garlic powder and 1 tbsp chopped paprika.
- 1 tbsp brown sugar.
Step 3. Marinate the bacon in your favorite dressing, salad dressing, or syrup
Take a few slices of bacon and drizzle your favorite sauce over them. Make sure all the bacon is covered in the sauce. Place in the refrigerator and let sit for 30 minutes to allow the flavors to infuse. Bacon is ready to be fried as usual. The marinade recipes below are worth trying at home:
- 250 ml pineapple juice and 1 tsp soy sauce
- Italian salad dressing
- Molasses
- Teriyaki sauce
- Maple syrup. Use a type of syrup that is not too thick.
- When cooked, these sauces will caramelize so your pan will feel sticky.
Step 4. Make the bacon pancakes
You can also combine two of your most favorite breakfast menus in one plate; bacon and pancakes! Make pancake batter while frying bacon. Drain the bacon, absorb the excess oil using a paper towel, removing the excess oil remaining in the pan. Arrange the bacon back on the skillet, leaving at least 5 cm between the bacon. Pour pancake batter over each bacon sheet, cook until small bubbles appear on the batter (about 1-2 minutes). Flip the bacon pancakes over, and cook until the pancakes turn golden brown (about 2 minutes).
Method 3 of 3: Other Alternatives to Cooking Bacon
Step 1. Use another method to cook bacon
Generally, bacon is fried. But for those of you who don't have enough time or tools, don't worry. You can still enjoy delicious bacon in the microwave, oven or grill.
Step 2. Microwave the bacon
Prepare a plate, line it with paper towels, arrange the bacon on it, cover it again with paper towels. Put the plate in the microwave and cook the bacon for a few minutes. Each microwave is different, so there's no fixed time when your bacon will cook. Instead, do not do other activities and wait until your bacon is completely cooked.
The more paper towels you use, the more oil will be absorbed, which will make your bacon crispier
Step 3. Bake the bacon in the oven
Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil, hang a wire rack above it. Arrange the bacon on a wire rack and place it in the preheated oven. Turn on the oven, set at 400°F or 205°C. Bake the bacon for about 20 minutes. For a crispier texture, bake the bacon a little longer.
- Flip your bacon. Bake the bacon for 12-15 minutes, then flip the bacon over. Continue the baking process for 10 minutes.
- If arranged on a wire rack, the excess oil will drip onto the pan and not soak the bacon. This will help the bacon cook more evenly.
- Placing the bacon in the preheated oven will prevent the bacon from shrinking as it cooks.
Step 4. Cook the bacon using a grill
Heat your grill to medium heat. Once the grill is hot, arrange the bacon on top. Once one side has turned golden brown and is crunchy in texture, flip the bacon over and broil until fully cooked (about 5-7 minutes).
Tips
- Pour enough water into the pan with bacon, cook over high heat until the water boils, reduce the heat when the water begins to shrink. This process will result in a crispier bacon.
- Arrange the bacon on the preheated skillet.
- Marinate or coat the bacon with your favorite seasoning to make it even more delicious.
- Do not throw away the oil used to fry the bacon. You can use the used frying oil to cook other foods. Be careful not to pour bacon grease into the sink if you don't want your sink to clog later.
Warning
- While cooking, you should not do other activities because you may forget. Surely you don't want to eat charred bacon or worse, fix a house on fire because of your negligence, do you?
- Oil splatter that appears while frying is normal. Always be careful when cooking so that the splash of oil doesn't hurt your skin.
