Method 1 of 3: Enjoy Sardines Hassle-Free
Step 1. Eat sardines straight from the can
You don't need a confusing recipe to enjoy sardines! Just grab a fork and eat sardines straight out of the can for a healthy, protein-rich snack. You can add a little lemon juice, chili sauce, or balsamic vinegar if you like.
Canned sardines are perfect for backpacker-style travel or as an emergency meal
Step 2. Add the sardines to the salad
Sardines add another flavor to salads! Mix sardines into your favorite salad recipe or try adding chopped sardines, oranges, olives, and hard-boiled eggs to your favorite salad. Finish with a simple salad dressing and enjoy!
Step 3. Serve with toast
The salty taste and rich texture of the sardines go well with the crispy and crunchy toast. Simply toast your favorite bread, grease it with butter, and spread the sardines on top. Or, you can spread mayonnaise on toast, adding sardines and a little dill.
Step 4. Enjoy the sardines with biscuits
Choose your favorite biscuit and add sardines on top. Add a little chili sauce if you like spicy snacks! You can also spread mayonnaise or mustard on the biscuits before adding the sardines if you prefer.
Step 5. Add sauteed sardines to pasta dishes
Pour some olive oil into the skillet. Add the sardines and chopped garlic and cook on low heat until the garlic changes color. Add the sardines and garlic to your favorite pasta. Try adding sardines to fettuccine pasta and alfredo sauce or mixing them with linguine, capers, and lemon.
Step 6. Add the sardines to the pizza
Sardines are perfect for pizza! Add the sardines on top of the pepperoni pizza and sausage for an extra flavour. Or, sprinkle the sweating onion over the pizza dough, sprinkle the sardines on top, then drizzle the olive oil, and finally add the salt, pepper, and crème fraîche. Bake for 10-15 minutes at 232 °C.
Method 2 of 3: Making Fisherman's Eggs
Step 1. Preheat the oven and serving dish
Set the oven to 260 °C and preheat an oven-safe serving dish for 5 minutes in the oven.
Step 2. Add the chopped onion, garlic, parsley, and sardines to the preheated bowl
Use a cutting board and sharp knife to chop 1 small onion, 2 garlic cloves, and 3 parsley stalks. Add these ingredients, as well as canned sardines to the bowl. Sprinkle black pepper on top.
Step 3. Cook for 6 minutes, then remove from the bowl and add the eggs
Place the container in the oven and cook for 6 minutes. Using a pot holder, carefully remove the container from the oven. Crack 4 eggs in a bowl and slowly pour them into a serving bowl. Season the eggs with salt and pepper.
Step 4. Cook for another 7 minutes, then let it rest for another 5 minutes
Put the container in the oven again and cook for another 7 minutes. The egg whites will be cooked, but still a little runny. Remove the container with a pot holder and leave for 5 minutes to allow the cooking process to continue. Serve fisherman's eggs with toast or chili sauce.
Method 3 of 3: Frying Sardines
Step 1. Prepare the materials
Wash the sardines and dry them. Put 60g of flour in a bowl and season with salt and pepper. In another bowl, beat 2 eggs and 15 ml of water. Prepare 120g of breadcrumbs in another bowl.
Step 2. Coat the sardines with flour, egg and breadcrumbs
Dip 2 or 3 pieces of sardines into the flour and roll until the entire surface is lightly coated. Scrape off excess flour and dip the sardines into the egg bowl. Then transfer the sardines to a breadcrumbs bowl and roll them in until the flour is evenly distributed. Repeat until all the sardines are finished flouring.
Step 3. Fry the sardines in oil for 6-7 minutes
Heat 120 ml of oil in a frying pan or skillet over medium heat. Apply the batch system, put one batch of sardines in a row. Cook until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes. Flip and continue to fry until the sardines are cooked through, about 3 minutes.
- Repeat until all sardines are fried.
- For the next batch, add more oil if needed.
Step 4. Season the sardines with salt
Place cooked sardines on a plate lined with paper towels. Add salt while the sardines are still hot.
Step 5. Serve with capers and fried parsley
Heat 30 ml of oil in the same skillet. Add 60g of drained and rinsed capers and 60g of fresh parsley to the oil. Fry for 1 minute, then remove capers and parsley, and sprinkle over sardines. Enjoy!
