As soon as September arrives, scarf season comes. Whether you wear a scarf for warmth or style, there are dozens of ways to tie it. Try wearing it around your neck, in your hair, or one of a number of other ways for a unique new look.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Wearing Your Scarf Around Your Neck
Step 1. Wear it in a simple twist
One of the most basic and interesting ways to wear a scarf is simply to wrap it around your neck. Wrap the scarf around your neck to create a loop, with the ends hanging freely in front. Pull the loop slightly to loosen it up a bit and create a more relaxed look. If you're trying to avoid the cold, you can wrap the scarf around your neck a few times.
Step 2. Make a knot loop
For a more elaborate style with a simple twist, tie the ends together after wrapping them around your neck once or twice. Loosen the knot so it's not too tight, so the ends are better attached. If you want, you can tie the ends in a loop to really hide them or you can leave them hanging.
Step 3. Create a rough knot
If you don't want your scarf not to be circular but still want something basic, wrap your scarf in a rough knot. Fold your scarf in half, then place it around your neck. Pull the two ends through the loop you just created and adjust the fabric so that it looks beautiful waving on your body.
Step 4. Make the number 8 knot
Make a more stylish rough knot with the 8 knot. Fold your scarf in half and place it around your neck. Take one end and pull it through the loop on the other side of your neck. Then rotate the loop 180 degrees to create a second loop, and pull the second end through the loop. Pull the fabric away and adjust how it looks against your chest.
Step 5. Try making a braided scarf
If the number 8 scarf isn't enough for you, continue the process of 'braiding' your scarf. Make a rough knot around your neck, and pull one end through the loop. Then, turn the loop 180 degrees to form a second loop. Pull the second end through this loop, then rotate the loop another 180 degrees to create a third loop. Continue this pattern until the fabric is used up.
Step 6. Tie your scarf into a circular scarf
Take the hassle out of dangling scarf tassels by turning your scarf into an endless scarf. Flatten your scarf on a table, and fold it in half. Tie the corners (and if your scarf has tassels, tie in the middle) to create a large loop. Then wrap it around your neck with the knot at the nape of your neck. If the scarf is long enough, double the loop to create multiple layers and make it shorter.
Step 7. Make a chain knot on your scarf
This style looks great with a button-down jacket or blazer. Wrap your scarf around your neck with both ends in front. Tie both ends in a knot at your preferred height, then knot the ends again. Continue knotting until you run out of material and create a long 'chain' of fabric.
Step 8. Make an artificial double knot
Place your scarf around your neck so that the ends are in front, running along your chest. Adjust the scarf so that one end is slightly longer than the other. Tie the longer end into a separate knot, but don't pull it tight. Then, tuck the end from the other side through the center of the knot you just formed. Move the knot up or down as you like.
Step 9. Tie your scarf in half a ribbon
Tie your scarf around your neck so that one side is twice as long as the other. Wrap the longer end around the shorter side to create a knot. Then wrap it around the shorter end, and pull it through the hole from the center of the end. Picking it up from the center will create a slightly flattened, small knot that can be pulled and worn over the shorter (now longer) end. The end of the knot will be hidden behind it.
Step 10. Tie your scarf in a full ribbon
Wrap your scarf around your neck with both ends in front. Loosely tie both ends in a regular knot in front, then follow how to tie a ribbon in the traditional bunny ear style. Leave the ribbon large and loose for the most casual look.
Method 2 of 3: Wearing Your Scarf in Your Hair
Step 1. Wear your scarf as a bandana
This style looks great with a square scarf. Flatten your scarf and wear it over your head with the ends dangling back. Then tie both ends (under or above your hair, as you like) in a tight knot. If the ends are very long, you can wrap them around the base of your ponytail or braid them through your hair.
Step 2. Create the turban headband
Flatten your scarf and roll or fold it into a long, narrow piece of fabric. Wrap it around your hair so that the ends end above your forehead. Then, tie both ends in a tight double knot. Tuck or tuck the ends into the underside of the headband. A square scarf is great for this headband style.
Step 3. Tie your scarf in a ribbon around your hair
Style your hair in a style or braid depending on your choice of style. Then, wrap a thin (smaller the better) scarf around the base of your pigtail in a regular knot. Tie the ends in a knot, adjust the fabric, and your hair now has an added element of sweetness.
Step 4. Create a rustic style headband
If you have a long scarf in a light material, try this headband style. Fold the scarf in half to create a loop at one end and two strands at the other. Tie the scarf around your head so that both loops and ends end over your forehead. Then pull the ends through the loop, and fold back at the ends. Tuck or tuck the ends into the bottom of the scarf to hide it and prevent the headband from coming off.
Method 3 of 3: Wearing Your Scarf in Other Ways
Step 1. Wear the scarf as a shawl
Flatten the scarf and wrap it around your shoulders, almost like a blanket. You can choose to tie the ends at the front, or loop them under your armpits and tie them at the back. This style is suitable for going out at night wearing a beautiful dress, to keep you from feeling cold.
Step 2. Tie your scarf as a belt
If you have a shirt or dress that is too big, tie a scarf around your waist to make yourself look slimmer by using a long scarf. Tie the scarf around your waist and tie the ends in a simple knot. You can choose to leave the ends hanging freely, or you can twist the ends and thread them into the belt.
Step 3. Add your scarf to your handbag
Sweet ribbon shape on any handbag with a small thin scarf. Wrap her scarf around a handle near the side of her bag, and tie it into a ribbon. Adjust the fabric slightly so that the ribbon is visible from the front of the bag.
Step 4. Wear your scarf as a skirt
If you have a very large scarf, lay it flat and tie it around your waist. Tie the ends in a sarong style around your waist, or clip the piled up fabric for a more professional look.
