When you wash your ballpoint pens, there is a chance that the ink will leak and stain the drum of your dryer. If not cleaned, these stains can contaminate other clothes you put in the machine. It is very important to clean the stains immediately. Below are some methods you can try to remove ink stains from the dryer drum. (Note: the methods described in this article are progressive. If the first method doesn't work, use the following methods until the ink stain is completely gone.)
Step
Step 1. Unplug the dryer for each method you are about to try
This step is very important to prevent electric shock.
Method 1 of 4: Using Dishwashing Soap
Step 1. Mix half a teaspoon of dishwashing soap with a little warm water in a bowl to make a solution
Step 2. Stir the solution until foam is formed
Step 3. Dip a cloth in the soap suds solution
Squeeze so it's not too wet, just damp.
Step 4. Rub the ink stains with a soapy cloth
Repeat until the stain is gone. If the ink smudges persist, you may have to do this process several times.
Step 5. Wipe with a damp cloth to remove any soap residue
If the stain is not gone, continue to the next step.
Method 2 of 4: Using Alcohol
Step 1. Scrub the stained area with a cloth moistened with alcohol
Keep rubbing alcohol on the cloth and scrubbing the drum until the stain is gone. Make sure you change the fabric when necessary.
Step 2. Wipe the area with a damp cloth to remove any residual alcohol
Method 3 of 4: Using Bleach Liquid and Water
Step 1. Mix one part bleach with two parts water in a bucket
Make sure you wear protective gloves when using bleach.
Step 2. Soak an unused towel in a solution of bleach and water
Step 3. Squeeze until no water drips and put the towel in the dryer
Step 4. Run one drying process
Repeat this process until the stain is completely gone.
Step 5. Put the unused cloth or clothes into the dryer and run
If there are still traces of ink stains, the cloths will absorb them.
Step 6. Wipe the dryer drum with a damp cloth to remove any remaining cleaning fluid
Make sure there is no residual cleaning liquid left before you use it to dry your clothes.
Method 4 of 4: Using a Nail Polish
Step 1. Use a nail polish remover that contains acetone
Squirt nail polish remover onto the Magic Eraser sponge.
Step 2. Turn the sponge over as you clean the drum and wipe the drum using the clean part of the sponge
You may need more than one sponge to clean the drum.
- Do not let the acetone come into contact with the plastic parts of the dryer.
- Wear gloves that are not exposed to chemicals.
- Open doors, windows, and make sure you have adequate ventilation so you don't inhale excess vapor. The ventilation mask is not sufficient to prevent inhalation of vapors.
- Do not use this method near fire or sparks. Acetone is highly flammable.
- Keep the room well-ventilated by turning on a fan or opening a window.
Step 3. Once dry, tuck in the unused cloth to make sure your dryer is clean
Run one normal drying process and check. If the cloths are clean, the dryer can be reused. If not, repeat the cleaning process.
Tips
You can use acetone or hairspray instead of alcohol
Warning
- Be careful when using combustible materials such as alcohol and acetone when working with a tumble dryer.
- Do not mix alcohol with bleach.
- Work in a well-ventilated area when using solvents.
