Everyone loves to wear cool, new shoes, but the squeaking of shoes can often be annoying. Prepare to eliminate the squeaking by finding the source of the sound and removing the insole. Eliminate the squeaking sound between the sole and insole with baby powder or WD-40 lubricant. Squeaks caused by friction from the tongue of the shoe can be removed with sandpaper. Other sources of squeaking, such as holes and loose heels, can be fixed with suitable glue.

Method 1 of 3: Finding the Source of Decitan
Step 1. Listen carefully to the squeaking sound of the shoes
Listen to squeaky shoes to find the source of the sound. Press several different areas with your feet while wearing shoes. Shake it back and forth. Try to tiptoe.
- Often, the source of the squeak is in the insole of the shoe. Sometimes, friction on the tongue of the shoe can also cause a squeak.
- Visible damage to the shoe, such as holes in the fabric or rubber, can sometimes cause a squeaking sound.
- Once you know the source of the squeak, you can target this area with some special techniques to get rid of the squeak so that the problem can be resolved quickly.
Step 2. Remove the shoelaces
This will provide easier access to the insole area which is known to be quite difficult to remove on Air Jordan shoes. Pull the shoelaces through the metal holes until they come off. Place the rope in a safe place.
Step 3. Remove the insole
If the insole of the shoe has not been glued together, it can come off easily. If it is glued, pull the tongue of the shoe so that the shoe opens wider. Position your fingers between the side of the shoe and the side of the insole. Peel the insole up by applying firm and steady pressure until it comes off.
- Be careful not to pull too hard as this can damage or deform the insole of the shoe. You can buy replacement insoles at shoe stores, department stores, and general shopping areas.
- Some types of glue can stick to the bottom of the sole or insole of the shoe. Glue can also turn sticky. This is something natural and will not damage your shoes.
Method 2 of 3: Removing Squeaks in Shoe Soles
Step 1. Sprinkle baby powder on the shoes that have the soles removed
Hold the shoe with the position slightly tilted down. Sprinkle baby powder or talcum powder a few times into the shoes. Keep your shoes straight and shake them so that the powder spreads evenly.
- Gently massage the powder with your hands into the areas inside the sole that are the source of the squeaking sound.
- To spread the powder more evenly inside the sole, replace the insole and wear the shoe for 10-15 seconds, then remove the insole.
Step 2. Remove excess powder from inside the shoe
For best results, leave the powder in the shoe overnight. In the morning, position the shoes upside down on the trash can. Shake the shoe and tap gently to remove the powder inside.
To maintain the shape of the shoe when left overnight, tuck in a few clumps of newsprint. Take it out and throw it away in the morning
Step 3. Eliminate squeaky shoes with WD-40 as an alternative
Take your shoes outside and spread a cloth or newspaper pad underneath to catch any grease droplets. Spray WD-40 grease lightly all over the sole. Apply WD-40 more accurately by dipping a cotton swab or cotton ball in the lubricant, then rubbing it into the sole of the shoe.
- When the WD-40 lubricant is dry to the touch, your shoe is ready for an insole. Rinse the WD-40 liquid from both your hands to prevent eye or skin irritation.
- If the WD-40 lubricant hits an easily visible area of the shoe, it can discolor the shoe. Wearing too much WD-40 can also damage your shoes.
Step 4. Reinsert the sole and inspect your shoe
tuck the insole back into the shoe. Don't tie your shoelaces just yet, but put your feet in and walk a few steps. If there are no squeaks, put the laces back on and enjoy your now squeaky-free shoes.
Step 5. Reapply WD-40 powder or lubricant as necessary
Over time, your shoes may squeak again. This can usually be resolved by applying WD-40 powder or lubricant again. Shoes that won't stop squeaking are usually physically deformed and should be repaired by a professional.
Method 3 of 3: Fixing Squeaks That Cause Damage
Step 1. Remove the squeaking sound on the tongue of the shoe with sandpaper
If the tongue of the shoe squeaks, it is usually caused by friction between one part of the tongue of the shoe with another part of the shoe. Pull the tongue out until you can sand the edges with fine (120 to 220 grit) sandpaper.
- Depending on the material of the shoe, you may need to use a finer sandpaper. Extra fine sandpaper (240+ grit worth) is the best choice for easily damaged materials.
- Do not sand the exposed, non-problematic part of the tongue of the shoe. While sandpaper can smooth out rough areas that cause squeaking, it can also blur or deform the material on the shoe's surface.
Step 2. Repair damaged shoes or loose heels with glue
If the squeak is coming from a hole or a loose heel, you can fix it with glue. Use water and heat-resistant urethane rubber for the sole. Super glue works well enough to repair holes in most shoe materials. Follow the directions on the glue package for best results.
Some glues contain chemicals that can damage the rubber or material of your shoes. When in doubt, consult a shoe repair expert to find the best glue for your shoes
Step 3. Have a professional fix squeaky shoes
If there's no technique to get rid of the squeaking in your shoes, there could be a physical defect in the shoe that is causing it. Often times, repairs can only be carried out by professionals with specialized equipment.
After frequent wear, shoes should squeak less often. If your shoes continue to squeak after prolonged wear, this is a sign that they need professional repair
