Toner is very important used in skin care. Toners can both cleanse and moisturize, reduce the size of pores, and create a protective layer on the skin. If you want to incorporate a toner into your skincare regimen, be sure to use it between cleansing and moisturizing processes. Use a facial cotton to gently spread the toner all over the face and neck. Choose a toner that is gentle and made from natural ingredients so it won't dry out your skin. You can also make a custom toner according to your own skin needs at home.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Using Toner on Face
Step 1. Wash your face first
Use a cleanser with a little warm water and a soft washcloth to clean your face. Gently massage the cleanser into your facial skin to remove makeup, dirt, and dust. Wash your face thoroughly with warm water then splash a little cold water when you're done. After that, pat your face dry with a clean towel.
Step 2. Pour toner onto facial cotton
Pour in a little toner until the cotton is damp, but not soaking. You can also use a cotton ball in this step if you don't have any other cotton. However, less product will be absorbed by facial cotton than cotton balls. That way, your use of fresheners will be more efficient.
Step 3. Gently apply the toner to the face and neck
Use a facial cotton to rub the product all over the face, neck and upper chest. Avoid the eye area and be careful not to let the freshener touch your lips. Pay close attention to curves in your skin and hard-to-reach areas such as your eyebrows, the sides of your nose, around your ears, and your hairline. The freshener will help remove dirt in areas where the cleaner cannot reach as well as any residue, as well as salt, chlorine, and other chemicals in the water.
Step 4. Spray a second toner to further moisturize the skin
Since spraying the freshener will only dissolve the dirt on the skin, but not remove it, it's always a good idea to wipe it off with a cotton swab first. However, if you want to refresh your skin, you can use a spray freshener after wiping it with a cotton swab.
Step 5. Wait for one minute for the freshener to dry
Since most toners are based on water, they are usually absorbed quickly by the skin. However, make sure the toner is completely absorbed before you use any other product. This will help the skin retain moisture and protect it from dirt.
Step 6. Finish by using other care products and moisturizers
If you use a treatment for acne such as benzoyl peroxide, or another moisturizer, use this treatment after using a toner. Using a toner before other treatments will help cleanse the skin thoroughly while allowing the anti-acne treatment and moisturizer to be absorbed further into the skin.
Step 7. Use a toner twice a day
In general, toners should be used in the morning and evening. In the morning, the toner will help remove the sebum produced overnight and balance the skin's pH. Meanwhile, at night, using a toner will help complete the skin care process by removing any dust, makeup, or dirt that's left after you've used the cleanser. In addition, the freshener can also remove the oil residue of cleaning products.
If your skin is very dry, you may need to use just enough toner at night. Excessive use of toners may dry out your skin even more. If your skin feels very dry, consider buying a dry skin product to reduce dehydration
Method 2 of 3: Buying Freshener
Step 1. Use a toner containing rose water to provide extra moisture
Rose water is known for its moisturizing, cleansing, and refreshing properties, making it great for skin that needs extra moisture while reducing oil. Look for a toner that lists rose water as its main ingredient.
Step 2. Opt for a chamomile-based toner to soothe the skin
If you have problems with dry, red, or sensitive skin, try a toner that contains chamomile. These ingredients can soothe irritated skin, fade dark spots, treat acne, and brighten skin tone.
The combination of chamomile and aloe vera can even help control eczema and rosacea
Step 3. Avoid using alcohol-based toners which can be very drying to the skin
Alcohol is often used as an astringent in strong refreshments. Many people try to use a toner that contains alcohol to treat acne, but this ingredient is easy to irritate and dry out the skin if used too often. So, look for an alcohol-free toner with a gentler formula.
Step 4. Look for natural anti-acne ingredients if you have oily skin
You can control acne and hydrate your skin at the same time by choosing a toner that contains a gentle astringent. Look for ingredients like tea tree oil, orange juice, orange essential oil, and witch hazel.
It's best to just use an astringent once a day to start. Once your skin gets used to it, try increasing the frequency of use to twice a day
Method 3 of 3: Making Your Own Freshener
Step 1. Make a green tea refresher suitable for all skin types
Mix 1 cup (about 250 ml) green tea and 1/2 teaspoon honey. Once the mixture has cooled, add 3 drops of jasmine essential oil. Put this freshener in an airtight bottle and store in a cool place.
- Green tea is considered to stimulate skin rejuvenation.
- Boil the water that will be used to brew the tea for at least 1 minute to kill the bacteria.
Step 2. Use apple cider vinegar mixture for oily skin
Make an oil-controlling toner by mixing the juice of one lemon with a spoonful of apple cider vinegar. After that, add 200 ml of mineral water. Pour the results into an airtight container and store in a cool place.
- Be sure to only use this toner at night as lemon juice will make your skin more sensitive to the sun.
- The apple cider vinegar in this refreshing formula will help restore the skin's pH.
Step 3. Make your own rosewater freshener for sensitive skin
Pour boiling filtered water into a bowl or saucepan containing 1/2 cup (about 120 grams) of dried rosebuds and let sit for 1-2 hours. Use a strainer to remove the flower buds, then pour the water into an airtight container and store in the refrigerator.
- Homemade rosewater should be used within one week. So make the amount you need for one week (1 cup or about 250 ml should be enough)
- To provide extra moisture, add a few drops of geranium oil to your homemade rosewater.
- You can buy rosebuds online or dry your own roses.
Step 4. Store the freshener well
You can store refreshments for up to 3 months after they are made. Make sure to use a clean container. If you are using an old container, be sure to clean it thoroughly and boil it for at least 1 minute in clean water before using it to store the freshener.
