Files with the extension "ODT" come from the "Open Office.org" or LibreOffice programs. If you have Word 2010 or 2013, you can open the ODT file by simply double-clicking it. If you are using an earlier version of Word, or a Mac version of Word, you will need to convert this file format first.

Method 1 of 4: Using “WordPad” (Windows)
Step 1. Right-click the
.odt and select " Open with " → "WordPad".
Note that this method does not work in Windows XP.
If you're using Windows XP or Mac, you can use a conversion service on the internet or your Google Drive account
Step 2. Click " File " and select " Save as " → "Open Office XML document"
Step 3. Give it a name and save the file wherever you like
Now your file has a.doc extension.
Method 2 of 4: Using a Conversion Service
Step 1. Visit a file conversion website
The website will convert your file format and provide a download link for the file in the new format. Here are some of the most popular conversion service websites:

- "FreeFileConvert.com" - freefileconvert.com
Step 2. Upload the
.odt that you want to convert.
The method varies depending on the service you use, but you can usually upload a file by clicking the " Upload " button or dragging the file into your browser window.
Step 3. Choose
.doc as the final format (if needed).
Some conversion sites can change the format the file comes from, so you may have to select.doc from the list of options.
Step 4. Wait for the file to finish converting
This process usually does not take long.
Step 5. Download the converted file
Depending on the service you use, you may be taken to a download page after the file is finished converting, or a download link will be sent to your email.
Method 3 of 4: Using “Google Drive”
Step 1. Sign in to the "Google Drive" site with your Google account
All Google accounts, including Gmail accounts, can be used to access Google Drive. In addition to saving files, this service can also be used to convert the format.
You can sign in to Google Drive at drive.google.com
Step 2. Upload the
.odt to your Drive account.
Once you're in Drive, you can simply drag and drop the file in your browser window to upload it. You can also click the "New" button and select "Upload file".
Step 3. Double click on the uploaded file
After that, Google Drive will open your file.
Step 4. Click the "Open" button at the top of the window
This button will convert the file into Google Docs format and open it with the Google Docs editing service.
Step 5. Click " File " → "Download as" → "Microsoft Word"
The file will be downloaded to your downloads directory in.docx format.

Method 4 of 4: Converting Multiple Files at Once
Step 1. Open the "OpenOffice" program
This method does require the OpenOffice program, but with this program, you can actually convert thousands of.odt documents into.doc format in just a few clicks.
Step 2. Download the BatchConv macro
Macros are files that are used to convert multiple files at once in the OpenOffice program.
You can download the macro from BatchConv oooconv.free.fr/batchconv/batchconv_en.html. The macro will be downloaded in.odt format
Step 3. Open the
BatchConv in OpenOffice.
After that, a window will appear and guide you in converting several files at once.
Step 4. Add the files you want to convert
You can browse and add files one by one, or you can add a directory containing multiple documents.
Step 5. Click the "Export to" menu and select "DOC"
After all files have been converted, you can choose to save the document in the original location or in another location.
Step 6. Click the "Export List" button to start converting the file
This process may take some time if the converted files are large.
