Acne is formed from excess oil on the skin, which can be embarrassing and annoying. After rupture, the skin around the pimple still looks inflamed and red. While it's unlikely that a popped pimple will go away overnight, you can reduce redness and inflammation in the surrounding area. By applying a hydrocolloid patch or applying natural ingredients such as witch hazel or aloe vera, you can minimize the appearance of a newly burst pimple.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Drying Pimples
Step 1. Apply a warm compress
Don't push any further. Pimples will usually burst on their own when the whites of the eyes are removed. When the pus is out, infection can be prevented and inflammation is also reduced. Place a warm washcloth on the side of the pimple until all the pus has been removed.
- Wash your hands before and after touching the pimple.
- White eyes indicate that pus is near the surface of the skin.
- Popping a pimple will damage the skin and spread bacteria to other parts of the face.
Step 2. Apply an antibiotic ointment
A broken pimple is an open wound, and an antibiotic ointment or solution can heal it. Apply an antibiotic ointment to the pimple, such as Neosporin, to help restore and protect the skin.
- Alternatively, use a natural solution, such as witch hazel or warm salt water, if an antibiotic ointment is not available.
- Minor acne sores can heal with an antibiotic ointment in a day or two.
Step 3. Do not exfoliate the pimple skin
After the pimple has burst, you may want to peel off the scab that has formed. Never ever. If the area is disturbed, the pimple will swell, become irritated, and become redder.
Exfoliating the area of the pimple will slow down the healing process. Every time you touch it, you're spreading bacteria and other contaminants to an open wound
Method 2 of 3: Using Hydrocolloid Plaster
Step 1. Clean your face first
Before touching your face, wash your hands thoroughly. Gently clean your face with mild soap and warm water. Move your finger in a circle. When done, rinse with warm water and pat dry with a clean towel.
Step 2. Cut the hydrocolloid patch according to the size of the pimple
If hydrocolloid patches aren't available at your local drugstore, pharmacy, or cosmetic store, try looking for one online. Cut large enough to cover the acne-prone area. After that, peel off the paper covering the adhesive.
- If you're using a patch that's the right size for your pimple, skip this step.
- If the hydrocolloid tape you are using does not come with adhesive, apply medical tape to the sides of the plaster.
Step 3. Cover the pimple with a hydrocolloid patch
Press the adhesive part on the pimple. Evenly position it on the skin, making sure there are no wrinkles or indentations.
- The hydrocolloid plaster absorbs the fluid in the wound and reduces swelling.
- Examples of hydrocolloid plasters are Nexcare Acne Absorbing Covers, Johnson & Johnson Tough Pads, or DuoDERM Dressings.
Step 4. Change the plaster regularly
Leave the hydrocolloid plaster on the face overnight. Change the next day when you wake up in the morning. You will notice that the pus and inflammation around the pimple area has reduced.
- If skin appears irritated or rash appears, discontinue use.
- To remove the tape, lift it from one corner, then gently remove it completely.
Method 3 of 3: Try Natural Remedies
Step 1. Apply calamine lotion
Calamine lotion helps reduce the appearance of acne scars as well as redness and inflammation. Apply with a cotton bud and leave it overnight. When you wake up the next morning, wash your face thoroughly.
Step 2. Apply aloe vera gel
Aloe vera reduces inflammation and promotes recovery, and ultimately makes pimples appear smaller the next day. Apply aloe vera gel with a cotton bud. Use every night until the appearance of breakouts reduces.
Step 3. Use witch hazel
Witch hazel is an astringent and draws fluid from the pimple. This can reduce inflammation and redness overnight.
Step 4. Try a special antiseptic oil
Certain types of oil contain antiseptics that help treat acne. Use a cotton ball to dab the oil on the pimple. Let stand until dry, then apply again.
- If your skin is sensitive, test it on another part of the skin first.
- Some examples of antiseptic oils are tea tree oil, oregano, spearmint, calendula, rosemary, and lavender.
Step 5. Apply honey
Honey is an effective ingredient for healing wounds overnight. Rub honey with a cotton bud on the pimple, and let it dry.
Honey is an astringent and contains an antiseptic that accelerates wound healing
Step 6. Use apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar contains antibacterial, antimicrobial, and antiseptic properties. You can apply apple cider vinegar to pimples to reduce redness, inflammation, and speed healing. Dissolve vinegar in water in a ratio of 1:4. Then, apply directly to the skin with a cotton bud.
