While you can buy car air fresheners cheaply in stores, making your own from recycled materials at home is more satisfying. In addition, you can actually choose the fragrance that you like. You can also find out the ingredients in a freshener with certainty, something you may not experience if you buy a commercial car freshener. It's also simple and fun to make. So make as much car freshener as you like and even give it to others as a gift.
Step
Step 1. Prepare the materials and tools
These materials and tools are listed in the "Things You'll Need" section below. Try to use recycled materials so that your car air freshener is really environmentally friendly.
Step 2. Design the air freshener pattern
Air freshener patterns generally include the shape of a tree, food, country or even province. However, you can create any pattern. You can even make it into special words like "Love" or "Honey."
Step 3. Cut the air freshener pattern
Step 4. Place this pattern on the fabric
Make two strips of fabric following this pattern.
Step 5. Place the fabric pattern on the cardboard
Make a piece of cardboard following this pattern.
Step 6. Glue each piece of fabric on each side of the cardboard
Let it dry.
Step 7. Slowly pour 10 or 20 drops of the essential oil of your choice on each side of the air freshener
Step 8. Let it dry
Step 9. Make a hole in the top of the air freshener
Thread a ribbon, string, or hanger through the hole. No need to tie the rope.
Step 10. Hang the air freshener on the rear view mirror of the car
Tie the hanger strap to the car's rearview mirror handle. Adjust the position of the air freshener so that it does not block your view.
Step 11. Apply essential oils to the air freshener regularly
You only need to drip or rub the essential oil again on the surface of the air freshener if the aroma starts to wear off.
Tips
- You can use perfume instead of oil.
- When cutting the second sheet of fabric, flip the pattern first so that the correct side is facing out when glued to the back of the cardboard.
- If you don't like the air freshener sitting in the rearview mirror, find another place in the car to hang it such as a handrail or coat hanger, or simply place it in a drink holder or door gap.
- Make air freshener in any form you like. If you're looking for a unique pattern, look online for clip art or even a children's coloring book for easy-to-cut shapes.
- This air freshener can also be decorated with crafts that might be in your sewing kit drawer.
