You may not be blessed with razor-sharp cheekbones, but you can fake them with makeup and contouring techniques. By choosing products that match your skin tone, you can create the appearance of high and prominent cheekbones, just like the models.
Step
Part 1 of 3: Before You Begin
Step 1. Find your cheekbones
Place your thumb on top of the ear, just above the tragus (the small bump next to the ear canal). Stick the index finger of the same hand down the nostril. Then pull your index finger toward your thumb - your cheekbones are along the line you just drew.
- The area under the cheekbones is the shadow zone, where bronzer should be applied. This is also the area that sinks in when you suck your cheek inward, pursing your lips like a “fish mouth”.
- The area for highlighter is just above the cheekbones. This area curves under the eyes and goes up towards the temples.
- The part of your cheek that rounds when you smile is called an apple.
Step 2. Determine if you have a cool, warm, or neutral skin tone
There are many quizzes you can take on beauty and make-up sites to find out what your skin tone is. It will be easier to choose the right makeup product if you know the level of your skin tone as well as the color of the layer underneath.
- The short way is to pay attention to the veins on the inside of the wrist. Make this observation in the sun. If your veins are green, it means you have a warm skin tone. If it's blue or purplish, it means you have a cool skin tone. If you can't tell if it's green or blue, you have neutral skin.
- Neutral skin tones can choose and combine colors from both sides of the spectrum (warm and cool).
- Your skin color may change in the sun, but the layer of color underneath will remain the same. For example, a tan from the sun won't change your skin tone from cool to warm.
Step 3. Choose a bronzer that is about three shades darker than your skin tone
Skin tones that tend to be warmer should choose a bronzer that has a peach undertone. As for those with cold skin tones, choose a bronzer with an earthy brown color.
- It's easier to start with a cream bronzer than a blush, as you'll have more control over how you apply it. What's more, the cream bronzer is easy to spread.
- If you're using a blush bronzer, make sure you have your own brush as well. Do not mix with highlighter brush or blush.
- Regardless of the choice of cream or blush, make sure you choose the same texture for all of your makeup products afterwards, including foundation, highlighter, blusher, and concealer. Mixing different textures will make it difficult to blend and the result will be streaky.
Step 4. Choose a highlighter that is slightly lighter than your skin tone and has a glow effect, not glitter
If you have fair skin, choose a light highlighter, such as pearl white. If you have dark skin, choose a highlighter with a golden glow.
- If you don't have a highlighter, you can improvise by using a pale, pearly white eyeshadow.
- A blush highlighter is best applied with a small brush. For liquid highlighters, you can use a sponge, but usually just your fingertips will suffice.
Step 5. Find a blush that matches your skin tone
If you are fair-skinned, choose a peach or pink blush. If you have olive skin, choose a blush that has an element of blue in the base color. And if your tan skin tends to be dark, choose a blush that's very light in color, like light pink or coral (orange mixed with pink).
If you're still not sure which blush color suits you, pinch your cheeks and see what color comes after. Find a color that matches your natural cheek tone
Part 2 of 3: Creating Cheekbones with Makeup Techniques
Step 1. Apply bronzer to the shadow zone, below and along the cheekbones
Suck in your cheek to see the hollow where you should apply the contour technique. Start from an area about an inch from the corners of the mouth. Apply bronzer in upward strokes to form a crescent moon. Dab a little bronzer first, then if you feel it's not enough, add more. When daubed, immediately smoothed so that the results will be very smooth and not noticeable.
- If you use a blush bronzer, make sure you tap the brush before using it to remove any traces of dust on the bristles. Remember, don't mix the brushes. Provide a special brush for applying bronzer.
- If you use your fingers to apply bronzer, wash your hands first.
- If your face is oval and long, apply bronzer with straight lines and minimal curves to add dimension to your face. If you really follow the shape of your cheekbones, your face will look even longer.
- If you have a round face and you want to make your face look longer, apply bronzer at a slightly sharp angle.
- To create a more dramatic look, add a little bronzer to the temples.
Step 2. Apply a light blush on the apples of the cheeks
The blush will make your cheeks look healthy and glow and don't look pale. You can also apply blush along your cheekbones, just above the bronzer. Make sure they don't mix.
Focus on using the blush on the apples of your cheeks, as this will make your cheeks look rounder and give a fresh and healthy look
Step 3. Apply highlighter over the cheekbones with your fingers or a clean brush
Swipe your brush or finger under your eyes and up towards your temples. But not too high to reach the tail of the eye. Highlighters work to balance shadows, capture light, and add more dimension to cheeks.
- Make sure you apply the highlighter in a circular motion so that the result is natural and doesn't show up on your face.
- Too much highlighter can make you look weird; the face looks like it's made of metal. So, if you're using a liquid highlighter, put a few drops on the back of your hand first, then dab with your fingertips and dab onto your face before blending.
- For a liquid highlighter like this, use transparent powder right on top to make the effect last all day.
- Sweep a small amount of highlighter from above the brow bone to the inner corner of the eye to add a luminous effect to the face.
Step 4. Pay attention to your overall look, making sure everything is even
Evening out makeup is the key to getting natural looking cheekbones. Flatten, smooth, and smooth again.
- If you've blended all kinds of makeup but still see three lines on the sides of your face, blend again more subtly. Try using a makeup sponge to spread the liquid product. For a sprinkle, use a large brush that has thick and thick bristles, then sweep your cheeks in a circular motion.
- If you want to remove certain types of makeup, form a tissue into a small ball and gently pat it on the cheek.
Part 3 of 3: Other Methods
Step 1. Train the muscles in the cheeks with yoga movements for the face
While the success of this facial exercise has yet to be confirmed - you can't change the facial bone structure without surgery - those who perform this exercise say that the cheeks can be accentuated by strengthening the muscles in the face and lifting the skin. In addition, this method can also make the cheeks look radiant because it increases the flow of blood and oxygen to the skin cells.
- An easy move is to suck in your cheek, making it look as tight as possible with your lips pursed like a fish's mouth, and then try to smile. Hold for 10 seconds, then release. Repeat until your muscles start to feel tired.
- These movements can not give instant results. So, it will take a few weeks until you see the results.
- Do not overdo the exercise, because repeated movements can make wrinkles appear deeper.
Step 2. Cut the hair in a style that accentuates the cheekbones
Tying your hair in a high ponytail so that your facial skin is pulled back will have an almost facelift-like effect. That way, it will accentuate your cheekbones.
Long layers that fall right on the cheekbones can also accentuate the cheekbones and draw people's attention towards them
Step 3. Consult a plastic surgeon about the possibility of getting a filler technique, implant, or even a bone graft and repositioning
If you want long-term results, and you have more money, plastic surgery may be the solution, as it will permanently add volume and dimension to your cheekbones.
- A filler technique or “liquid facelift” is a procedure that injects hyaluronic acid under the muscles to make the cheeks look plumper while pulling sagging skin up and back. The results can last for 6 months. The only side effect is slight bruising and swelling.
- Cheek implants are made of silicone and hollow polyethylene, usually inserted through an incision around the mouth, under general anesthesia. It took 2 weeks to completely heal post-surgery. During the healing period, the cheeks will feel more sensitive, swollen, and bruised.
- Some plastic surgeons can use a computer to scan your bone structure and create cheek implants that fit your face, then give you an idea of what your face will look like after surgery.
- Remember that plastic surgery can cause scars, permanent damage to nerves, or infections that require further surgery. And if you're not satisfied with the results, you can't go back to your pre-surgery face shape.
