Sure, you'll love showing off your cool tattoos to your friends, but you know if your great-grandmother saw your tattoo, she'd be sure to have a heart attack before you could say “this isn't permanent, really!”. To hide your tattoo from stodgy family members or to look more professional at a later job interview, you can easily cover your tattoo with makeup if you know the steps to take. Method 1 of 2: Regular Makeup
Step 1. Cleanse your skin
Before starting, it's better to clean your tattooed skin using a wet tissue or a little face wash. It is important to prepare the skin before applying makeup.
- Don't forget that the tattoo should not be covered with makeup unless it is healed and dry. Otherwise, the tattoo ink may be damaged or your tattoo may become infected.
- In general, it takes about 45 days for the tattoo to heal.
Step 2. Apply a light concealer
Use a cream or liquid concealer that covers perfectly. Choose a concealer color that is slightly lighter than your skin tone.

This is to avoid stiffness. Spray until you manage to cover the tattoo evenly, then let it sit for 60 seconds.
- If you're using a liquid or cream foundation, use a makeup sponge or makeup brush to apply the product, using the same patting method you did when applying concealer. If necessary, use your fingers to smooth the top and even out the edges.
Step 4. Apply colorless powder
Use a large powder brush to apply powder over the foundation. It produces a matte (non-reflective) finish.
Step 5. Spray with hairspray
When you're done applying makeup, spray a little hairspray. This will make the makeup last longer and prevent the makeup from smudging to clothes or furniture. Let your tattoo area dry before trying to touch it or cover it with clothing.
Step 6. Do a test run before the event
If you are planning to cover your tattoo for a special occasion like a job interview or a wedding, it is better to do a test run before the D-Day. You will have the opportunity to practice the technique and you can make sure your makeup is in the right color for your skin.

Many products on the market are specifically designed to cover tattoos. These products are very effective because of their great coverage and wide range of colors, which can even suit any skin tone. The only drawback is that it is expensive. Examples of products are:

Step 2. Apply stage makeup

- You can buy stage makeup in various colors, but you can also use white makeup to cover the tattoo, then use regular foundation on top to match your skin tone.

Step 3. Use an airbrush tan (spray skin dye)
