Step 1. Make sure your computer can run WoW

This game does not require a sophisticated system to play. However, it is highly recommended to check whether your computer's specifications can run WoW smoothly.

  • Operating system: at least Windows XP.
  • Processor: Pentium D minimum.
  • VGA (Video Graphics Array) card: A VGA card is a piece of hardware that will enhance the graphics display of your games. There is no minimum specification for a VGA card, but adjust it to the type of monitor, picture quality and price you want.
  • Memory & Storage: Minimum RAM capacity of 2GB.
  • Internet: Online games always require internet to play. The faster your internet the better. If there is no “lag”, then your internet is sufficient (lag occurs when there is a lag between command input and your game response).

Step 2. Selecting a server

Before starting the game, you are required to select realm. Realm determines how your game will play.

  • Normal: A suitable choice for novice players because the game is Player vs Environment (PvE). In this realm you can simply focus on raising your own level.
  • Player vs Player (PvP): PvP is the realm for experienced players. PvP has zones where you can fight against other players.
  • RP (Role Playing): This is the role play version of the PvE realm aka Normal.
  • RP-PVP: This is a role play version of the PvP realm. Other players are much more aggressive on this server.

Step 3. Create your character

One of the most interesting parts of the game is that you can create your own character. There are 10 races and 9 character classes for you to choose from. Each class has its own bonuses. Choose a character based on the advantages and disadvantages of each.

  • Choose a faction. The selected faction determines the races you can choose from:

    • Alliance: This faction upholds honor and virtue. The members of this faction mostly live in kingdoms renowned for their fighting skills, magic and skills.
    • Horde: This faction is a collection of outcast creatures. They fought for their rights in Azeroth. The races of this faction have a unique and somewhat sinister appearance. Most members of the Horde can adapt to various terrains.

Part 2 of 4: Orienting Your Character

Step 2. Learn to move the character

Moving characters in WoW is just like any other RPG. Use the keyboard or mouse to move your character.

  • Mouse: It is recommended to get used to playing with both hands from the start, as it will be more intuitive.

    • Hold left click: Rotate the camera without moving the character.
    • Hold right click: Rotates the camera as the character moves.
    • Scroll wheel (scroll): Zooms in and out of the camera. You can zoom in on the camera so close as if you were looking at it from a first-person perspective.
  • Keyboard (Keyboard): Most old players use the keyboard because it is more responsive.

    • WASD keys: General computer game control keys. Arrow keys can also be used.
    • Q and E keys: To move sideways.
    • Spacebar: Jump.
    • When swimming: Press SPACEBAR to swim up and X to go down.
    • “Num Lock”: Runs automatically.
    • /: Switch from running to walking and vice versa.
    • The control buttons can be changed in the 'Key Bindings' section of the menu. However, we do not recommend it.

Step 3. Familiarize yourself with the user interface

WoW's overall user interface is pretty much the same as other RPGs. Your character and pet information is displayed in the upper right corner of the screen. Mini map (mini map) in the upper right corner of the screen. The chat box in the lower left corner, and the command bar (action bar) at the bottom of the screen.

  • Character and pet information: Displays the basic status of your character, pet information, clothing inventory, and various reputations built.
  • Mini Map (Mini Map): This map will show the location of the quest giver and their completion. This map also has Time, Calendar, Mailbox and Zoom in buttons. In addition, the mini map also has the ability to do tracking. Press the “M” key to open the main map.
  • Chat Box. This box is quite flexible. You can open it and then drag it anywhere you want on the screen. The size of the text can also be changed at will. You can also create a new chat window to chat with two or more other players.
  • Command Bar (Action Bar). This is where you put your Skills and Spells. You can assign hotkeys so that the desired Skill or Spell can be quickly issued. Command bars can be added, including on the side of the screen. The "Menu" and "Option" buttons are on this bar.

World of Warcraft is more fun when played with friends. WoW is a very social game. One part of the user interface is the “Friends List” window. This window is basically your place of social interaction in the game.

  • “Friends” label: Displays a list of people you invite or accept as friends on WoW. Here you can see his name, location, status, level, class and the last time he played.
  • Label “Ignore”: Displays a list of the people you have blocked.

Step 2. Join a guild

One way to interact with other players is to join a guild. A Guild is an association of fellow players in WoW. The advantage you get is that your fellow guildmates will help you in completing difficult quests.

  • First of all, enter the guild recruitment channel in the game.
  • Look for a guild that is opening recruitment.
  • Check the background of the guild in the forums to match it to yours.
  • If you find a guild you want to join, ask someone from that guild to send you an invitation. Later, the guild leader will send you an invitation notification.

Step 1. Fight effectively

The command bar is the main tool in combat, because this is where your character's Skills and Spells will be executed. Slide Skills and Spells that will be used frequently into the slots on the command bar. Try playing against other players via PvP to test your skills.

  • To use a Skill, first left-click your target, then right-click the Skill icon you want to use.
  • Press “T” to attack automatically (auto-attack).
  • To stop auto-attack, go to interface > “Combat” > then uncheck the Auto attack box.
  • The skill used can be changed by right-clicking the skill you want to use. Or, use the shortcut keys according to the Skill slot number to be used.
  • Remember, the monsters that are attacked will fight back.
  • Beginner players will use low level weapons. However, as you level up and the skills you learn, you will also be rewarded with weapons with better levels.
  • Your character can heal by resting or eating.

Step 2. Take the quest

Completing various quests will level up your character, therefore your Skills and Abilities will also increase. When you enter WoW, you will find several “Non Playable Characters” (NPCs) that have exclamation marks above their heads. Click the NPC and accept the given quest. When clicked, the details of the quest will appear, including the rewards and experiences that will be received. The mini map on your screen will show a question mark icon. That's where the location where you receive your next reward or quest is located. Press “L” to view the record of your quest.

  • Collecting type quests: NPCs will ask you to collect some materials during your first quest. Look at the mini map to find out where you are going. If you're already at a location on the map, look for something that looks shiny. Left click to pick up the item.
  • Monster killing type quests: You are required to kill one or more monsters to complete this type of quest. When taking this quest, your bounty list is below the mini map. There is also a quest type which is a combination of the previous two types, where you are required to kill monsters to retrieve the items dropped by the monster.
  • If the exclamation mark on the map is faint, it means that your quest is located in a building.
  • After completing a quest, always return to the NPC giving the quest to receive rewards and experience. Click "Complete Quest" and the next quest will appear automatically.

Step 3. Learn how your character is brought to life

The game is easy and fun to play. You are only required to be diligent in completing quests and leveling up your character. When your character is strong enough, you can test your skills against other players.

Tips

  • Pets are very helpful in leveling up your character. Classes that can have pets are "Warlock" and "Hunter".
  • To reduce lag, try reducing the display quality of your game.
  • Learn about the history and myths of the world of Warcraft. Your game will feel more immersive and much more interesting.
  • As your level gets higher, the quests that can be taken also become more difficult. Join a guild or form a squad to complete big quests.
  • Always make preparations before going to complete a quest or enter a dangerous zone.
  • The “Quest helper” add-on can help you find the best route for completing quests.
  • You can block invites in the menu options, if you prefer to play alone.
  • The camera can be adjusted in the menu, if you are easily squeamish.
  • Activate auto looting in the menu to pick up item drops automatically.
  • The cursor can change depending on the NPC.
  • When you reach level 10, you are allowed to enter the Warsong Gulch battle area, where two teams from the Alliance and the Horde play capture the flag. However, it is recommended to wait until level 14 or 19 in order to compete with old players.

Warning

  • The names in red are aggressive monsters. Be careful not to be attacked by these monsters.
  • The dark water on the mini map indicates deep water and your character will get tired in a matter of seconds.
