Method 1 of 6: Checking RAM Usage in Windows
Step 1. Hold down Alt+Ctrl and press delete.
The Windows Task Manager menu will open.
Step 2. Click the last option on the menu, which is Task Manager
Step 3. Click the {button|Performance}} tab at the top of the Task Manager window
Step 4. Click the Memory tab in the upper left corner of the Task Manager window
On this screen, you'll be able to see your computer's RAM usage, which is represented by a graph at the top of the page or a number in the In use (Compressed) column.
Method 2 of 6: Checking Storage Media Usage in Windows
Step 1. Double click the computer icon on your desktop to open My PC
- In some versions of Windows, My PC is known as My Computer.
- If the My PC icon is not on the desktop, enter My PC in the search bar in the Start menu, then click the computer icon in the search results.
Step 2. Right-click the C drive icon:
under Devices and Drives. This icon can be found in the middle of the My Computer window.
In some versions of Windows, the icon of the drive has the word "OS" above it
Step 3. Click the Properties option at the bottom of the menu
Step 4. Click the General tab at the top of the Properties window
The General page, which contains various drive attributes including their size, will open.
Step 5. Pay attention to drive usage
The Used space section will display used storage space, while Free space will display free storage space. All storage space information in this window is measured in GB.
You may find that the available storage space on your computer is different from the storage space in the specifications when you purchased the computer. Part of the storage space on the computer is used to store the operating system. Therefore, the used storage space is not included in the count
Method 3 of 6: Checking RAM Usage on Mac
Step 1. Click the Spotlight button
It's a button with a magnifying glass icon in the upper-right corner of the screen.
Step 2. Enter Activity Monitor in the search bar
The Activity Monitor icon will appear.
Step 3. Click Activity Monitor
The Activity Monitor application will open. This app allows you to check RAM usage on Mac.
Step 4. Click the Memory tab at the top of the window
Step 5. Notice the Memory Used entry at the bottom of the page
The Memory Used description shows how much RAM your Mac has installed, while Memory Used shows how much memory your Mac is currently using.
Method 4 of 6: Checking Storage Media Usage on Mac
Step 1. Open the Apple menu by clicking the apple icon in the upper-left corner of the Mac screen
Step 2. Click the About This Mac option at the top of the menu
Step 3. Click the Storage option at the top of the About This Mac page
In the Storage tab, you will see a colored table. The table represents the use of storage space.
You can also view the status of your storage space in the top right corner of the page. There, you will see the description X GB free of Y GB. X is the free storage space on your Mac, while Y is the total available storage space
Method 5 of 6: Checking Storage Media Usage on iPhone
Step 1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone
This app with a gray cog icon is usually found on your phone's home screen.
The iPhone operating system does not allow you to see RAM usage
Step 2. Tap on the General option at the bottom of the screen
Step 3. Tap the Storage & iCloud Usage option at the bottom of the screen
Step 4. In the Storage section, tap on Manage Storage
You'll find this option at the top of the screen. After tapping Manage Storage, you'll see a list of apps sorted by storage space usage. You'll also see Used and Free captions at the top of the screen, showing the status of your iPhone's storage media.
Tap the second Manage Storage option on this page to check the iCloud Drive storage space
Method 6 of 6: Checking Storage Media and RAM Usage on Android
Step 1. Open the Settings app on your Android phone
Apps with a gray gear icon are generally in the apps list.
Step 2. Swipe the screen, then tap on the Apps option in the Device section
On some Android phones (such as the Samsung Galaxy), you must tap Device before you can tap Apps
Step 3. Swipe left in Apps view to open SD Card page
This page displays the amount of used storage space (in the left corner of the screen) and the remaining storage space (in the right corner of the screen).
Step 4. Swipe right in the SD Card view to display the Running tab
In this tab, you'll see what apps are currently running on your Android phone.
Step 5. Pay attention to the categories of apps on the screen
RAM usage in Android phones is divided into 3 categories:
- System - Memory used by the operating system.
- Apps - Memory used by running applications.
- Free - Free memory remaining.
Tips
RAM is memory used to run processes, such as applications. Meanwhile, storage media is the memory used to store files, folders, or programs on the computer
Warning
- Scan the computer with antivirus if you find any suspicious processes consuming memory.
- Be careful when killing processes. Do not kill system critical processes. Killing the wrong process can damage your computer.
