This wikiHow teaches you how to make pistons in the Minecraft game. You can do this in all versions of Minecraft, such as computers, Pocket Edition, and consoles.
Step
Step 1. Gather the materials to make the piston
Some of the materials needed include:
- 12 cobblestone blocks - Mine the gray cobblestone blocks with a wooden pickaxe or higher.
- 1 iron ore - Mine an iron block with a stone pickaxe or higher. Iron blocks are speckled orange blocks that usually sit between cobblestones.
- 2 wooden blocks - Cut two blocks of wood that are under the tree.
- Step 1. redstone - Mine a block of redstone using an iron pickaxe or higher. Redstone is a speckled red block that is usually found underground.
- 1 slime ball (optional) - If you want to make sticky pistons that can push and pull blocks, kill Slimes (monsters in this game) to get slime balls.
Step 2. Make a wooden plank
Press E, click the woodpile block, click the box in the "Crafting" section, then move the plank stack into your inventory by pressing Shift and clicking the stack.
- In Minecraft PE, tap ⋯ located in the lower right corner, tap the crafting table icon in the lower left corner, tap the " Wood Planks " icon, then tap 4 x which is on the right side of the screen twice.
- On the console edition, press box (PlayStation) or X (Xbox), then press X (PlayStation) or A (Xbox) twice.
Step 3. Exit the crafting menu
You can do this by pressing Esc on the computer, tapping X in Minecraft PE, or pressing the button circle or B on the console.
Step 4. Open the crafting table
Do this by right-clicking the crafting table (on the computer), tapping the crafting table (Minecraft PE), or pressing the left trigger button on the controller while facing the crafting table (console edition). This will bring up the crafting table window.
Step 5. Make a furnace
In the crafting table box, place the cobblestones in the top three squares, the bottom three squares, and in the left and rightmost squares. Next, click the furnace icon to the right of the box and click the equipment bar at the bottom.
- In Minecraft PE, tap the furnace icon (a block of stone that has a black hole in it), then tap 1 x.
- In the console edition, scroll down and select the crafting table icon, then scroll down, and press X or A.
Step 6. Place the furnace on the ground
Select the furnace in the equipment bar, then right-click on the ground.
- In Minecraft PE, tap the location on the ground where you want to place the furnace.
- On the console edition, face somewhere on the ground and press the left trigger button.
Step 7. Open the furnace
There are 3 boxes in the furnace window: the upper box for ore, the lower box for fuel, and the right box for crafting.
Step 8. Make one iron block
Place the iron ore block in the top box, then place the wooden plank block in the bottom box. Wait for the iron block to appear in the box on the right. When it appears, move the iron block to your inventory.
- In Minecraft PE, tap the iron ore block icon, then tap the " Fuel " box and tap the wood plank icon. Tap the bar in the "Result" box to move it to your inventory.
- If you are using a console, select the iron ore block, then press the button triangle or Y, select the wooden plank block and press the button triangle or Y, then select the iron bar and press triangle or Y.
Step 9. Exit the furnace, then open the crafting table
Now you have all the materials needed to make the piston.
Step 10. Make the pistons
Place a square of wooden planks in each of the boxes on the top of the crafting table, and place an iron ingot in the center square. Place the redstone in the box under the iron, then fill the remaining squares with cobblestones. This will produce a piston.
- In Minecraft PE, tap the piston icon (cobble block with wood on it) and press 1 x to make pistons and add them to inventory.
- On the console, press the button R1 or RB 4 times, then scroll the screen to the piston icon on the far right and press the button X or A.
- On the PE and console versions, you can also choose a sticky piston (a piston with a sticky substance on the top) if you have a slime ball.
Step 11. Make a sticky piston (sticky piston) if desired
If you already have slime balls, make sticky pistons. Open the crafting table, place the slime ball in the center square, then place the piston under the slime ball.
This can only be done on the computer edition of Minecraft
Tips
- You can power the piston by placing a redstone torch or redstone dust beside it.
-
Things that can be done with pistons include:
- Making a piston drawbridge
- Making automatic piston doors
- Pistons cannot be used to push a series of blocks that exceed 12 blocks.
- Pistons are not capable of pushing (or pulling) some types of blocks. For example, the anvil is a block that is too heavy for the piston. Some items that cannot be pushed by a piston include obsidian, bedrock, End portal, and Nether portal.
- Pistons cannot push water or lava, but can block both blocks.
- Some items will change to other objects when pressed. For example, cacti, dragon eggs, sugarcane, pumpkins, and jack-o-lanterns (carved pumpkins for Halloween) will turn into molasses when pressed. These materials can be recovered by walking on them again. The melon will turn into slices so that your character can eat it right away (you can't eat the melon whole). The cobweb will turn into rope, which you can use to make a number of things like fishing rods and bows.
