Because it is quite fragile, paper can become wrinkled if it is used frequently. Paper that contains important documents, such as school assignments, sketches, or important forms, will look less attractive if wrinkled. Don't worry, by preparing some tools you have at home, the tattered paper can be flattened again and looks like new.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Using Weights
Step 1. Flatten the paper by hand
Although they can't be completely removed, creases and creases can be smoothed out by hand. Do it gently because the paper can tear if it is too rough. Continue to flatten the paper by hand until it is as flat as possible.
Step 2. Prepare some heavy objects
Flattening the paper by hand may not completely remove creases and creases, but heavy weights can flatten the paper. Look for something heavy enough, such as a thick book, a saucepan, or even a brick. Choose an object that is larger than the paper so that the entire surface can be perfectly leveled.
You don't need to use anything very heavy. Alternatively, you can stack several small objects to increase the weight
Step 3. Place the paper under the load
Place the paper on a flat surface. Previously, make sure the paper has been flattened by hand first. After that, place the weight on the paper and make sure that the entire surface is completely covered with the load so that the wrinkles disappear. If the load does not cover the entire surface of the paper, place additional weights to cover the remaining paper. This is done so that the surface of the paper is completely crushed.
Depending on the weight you are using, cover the paper with a towel before placing the weight on it. This is done so that the paper is not dirty
Step 4. Leave the paper under the weight
The paper needs time to get flat and tidy again, so let the paper be under the weight for a while. How long the paper should be left on will depend on how much wrinkle is on the paper and the load being used. The longer the paper is left, the better the results will be. Generally, you need to wait for approximately 24 hours.
Usually, the wrinkles on the paper will not go away completely when using only weights. However, this method can remove some of the wrinkles on the paper. After that, you can try the next method
Method 2 of 3: Using Heat
Step 1. Place the paper on the ironing board
Make sure the paper lays evenly, then trim the paper by hand so it doesn't bend or bend. Lay a clean towel or cloth on the surface of the ironing board before placing the paper to prevent it from getting dirty.
- Depending on the type of paper and ink used, moisten the paper with dew of distilled water before placing it on the ironing board. Water can help soften the paper, making it easier to remove wrinkles. However, water can also cause some types of ink to smudge. Therefore, try to do a test on another paper before wetting the paper to be trimmed.
- If you don't have an ironing board, furniture with a flat surface, such as a table, kitchen table, or even a floor, can be used as an alternative. Make sure the surface is covered with a thick cotton cloth to protect it from the heat.
Step 2. Protect the paper
Paper should not be exposed to temperatures that are too hot because it can catch fire. Therefore, place a clean towel or cloth on the paper before ironing it. However, do not fold the towel or cloth too much as the temperature of the iron will be difficult to reach the paper.
Step 3. Set the iron to a low temperature
To avoid damaging the paper, choose the lowest ironing temperature setting. If the creases on the paper do not go away when ironing, gradually increase the iron's temperature slightly.
Wait for the iron to heat up before starting to iron the paper. Depending on the type of iron, wait 1-3 minutes
Step 4. Iron the paper
Iron paper like when ironing clothes. Iron the cloth-covered paper in a circular motion. Don't iron one spot for too long. Every few times, stop and lift the paper protective cloth. Check the paper to make sure the wrinkles are gone or not. If not, continue to iron the paper until you are satisfied with the result.
While paper can be ironed in the same way as clothes, it's important to remember that you're ironing paper, which is, of course, more fragile than fabric. Do it as gently as possible so that the paper does not tear, damage, or burn
Method 3 of 3: Using Steam
Step 1. Turn on the bathroom shower
You can create steam in your bathroom by turning the shower on until it's hot and then closing the door. If you want to fill the bathroom with steam, wait about 10 minutes for steam to build up.
Step 2. Place the paper on a flat surface
Once the steam is sufficient, place the paper on a flat surface so the fibers can be softened by the steam. Make sure the paper is not too close to the shower to prevent it from getting wet. Also make sure the paper is not folded or bent when placed.
Before laying the paper down, first place a clean towel on the surface you are using. The towel will absorb the moisture on the surface. By doing this, the paper will not get too wet
Step 3. Leave the paper exposed to steam
To allow the steam to remove wrinkles on the paper, allow the paper to steam for about 10 minutes. If there are a lot of wrinkles, the paper may need to be left on longer. Don't forget to check the paper from time to time to make sure it's not too damp.
Step 4. Flatten the paper by hand
Once exposed to steam, remove the paper from the shower and place it on a flat surface. While steam may work to remove some of the wrinkles on the paper, smooth the paper again by hand while it's still soft. Flatten the paper gently so that it does not tear or damage.
- Wrap your hands with a clean cloth before flattening the paper. This is done so that the paper does not get dirt or oil from your hands.
- When you have removed most of the wrinkles, the paper should be allowed to rest under a heavy object for several hours to remove any remaining creases.
Tips
- If the paper is very fragile, place several layers of cloth on top of the paper before starting to iron it.
- Whatever method you choose, you have to be patient. If you are too hasty, the paper can be damaged, making the problem even more difficult.
