Want to make a quality film script? Read this article for some powerful tips!
Step
Step 1. Gather all the tools needed
The first step you have to do is prepare a pen, pencil, paper, eraser, and sharpener.
Step 2. Think of an interesting story idea
Sit down in a place free of distractions and let your imagination run wild. Trust me, inspiration can come from anywhere, whether it's from your personal life, the lives of those around you, or even from other movies you watch. But most importantly, push yourself to think as creatively as possible in order to be able to generate new story ideas for the audience. Try your best to create quality story ideas that others can enjoy; make sure all your hard work pays off later on!
Step 3. Make a decision
Decide what kind of story you want to create; if the main theme of the story has been determined by the producer or the initiator of the film, build a coherent plot with that theme.
Step 4. Build the story plot
Try to build a script from the most basic foundation, namely raw ideas. To enrich your ideas, try reading some books whose storylines are relevant to the plot of your script. One of the most important aspects at this stage is to make sure your outline doesn't have a plot that is too complicated and/or seems incomplete (unless the plot is supportive and feels coherent with the rest of the story). Criticizing your writing – and setting up a solid foundation for your story – from the start can help you save hours or even days later, especially when you have to edit content.
Step 5. Create a rough draft
After the draft has been written, try to read it again and correct the parts that you think are not according to your taste or desire. You can even create a new draft if you want to completely revamp it.
Step 6. Gather constructive criticism and suggestions
Show your rough draft to trusted people; ask them to read the draft and give their most honest opinion. In this way, you will be helped to improve and complete the content of the manuscript.
Step 7. At least, complete half of the script
Some of these texts will serve as “sample scripts” that you can show interested parties. That way, they will have an idea of what kind of storyline you create.
Step 8. Edit the script
After completing the draft, make sure you go through the editing process a few times to make sure it's error-free. If possible, give the draft to a professional editor and have them edit it; You can even pay them if you have sufficient funds.
Step 9. Contact interested people
Once your manuscript is complete, immediately contact the people you will or would like to work with. Tell them that your manuscript is complete; after that, invite them to meet and discuss the script.
Tips
- Don't be discouraged if someone criticizes your draft; believe me, this is an unavoidable stage in the script writing process.
- Save all your drafts and develop them whenever you're ready.
- Take as much time as possible to rest and have fun.
- Keep on making rough drafts until the content of the script is exactly how you want it!
