We know you must be upset when you have an accident that makes your vehicle dent. Fortunately, dents in the rear of the car, especially around the rear wheels, can usually be repaired on their own as long as they are not too deep. You may have some questions about how to fix the part. Therefore, we will provide several ways to do it so that the dent marks on the car can be completely removed!
Step
Question 1 of 6: Can all the dents on the car be repaired?
Step 1. You can repair any dents in the car body which only spoil the appearance of the outer frame
You will most likely be able to repair small dents on the smooth surface of the body. Even if you have absolutely no experience, you can still use tools at home to repair minor damage. Areas that are slightly dented can be repaired in a few minutes, but there are also those that need to be worked on for a long time with extra effort to get them back in shape.
- You may still see some minor damage from the in-house repair process. This can affect the resale value of the car and its overall appearance.
- Dent marks that are on the edges of the body or curves of the car are more difficult to repair yourself.
Step 2. Take the vehicle to a repair shop if a dent in the body penetrates the transparent layer under the car paint
When the protective coating on the car body is damaged, it can become a rusty and corroded area. Check for dents to make sure the protective film is not damaged and look for rips in the body. If this happens, contact the nearest repair shop to repair the car.
You should take your car to a repair shop if you're not sure you can fix the damage yourself
Question 2 of 6: How to use the dent removal tool?
Step 1. Glue the suction cup of the tool to the center of the dented area
Most dent removal kits include a hot glue gun, suction cups, and bars for making repairs. Heat the glue gun and apply the glue to the bottom of the suction cup. After that, press the bottom of the cup against the center of the dented area. Allow the glue to dry for at least 10 to 30 seconds for it to stick firmly.
- You can purchase a dent-removal kit online or at your local auto supply store. This tool is usually sold at a price of Rp. 300,000 to Rp. 500,000.
- If your kit doesn't include a hot glue gun, you may not need to apply glue to the suction cup. Simply push the cup firmly towards the center of the dent so that it attaches to the car body.
Step 2. Attach the bar to the suction cup
Insert the suction cup into the hole in the center of the bar. Rotate the bar so that the 2 legs on either side are flat against the flat surface of the rear body. Press both feet firmly against the car body so that they stick. After that, attach the knob to the end of the suction cup so that the bar doesn't fall off.
If you don't place the toe bar on a flat surface, it can slide around so that the dent in the car body can't be removed
Step 3. Turn the suction cup knob clockwise to fix the dent
Simply turn the knob half a turn at a time to prevent further damage to the vehicle. When turning the knob, the foot of the bar will press against the vehicle body and the suction cup will "pull" the dented part. Keep turning the knob until you see or hear the dented body part snaps back into place. After the dent has been removed, the tool used can be easily removed from the car body.
- If there is glue residue on the back body, heat the stain with a hairdryer or heating gun until it softens. After that, you can wipe or peel off the glue stains from the car body.
- Sometimes, a dent removal tool only repairs some of the dent marks on the car body. If there is still visible damage, reset the suction cup to the deepest part of the dent and repeat the process.
Question 3 of 6: How to remove dents on a car with a drain cleaner?
Step 1. Press the plunger into the center of the dented area, then pull
Start by wetting the car body with water so that the end of the vacuum cleaner can stick firmly. Press the vacuum cleaner into the center of the dented area, but don't press too hard to avoid further damage. Pull the tool firmly until it releases to flatten the dented part.
- You may need to repeat this process several times.
- Use a regular suction device that is used to smooth the drainage channel because the vacuum cleaner for the toilet does not produce a strong enough suction power.
Question 4 of 6: Can hot water flatten the dented area?
Step 1. Hot water can repair dents in uneven areas of the body
Bring the water to a boil, then place it near the vehicle. Sprinkle water little by little on the dented area so that the car body heats up and turns slightly soft. After that, spray the dented area with compressed air to let it cool down quickly. If you are lucky, the dent in the body will immediately disappear and its shape will return to its original shape.
- You may need several pots of hot water to heat the car body and remove any dents.
- In addition to using hot water, you can also try using a hairdryer or heating gun.
- If the dent doesn't go away after spraying compressed air, find a way to access the area behind the dent. After heating the car body, use your hands to push the dented part from the inside.
Question 5 of 6: How to use a hammer to remove dents?
Step 1. Tap the dent from the inside so you don't damage the paint
Since you have to access the area behind the dent, you may need to remove the taillights or car wheels to reach the area. Place a dolly, which is a curved metal retainer, on the outside so that its shape follows the curve of the car body. Gently tap the inside of the body with a soft rubber mallet or round-headed hammer until the dent is flush with the dolly being used.
Be careful not to knock too hard as you could damage the car body or make it loose
Question 6 of 6: How much does it cost to repair a dented car body?
Step 1. A dented area the size of a golf ball usually costs around IDR 1,500,000 or more
The total cost depends on the location of the dent, sharpness, and ease of access. Fortunately, the damage generally only takes an hour to repair. Ask a car technician for an estimate of the repair cost when bringing a damaged vehicle to a repair shop. He or she can usually provide an estimate of the repair cost when seeing the damage in person.
- If you find more than one dented part, ask the repair shop for a discount so you don't have to pay in full for each damaged area.
- You may be able to find a "magic knock service" in the area near your house and use it if there is no damage to the body paint. These service providers are usually willing to come to your house so you don't have to take your car to a repair shop.
Step 2. A dented or dented area larger than the hand costs more than IDR 2,500,000
Large dents require extra work and the repair shop may need to remove some parts of the car for repairs. Repair prices also depend on the model of the vehicle and the condition of the paint. When you take the car to a repair shop, show the technician the damaged area and ask the technician for an opinion.
- Large dents only take 2 to 4 hours to repair.
- For more severe damage, you may need to repaint the rear body or replace the entire body.
- Sometimes, a large dented area can affect the structural strength of your vehicle. This can cost more.
