On your birthday, of course, you are happy to get attention from friends, but what is the right way to respond? On an individual basis, you can simply say "Thank you!", but if the greeting is via social media or even a paper letter, the etiquette may be slightly different, thankfully it's not that hard to learn.
Step
Method 1 of 3: On Social Media
Step 1. Upload a thank you note
If you use social media often, you may get congratulations from acquaintances, old friends, and even those you don't remember. Your friends may also not be waiting for a personal response from you. So a single thank you message to everyone on social media walls is common, and a response like this rarely offends anyone. The following are some examples of speech responses:
- Thanks for sending happy birthday wishes, everyone! I am so glad!
- One person. One birthday. So many congratulations.:)
- IT'S MY BIRTHDAY, SO I CAN WRITE IN CAPITAL LETTERS. Thanks for all the good prayers!
- Read the examples section for more responses.
Step 2. Upload a photo (optional)
If you want to thank your friends in a clearer way, take a photo of your smiling face and wearing a party hat, with a birthday cake, or some other birthday symbol. Upload this photo with a comment saying thank you for everyone's birthday wishes. A response like this shows that you're trying harder to say thank you in a special way, which is also quite easy to make.
Step 3. Send a reply for a very meaningful greeting
If someone sends you a long and meaningful birthday wish, send them a reply in person. Submit a response that is at least 3 sentences long. You can reply by commenting directly on the message sent, or via private message, no need to respond by posting a message on his wall.
- Older relatives, people who are less tech-savvy, and those who don't use social media are likely to expect a personal response.
- You can take this opportunity to reconnect with friends you haven't seen in a long time, even if they just texted you on your birthday.
Step 4. Give a short response to another greeting (optional)
As explained above, you don't have to respond to everyone individually. However, if you want, you can hit the Like button on any Facebook greeting, or reply to congratulations on other social media with a short comment like "Thanks for the greeting!", or "Thank you, I'm so happy!"
Method 2 of 3: Directly
Step 1. Say thank you in person
If possible, thank someone after they give you a birthday present, or go the extra mile to wish you a happy birthday. Give your friends or family your full attention and a smile, and look them in the eye when you say thank you. Here are some ways to do it:
- Your greeting card means a lot to me. I'm very happy to receive it.
-
Your birthday present is perfect! You really know me.
- See the examples section below for more options.
Step 2. Send a card or letter
Relatives and friends who are older than you are more likely to receive a thank you card. Always include a handwritten greeting. It's fine to send a short thank you note, but you should send a more meaningful message to those who have been so kind to you.

Step 3. Send a specific thank you note
Make your friends feel special for their role in your birthday celebrations and in your life. Mention the gift or card he specially sent you. Tell them how you will use it, or that you will "wear it for a long time."
Step 4. Say what your friend wants to hear
Never criticize a gift he sends you, remind him of something embarrassing, or do anything that upsets him. If you don't like the gift, try to find something you like about the gift, or thank him for taking the time to choose (or make) the gift.
Method 3 of 3: Sample Response
Step 1. Give praise
Let everyone wishing you a happy birthday know how nice they are, and how much they mean to you. You can give a more specific compliment according to what your friend says, or use the following example:
- Thank you, you are so kind!
-
Thank you, you have become a significant part of my life.
- I am very lucky to have friends like you.
-
Thank you for being a very good friend to me this year.
Step 2. Tell everyone how much their words mean
Tell your friends how much you appreciate their positive influence in your life. Here are some examples:
- Your words make me smile all day long.
-
I'm so glad to hear from you. You have made my birthday very special.
Step 3. Upload something unique
When posting thank-you notes to everyone on social media, you may want to make it a little more interesting. Try one of these ideas:
- Say funny things like " I am very happy that many of my friends wished me a happy birthday. You all deserve 1/207 of my birthday cake."
- Say "Thank you!" in various languages. Try using Thank you!, Greetings!, Foole Tunks!, or search the internet for a saying you like.
- Link your thank you note with a video. There are lots of thank you videos on the internet, or you can search for clips or videos of your favorite band, or cute animals that look happy.
Step 4. Thank you sincerely and seriously
Sometimes, being able to sincerely express gratitude and appreciation to others for their year-long support and kindness can make you happy. To give a more meaningful speech, take the following examples and use them in happy events in your life:
- I feel grateful every day, but most grateful my friends send support and smiles. Thank you all for reminding me of such a precious thing on my birthday."'
-
This year has been a tough one for me, but the support of friends and family has made me strong. A big thank you to everyone who has helped me get up and face the year ahead with a smile instead of a sad one.
