This wikiHow teaches you how to print out a portion of the map area and directions that appear on Google Maps. You can do this on both Windows and Mac computers. Keep in mind that you will need to zoom in on the map closer in order to see each street. This means, there will not be many areas of the map that can fit on one page.

Method 1 of 2: Printing a Map
Step 1. Open the Google Maps website
Visit https://www.google.com/maps/. After that, the Google Maps website will open in the browser.
Step 2. Enter the desired address
Click the search bar in the upper-left corner of the Google Maps page, then type in the address of the place where you want the map to be printed.
You can also type in the name of the city and county (or state), as well as the name of the public institution (eg university or school)
Step 3. Select the appropriate location
Click the address shown below the search bar to go to that location.
Step 4. Resize the map by zooming in or out
Click the icon + ” in the lower right corner of the page to enlarge the map view, or click “ - ” to zoom out. You can only print the map area that is displayed on the screen.
- The more often you zoom in on the map, the more detailed the map view you will get.
- You can click and drag the map to change its position in the frame.
Step 5. Open the document printing menu
The steps to follow may differ depending on the browser you are using:
- Chrome - Click the button " ⋮ ” in the upper-right corner of the Chrome window, then click “ Print… ” that appears in the drop-down menu.
- Firefox - Click the button " ☰ ” in the upper right corner of the Firefox window, then click “ Print ” in the displayed drop-down menu.
- Microsoft Edge - Click the button " ⋯ ” in the upper-right corner of the browser window, then click “ Print ” in the drop-down menu.
- Internet Explorer - Click the button " ⚙️ ” in the upper right corner of the browser window, click the option “ Print ” displayed at the top of the drop-down menu, and click “ Print… ” when the option appears on the left side of the drop-down menu.
- Safari - Click " File ” on the menu bar of your Mac computer, then click “ Print… ” at the bottom of the drop-down menu.
Step 6. Select the printer you want to use
Click the currently active printer or, if not, click the " Printer " column. After that, select a printer that is already connected to the network.
- The printer menu differs on different browsers and on different computers.
- If you are using an older printer, you will need to connect the device to a computer before documents or maps can be printed. You can also save maps on your computer in PDF format by selecting Print to PDF or Save as PDF.
- You may need to click on the option “ Change " or " Browse ” which is under the selected printer.
Step 7. Change the printing settings if necessary
Every printer has slightly different settings, and every browser has different printing options. Aspects that you may want to change include:
- “ Color ” – You can print the map in black and white to save ink, or in color for the clearest detail.
- “ Number of copies ” – You can specify the number of copies of the map required.
- “ Layout " or " Orientation " - Choose " Landscape ” for a larger map view.
Step 8. Click Print
This button may be at the top of the printing window (“Print”) or at the bottom, depending on the browser you are using. After that, the map will be sent to the machine and start printing.
- If you choose to save the map in PDF format instead of printing it, after pressing the Print button, the map in PDF format will be downloaded to your computer.
- In Google Chrome, you can choose Save.
Method 2 of 2: Printing Directions
Step 1. Open the Google Maps website
Visit https://www.google.com/maps/. After that, the Google Maps website will open in the browser.
Step 2. Click the “Directions” icon
This icon resembles a curved arrow on a blue background. You can find it at the far right of the Google Maps search bar, in the upper-left corner of the browser window. After that, a pop-out window will be displayed.
Step 3. Enter the address or starting point
Type the address or starting point of the trip into the text field at the top of the “Directions” window.
You can also click on a location on the map to set it as a starting point
Step 4. Enter the destination address
Type the destination address into the " Choose destination… " field, which is below the starting point field for the trip.
Step 5. Press Enter key
After that, the two addresses entered will be confirmed and Google will find the fastest route from the starting point to the destination point.
Step 6. Select the desired route
Click the route you want to take in the left side window of your browser.
Step 7. Click the printer icon
This icon is on the right side of the “Directions” window, just above the selected route. Once clicked, a pop-up window with printing options will be displayed.
Step 8. Specify printing options
You can choose Print including maps ” (print directions and map) or “ Print text only ” (print directions in text only). The included map can provide an overview to support directions, although the printing process consumes more ink than printing text directions.
Step 9. Click Print
It's in the upper-right corner of the window. After that, the browser's printing window (“Print”) will be displayed.
Step 10. Select the printer you want to use
Click the currently active printer or, if not, click the " Printer " column. After that, select a printer that is already connected to the network.
