A Peter Pan hat is the perfect accessory for Halloween costumes, school plays, or if you're a Peter Pan fan. Making this hat is quite simple, with materials such as felt and paper.

Method 1 of 2: Making a Peter Pan Hat out of Felt
Step 1. Gather the necessary materials
The process will be easier if all the materials have been collected beforehand.
- The fabric needed to make a Peter Pan topic is approximately 0.45 meters. Or, you can use two pieces of green felt, measuring 30.5 cm x 46 cm.
- Fabric scissors (any type of scissors can be used, but fabric scissors work best).
- Sewing machine, or green needle and thread.
- One big red feather.
Step 2. Measure the fabric
The area of the fabric that will be used here is for a medium-sized head. If you want to make a hat that fits a custom sized head, calculate the head circumference from front to back and use that measurement to make the hat.
If you are using 0.45 meters of fabric, cut the fabric into a 61 cm x 46 cm square
Step 3. Fold the 61 cm x 46 cm fabric in half
Fold the fabric so that you have two 30.5 cm x 46 cm stacked fabrics.
- Draw the shape of a Peter Pan hat. You can draw the shape of the hat by hand for a natural look, or print out a ready-made pattern.
- The Peter Pan hat is similar to the Scalene triangle, meaning the angles are asymmetrical and balanced with each other.
- Or, you can print this hat pattern and place it on the fabric and then trace.
Step 4. Cut the fabric
Now it's time to shape your Peter Pan hat.
- If you have a stencil, place it along the folded edge of your fabric.
- Cut along the pattern you made on the fabric.
Step 5. Sew the outer edges of the hat together
Now that you have two hats, it's time to start sewing.
- Allow about 1 cm to 0.3 cm of additional space before starting to sew.
- You can use a sewing machine for faster and neater results. or by hand, especially if you want the hat to look more unique.
- Make sure not to sew the bottom of the hat where the head goes.
- The shape should resemble a triangle so leave the flat bottom exposed
Step 6. Pinch the corners and curves of your hat
Your hat is currently upside down. Then pinch the corners and curves so that the hat looks neater and looks good.
When you're done, trim off any excess fabric that is outside the seam. Then turn the hat over with the right side out
Step 7. Flip the bottom cover over
There should be some extra fabric at the base of the hat where the head goes. Flip it over and press it down with your fingers, or iron it on a light heat to flatten it out.
Be careful when using the iron because there is a risk of burning
Step 8. Cut a small slit on the side of the hat
Now it's time to make a small slit for the fur! Just take a pair of scissors and make a small slit in the hat.
Put on your hat and voila! Time to go to Neverland
Method 2 of 2: Making a Peter Pan Hat out of Paper
Step 1. Gather the materials
The ingredients needed are quite simple. You can use any paper, but green constructive paper works best.
- Green constructive paper covering an area of 61 cm x 46 cm.
- Pencil.
- Scissors.
- Glue.
- Red fur.
- Ruler.
Step 2. Fold the paper
Take the paper and fold it into a 23 cm x 30 cm rectangle.
Fold the paper so that the 23 cm side is divided in half by the fold
Step 3. Draw the hat pattern using a stencil, or just draw it by hand
This process is the same as the method above.
Step 4. Cut along the pattern
The paper is cut according to the shape of the pattern.
- Start at one corner on the reverse of the crease and cut along the pattern.
- Now you have a triangular shape with a flat bottom and a creaseless edge for the head to enter.
Step 5. Fold the flat side
Take the base of the hat and fold it up to create a Peter Pan brim.
- Press along the crease with your fingers for a neat finish.
- To make pleats that are the same height, turn the hat over on the first fold and fold the second flap over to even out.
Step 6. Overlap and connect the edges
Connect the edges from the base of the hat, where the brim is, all the way to the end.
- A little crease on the edges will make the hat look more natural.
- If the hat is going to be glued, do it along the edges. All types of glue can be used. Safe rubber cement is the best choice, because using a brush will make the process easier.
- Or, just a stapler to hold the open ends together.
- If desired, sew the edges as in the first method for trimming your hat.
Step 7. Cut a small slit for the feathers
Make a small cut on the side of the hat for the fur to tuck in.
Or, put the feathers in the topcoat and glue it to the hat
Tips
- Sewing by hand is actually quite easy. Otherwise, use other adhesive tools.
- The glue used must be safe in contact with skin or hair. Make sure the glue is dry before wearing the hat.
