Method 1 of 1: Taking Head Measurements for Hats
Step 1. Measure around the head
Start by measuring the line from your forehead to the hairline. Wrap the tape measure around your head, under the bulge at the back of your head and back to the front to meet the tape again. This size is your correct head size.
The average head size is usually from 21" (53cm) to 23" (58cm) at half size
Step 2. Measure your head from back to front
Decide where you will wear your hat, either behind or in front of your head. Mark this point and start the tape measure. Loop the measuring tape over your head and over the bumps on the back of your head.
This is a size from back to front and is typically 9 1/2" (24cm) to 10 1/2" (26.5cm)
Step 3. Measure your head from side to side
Start the tape measure from the side of the hat you will wear to the same point on any size of your head near the ear.
This is a side-to-side size and is typically 10" (25.5cm) to 10 1/2" (26.5cm)
Step 4. Done
Tips
- A non-head sized hat is sufficient for any size head. Head sizes usually range from 18" (46cm) to 21" (53cm) depending on style trends.
- Make room for growth for young people.
