A locked door gives your mind a sense of security and peace, but it can also be distracting when the lock doesn't work properly, or if you accidentally leave the door locked without the key. Remember, before you start fiddling with the door lock and breaking into door, you have to be absolutely sure that you have no other choice. Also, be aware that many of these methods take a lot of time to learn.
Step
Method 1 of 6: Using Knock Lock
Step 1. Use "knock lock"
Keyhole knocking using a knock key is a quick and simple unlocking technique, which is useful when you need to open a door that has been closed for a long time (for example, on an unused house on your family property), or if you need to get in. to an elderly relative's house to make sure they are okay.
Knocking the keyhole takes practice. If the door lock system in your home is of low quality or cheap, this method can damage the door lock, then don't use it without good reason
Step 2. Use the knock lock
A knock lock is a key that will fit into the keyhole, but cannot open it directly like a duplicate key. As long as the key fits in the keyhole, it can function as a knocker by filling every gap at the lowest accessible depth.
Most reputable locksmiths don't do “fake locks”, but you can sometimes find them online. To make your own “fake lock”, you'll need some ironworking tools and patience
Step 3. Fit the knock key into the keyhole all the way to the last pin
The pins and keyhole "houses" are made of round protrusions that rotate until they are completely lined up and no longer impede their movement. Any gentle “click” you feel when you push the key into the keyhole is a pin that is lifted by the teeth of the key and then falls into the piece below. Push the knock lock until only one pin remains and has not been lifted.
Step 4. Hit and turn the knock lock
Use a small rubber mallet or similar object to hit the key hard and turn it immediately afterward. Since the pins inside the lock's "house" are made up of two parts, this slamming motion transfers pressure to the bottom (which is located inside the lock's "house"), which in turn transfers it to the top (so the lock's "house" doesn't move). When all the top pins have been lifted in this way, the lock will be able to be turned.
You have to try several times to get the momentum right. Keep trying until it works
Method 2 of 6: Using a Key Breaking Tool
Step 1. Disassemble the lock with a key breaker
This is a specialized skill that requires a lot of practice and is usually only taught to talented caretakers. Sales of lock-unlocking tools are also limited to people who are specifically trusted, but with a little creativity, you can actually make tools similar to these.
Step 2. Make your own lock-breaking tool
To disassemble a key that has become brittle, you can use just a pair of paper clips. However, sturdier locks may require tongs, wire clippers and a pair of pliers. Importantly, use a tool made of metal that is quite hard as a pick and a tension wrench.
- Steel springs are the best material to use because they do not crack easily and can be made using a file. You can make it from a hacksaw blade. Consider the thickness of the blade, as this will limit the size of the lock that your ripping tool can fit later.
- The tension wrench is made in the shape of the letter “L”, and is used to apply pressure to the bottom of the keyhole. You can make this by using an L key and filing it flat.
- Picks are made with shorter legs, such as a lowercase "r". This tool is used to press the pins inside the "house" of the lock, so that the lock can be turned.
Step 3. Insert the tension wrench
Press into the base of the wrench and apply constant pressure to the tension wrench as you use the pick. Otherwise, it will take more time and may need to redo the whole process from scratch.
If you are not sure which direction the tension wrench should turn, insert the tension wrench into the keyhole and turn it in either direction. Quickly pull the pick while listening for the sound of movement in the keyhole. If you turn it in the right direction, you will hear a pin drop
Step 4. Insert the pick above the tension wrench
Use the lower end of the pick to locate and push the pin up until it exits the "house" of the lock. If all pins have been moved successfully, the lock will open. As said above, this ability takes a lot of practice to master, so buy some inexpensive keyhole kits to practice on if you want to master this skill.
Method 3 of 6: Using “L” Lock on Interior Doors
Step 1. Open the interior door using the L key
Most interior doors made in modern times use a special type of door handle, so that the door can be opened again if accidentally locked. If your interior door has a handle with a small round hole in the center, this is the type in question.
Step 2. Find and buy a set of L keys
L keys are usually available for less than a cup of well-known brand of coffee and can be found at most hardware stores. They are small, like the letter L, and are made of metal and are sold in packages containing a set of L keys of different widths marked with the metric system and imperial system (which is commonly used in the US).
Step 3. Fit the long end into the hole on the doorknob
You can try on one or two different sizes to find the right size, but usually you can find it right away. You need the right size, without scraping or thickening those L keys. If you insert it in a straight line while slightly moving it back and forth, you'll feel like it's touching something.
Step 4. Turn the L key to open the door
When the key fits into the hole in the doorknob, turn it slightly to open the door. Just do it slowly, you don't need to use too much force.
Method 4 of 6: Opening the Door Using a Credit Card
Step 1. Open the door which has a simple lock system using a credit card
This simple trick is less and less effective on modern doors, but it's still useful when you want to enter a house with an old-fashioned door when you forget to bring the key.
Laminated cards usually work better. You need a card that is flexible enough (for example, a shopping card) that you don't need anymore. Be aware that sometimes this card can be damaged due to the process of opening the door, so that it can no longer function
Step 2. Slide the credit card in the gap between the door and the frame
Slide the long side of the credit card between the door frame and the part that locks the door, just above where the key enters the frame.
Point the card down and position it behind the lock slot. You must make sure that the position of the card is now perpendicular to the door
Step 3. Slowly but surely, pull the card towards you while turning the doorknob
If you're lucky, the credit card will slide in the gap between the bevelled side of the lock latch and the hole in the door frame, allowing you to push the latch out of the jamb by pulling the card toward you. To keep the door open, place the card in the gap between the latch and the keyhole.
Of course this trick will not work if the door is locked from the inside using a latch. The latch has no beveled sides. Fortunately, the latch is impossible to install from the outside without a key
Method 5 of 6: Disassembling the Car Door
Step 1. Although "slim jims" are illegal, you can make your own using metal clothes hangers
If you leave the car door locked and the keys are in the car but a shop or a friend's house that has hangers is close by, you don't have to panic and wait for a locksmith or emergency services to arrive.
Step 2. Untwist the twist and and straighten the hanger
You can leave the top curved, but untie the twist at the neck and straighten the rest so you get a long metal tool with curved ends.
Step 3. Lift the rubber trim on the vehicle body or door which serves to withstand vibration, sound, air, water and also as a holder for the front and rear windshield from the bottom of the driver's side
Push the end of the hanger through the soft rubber trim and the bottom of the window. The coat hanger is now inside the car door wall.
Step 4. Swipe the hanger around the area and look for the latch
The latch should be a few inches below the window, close to the interior lock button.
Step 5. Hook the hanger on the latch and pull
Hook the hanger around the latch and pull it to the back of the car. This will unlock the doors of all manually locked cars.
If this car door has an electric lock system, you can also swipe the end of the coat hanger straight down, to the top of the window, and use it to press the alarm button inside the car's interior
Method 6 of 6: Using Violence
Step 1. Break the door
In a pinch, sometimes your only option is to break down the door with physical force. Be aware that this will damage the door frame, door lock, and sometimes the door itself. This technique is also physically dangerous to yourself, so use it only as a last resort.
- Stand in a firm position. Stand facing the door with your feet shoulder-width apart and knees slightly bent. If you can, hold your hand or arm against a wall, furniture, or any object that doesn't move when you push it.
- Lift your dominant leg up to the knee. Lift your knee straight and let the other leg pull with it. Keep your feet facing the door, don't face sideways or do other unnecessary things.
- Kick the door with the bottom of your foot. This type of kick is called a "flash kick" ("snap kick"). Snap your foot straight ahead, so that the sole of your foot kicks where the keyhole is.
- Kicking the door is safer because your feet are designed to absorb a lot of force and your shoes can serve as additional protection. DO NOT knock on the door with your shoulder, as your joints could be dislocated by it.
- Keep kicking until the lock breaks the door frame. If you do this regularly, this method will work on almost any type of door made of wood.
- If within a few minutes you don't see any change, this could mean that the door or frame has been fitted with a reinforcing frame. Take a break and work your way up in stages to keep your kicks from weakening.
Step 2. Hit the hard door with a wall bat
If for some reason you prefer to use a wall bat rather than calling a locksmith, an effective wall bat can be made using the pegs commonly used to drive posts into the ground.
- Buy your own stake. They are usually several tens of centimeters long, with long handles on each side.
- Fill the tool with cement, completely or partially. Make sure that the cement has dried before use.
- Do a side throw to hit the bat against the door where the lock system hole is. Swing the bat in front of you with both hands as you stand parallel to the door. Most doors will break with just a few hits.
- Keep in mind that the door will be completely damaged and will require repair.
Tips
- Contact a professional locksmith if possible. There's no better way than calling a locksmith (or homeowner with a spare key) to open the door if you're locked outside. The best and safest way to open a locked door is to ask someone who is professional and trained to open it.
- Always start with the safest method you can use. If you can unlock with a credit card, you don't have to break down the door or use your wall bat.
- Practice. If you're planning to break down a door, or open it with a tension wrench and pick, you'll need practice to develop your skills. There is no better teacher than experience.
Warning
- Never try to break down a door with your shoulder. That method will only work in the movies.
- Don't try to shoot the keyhole. Doing so can create dangerous reflections. You can also cause the lock to become stuck and beyond repair because of it.
- Damaging what doesn't belong to you is illegal and illegal. Don't do it.
- In some locations, it is illegal to carry an unlocking tool without proof that you are a locksmith. The tool referred to here may mean a tool made by yourself, especially if the mood of the policeman who arrested you is in a bad mood. Don't use these tools unless you really need them.
- If you're locked out of a rental property, call the keeper, manager, or owner before you try to get in. Who knows, one of them has a spare key that can be used. After all, breaking into a rental property can be considered illegal, especially if it causes damage.
