iPad Mini will lock automatically when you forget your password so you can keep your device safe. The only way to unlock an iPad Mini when you forget it is to recover it using iTunes.

Method 1 of 2: Recover iPad Mini Password
Step 1. Connect iPad Mini to your computer using a USB cable
The iTunes app will run automatically when it recognizes your device.
Step 2. Click the iPad Mini icon that appears in the left sidebar or above iTunes
Step 3. Click “Help,” then “Check for updates
” iTunes will verify if there is the latest software for iPad Mini.
If using iTunes on a Mac, click “iTunes,” then “Check for updates.”
Step 4. Click “Summary”, then click “Restore iPad
”
Step 5. Wait for the password recovery process to complete
A welcome message “Slide to set up” will appear on the screen after the recovery process is complete.
Step 6. Disconnect iPad Mini from your computer
Your iPad Mini is now restored and unlocked.
Method 2 of 2: Troubleshooting
Step 1. Restore iPad Mini with the following steps if a message appears on your device that recovery can't be done
Your iPad cannot be recovered if you enter an incorrect password six times at a time.
Step 2. Revert to the original settings (hard reset) if by restoring your device your password still cannot be reset
This method can erase all content in the device and reset your password.
- Unplug all cables attached to your iPad Mini.
- Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button, then touch "slide to power off" to turn off your device.
- Press and hold the Home button, connect the iPad Mini to your computer using a USB cable.
- Wait for the iPad to turn on automatically while you keep pressing and holding the Home button. If it doesn't turn on, press the power button while still holding down the Home button.
- Keep the Home button pressed until the "Connect to iTunes" logo appears on the screen.
- Connect iPad Mini to your computer using a USB cable. The iTunes app will open automatically.
- Click “OK” when iTunes notifies you that a device was detected in recovery mode, then click “Restore.”
Tips
Once you've finished restoring your device, consider using the “Back Up Now” option on the “Summary” tab in iTunes. This way you can recover your device and personal information if you ever forget the password again
