This wikiHow teaches you how to change the Google Chrome icon on a PC or Mac computer. The Windows and Mac operating systems allow you to change application icons, whether you want to use the old three-dimensional Google Chrome icon or want to modify it with your own logo.
Step
Method 1 of 2: On Windows 10
Step 1. Click the Windows “Start” menu
This menu is indicated by the Windows logo on the taskbar. By default, it's in the lower-left corner of the screen.
Step 2. Type in Chrome
The Google Chrome browser will be searched for and displayed at the top of the Windows “Start” menu. After that, download the old three-dimensional Google Chrome icon by typing “Old Google Chrome icon” in the Google image search service.
Step 3. Right click Google Chrome
The browser is marked by a red, yellow, and green wheel icon with a blue dot in the middle.
Step 4. Click Open File Location
The folder containing the Google Chrome app will be opened.
If the options are not displayed when you right-click the Google Chrome icon, click “ More ” to see more options in the menu.
Step 5. Right-click Google Chrome
When the folder containing the Google Chrome program opens, right-click the Google Chrome application on the folder. Another menu will be opened after that.
Step 6. Click Properties
It's at the bottom of the menu that appears after right-clicking the Google Chrome app.
Step 7. Click the Shortcut tab
This tab is at the top of the “Properties” window.
Step 8. Click Change icon
It's at the bottom of the “Properties” window in the “Shortcut” section.
Step 9. Select the icon or click Browse
Click an icon in the list to select it. If you want to choose your own icon, click “ Browse After that, go to the icon storage directory, click the icon file, and click “ Open ”.
If you want to use your own images, they must be in the ".ico" format. If the image doesn't have “.ico” format, you can use this website to convert it
Step 10. Click Ok
It's at the bottom of the “Change icon” window. The selection will be confirmed afterwards.
Step 11. Click Apply
Changes made will take effect. A new icon will appear in the “Start” menu and taskbar.
- If the new icon doesn't appear on the taskbar immediately, exit Google Chrome and restart the browser.
- If the Google Chrome desktop icon doesn't change immediately, right-click the icon and select “ Delete " After that, search for Google Chrome in the “Start” menu and drag its icon to the desktop to create a new desktop shortcut.
Step 12. Click Ok
The “Properties” window will close after that.
Method 2 of 2: On Mac OS
Step 1. Open the image you want to use as an icon in Preview
This program is the main image-viewing application on Mac computers. Make sure you have saved the image you want to use as the Google Chrome icon on your computer. Double-click the image to open it in Preview, or follow these steps:
- Go to the image storage directory and click the image file.
- Click the menu " File ” in the menu bar at the top of the screen.
- Click " Open with… ”.
- Click " Preview.app ”.
Step 2. Click Edit
After the image is opened in Preview, click Edit ” in the menu bar at the top of the screen. The “Edit” drop-down menu will appear after that.
Step 3. Click Select all
The entire image will be selected. You can see the dotted line around the image.
Alternatively, click and drag the cursor to select a specific part of the image. Make sure the selection area that you want to use as an icon is square
Step 4. Click Edit again
Go to the “Edit” menu once again.
Step 5. Click Copy
The selected portion of the image will be copied.
It is important that you copy the image data in Preview, and not from its directory
Step 6. Open Finder
This app is marked by a blue and white smiley face icon.
Step 7. Click Applications
It's in the Finder side menu. All applications installed on the computer will be displayed.
Step 8. Click on Google Chrome to select it
You don't need to open the app. Just one click to select an application.
Step 9. Click File
It's in the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Step 10. Click Get Info
This option is in the middle of the “File” menu. An information window will appear.
Alternatively, right-click Google Chrome on the “Applications” folder, then click “ Get Info ”.
Step 11. Click the Google Chrome icon
It's a small icon in the upper-right corner of the Google Chrome information window. After that, the icon will be selected and marked.
This icon is different from the large icon shown under "Preview"
Step 12. Click Edit
It's in the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Step 13. Click Paste
Image data previously copied from Preview will be copied to the icon location. After that, the icon will immediately change on the “Info” panel.
If you don't see the new icon in the Dock, close and reopen Google Chrome
Tips
- If you use Outlook.com or Hotmail as your web mail program, you can paste the People web application into your welcome page. This application has a more complete feature than the Windows 8 default People application.
