This wikiHow teaches you how to create a lock password for the Google Chrome browser on a Windows or Mac computer. When locked, Google Chrome requires a Google account password in order to use your account. Keep in mind that you can't lock the mobile version of Google Chrome using the steps in this article.
Step
Step 1. Open Google Chrome
The Chrome icon looks like a red, yellow, green, and blue ball.
Step 2. Click the name tab
It's a small tab in the upper-right corner of the browser window.
Step 3. Click Manage people
This option is at the bottom of the drop-down menu. A new window will open.
Step 4. Click ADD PERSON
It's in the lower-right corner of the window.
Step 5. Enter a name
Type the new account name into the text field at the top of the window.
Step 6. Enable account supervision
Click the checkbox to the left of the "Supervise this person to control and view the websites they visit from your Google Account" option, at the bottom of the window.
You can uncheck the "Create a desktop shortcut for this user" box
Step 7. Click the "Select an account" drop-down box
This box is at the bottom of the window. A drop-down menu will appear after that.
Step 8. Select a Google account
Click the email address associated with the account you use to sign in to Chrome.
Step 9. Click SAVE
It's a blue button in the lower-right corner of the window. After that, a second profile will be created.
It may take a while for the profile to complete
Step 10. Click OK, GOT IT
It's a gray button at the bottom of the window. Don't click the option " SWITCH TO [NAME] ” because you don't need to use a supervised account.
Step 11. Click the name tab again
It's a tab in the upper-right corner of the window. A drop-down menu will be displayed.
Step 12. Click Exit and childlock
This option is at the bottom of the drop-down menu. After that, Chrome will be locked with a password and the browser window will be closed.
You can log back into Chrome by opening your browser, selecting an account, and entering your Google account password
Tips
- Chrome will save the tabs that are still open. When Chrome is unlocked, the tab will still be displayed.
- Choose a strong password. Short passwords or those containing one word can be hacked easily.
- Email accounts activated via Gmail, but ending with a different extension (eg “.edu”) or having a different domain name (eg “wikihow”) cannot be used to lock the browser.
