This wikiHow teaches you how to change the text size on a Mac or Windows computer, as well as change the text size on your computer's web browser.

Method 1 of 6: On Windows Computer
Step 1. Go to Start
Click the Windows logo in the lower left corner.
Step 2. Open Settings
Click the gear icon in the lower left of the Start window.
Step 3. Click System
This computer screen-shaped icon is located at the top left of the Settings window.
Step 4. Click the Display tab in the upper left corner
Step 5. Click the "Change the size of text, apps, and other items" drop-down box
It's in the middle of the Settings window. A drop-down menu will be displayed.
Step 6. Click one of the text sizes
In the drop-down box that appears, click the percentage amount of text size that you want to increase.
- The lowest size that can be selected is 100%.
- Some text will not change until you restart the computer.
Step 7. Try using Magnifier
Magnifier is a feature you can use to enlarge the view so that you can see items on the screen without having to change other settings:
- Press Win++ key to display Magnifier. You can also open it by typing magnifier into Start, then clicking Magnifier.
- Click - to reduce the text to a maximum of 100%.
- Click + to enlarge the text up to a maximum of 1600%.
- Position the cursor in one of the corners of the screen to scroll the screen.
Method 2 of 6: On Mac Computer
Step 1. Run Finder
Click the Finder icon, which is the blue face in the Mac's dock.
Step 2. Click the View menu in the upper-left corner of the Mac computer screen
A drop-down menu will be displayed.
Step 3. Click Show View Options
This option is in the drop-down menu. A pop-up window will be opened.
Step 4. Click the "Text size" drop-down box
It's at the top of the View Options pop-up window.
Step 5. Choose a text size
In the drop-down menu that appears, click the font size that you want to use.
If the Finder view is changed to another format, you will have to repeat this process
Step 6. Resize the sidebar
To enlarge menu options in the Finder, do the following:

Click menu Apple
- Click System Preferences… in the drop-down menu.
- Click General.
- Click the " Sidebar icon size " drop-down box.
- Select the desired size (eg Medium).
Step 7. Try using the "Zoom" feature on a Mac computer
Macs have accessibility features that allow you to enlarge fonts without changing system settings. Turn on Zoom first so you can use it:

Click menu Apple
- Click System Preferences….
- Click Accessibility.
- Click Zoom.
- Check the box "Use keyboard shortcuts to zoom".
- Activate Zoom by pressing Option+⌘ Command+8, then zoom in on the font using Option+⌘ Command++. Zoom out the font by pressing Option+⌘ Command+-.
Method 3 of 6: Using Google Chrome
Step 1. Run Google Chrome
Double-click the Chrome icon, which is a yellow, green, red, and blue circle.
Keep in mind that if you want to resize a menu item in a web browser, use the Zoom (on Mac) or Magnifier (Windows) feature
Step 2. Try changing the font size on certain web pages
If you only want to zoom in or out on a specific web page, just use a keyboard shortcut. It will only be applied to the web page for which it is intended. You'll also need to resize it if you just cleared the browser's cookies:
- Go to the web page for which you want to change the font size.
- Press and hold Command (Mac) or Ctrl (Windows).
- Press the + key while holding down Command or Ctrl to enlarge the font.
- Press the - key while holding down Command or Ctrl to reduce the font.
Step 3. Click in the upper right corner
A drop-down menu will be displayed.
Step 4. Click Settings
It's in the middle of the drop-down menu. The Settings page for Chrome will open.
Step 5. Scroll down the screen, then click the "Font size" drop-down box
It's in the " Appearance " option group at the top of the page. A drop-down menu will be displayed.
Step 6. Select the desired font size
In the drop-down menu, click the text (for example Medium) which describes the size of the font that you want to reduce or enlarge.
Step 7. Restart Google Chrome
Do this by closing Chrome and running it again. This is to ensure that every page you open applies the text size you set.
Method 4 of 6: Using Firefox
Step 1. Start Firefox
Double-click the Firefox icon in the shape of an orange fox wrapped around a blue globe.
Keep in mind that if you want to resize a menu item in a web browser, use the Zoom (on Mac) or Magnifier (Windows) feature
Step 2. Try changing the font size on a specific web page
If you only want to zoom in or out on a specific web page, use a keyboard shortcut. It will only be applied to the web page for which it is intended. You'll also need to resize it if you just cleared the browser's cookies:
- Go to the web page for which you want to change the font size.
- Press and hold Command (Mac) or Ctrl (Windows).
- Press the + key while holding down Command or Ctrl to enlarge the font.
- Press the - key while holding down Command or Ctrl to reduce the font.
Step 3. Click in the upper right corner
This will bring up a drop-down menu.
Step 4. Click Options in the drop-down menu
The Options page will open.
On Mac computers, you have to click Preferences in the drop-down menu.
Step 5. Scroll down to the "Language and Appearance" section
It's at the top of the Options page.
Step 6. Click on Advanced… located at the bottom right of the "Language and Appearance" section
A pop-up window will be displayed.
Step 7. Uncheck the "Allow pages to choose their own fonts" box
This box is at the bottom of the pop-up window.
Step 8. Click the "Minimum font size" drop-down box in the middle of the pop-up window
A drop-down menu will be displayed.
Step 9. Click one of the font sizes
In the drop-down menu, click the number you want to use as the browser's minimum font size.
Step 10. Click OK at the bottom of the window
If you select a size that exceeds 24, Firefox will warn you that some pages may not be usable
Step 11. Restart Firefox browser
Do this by closing and restarting Firefox. This is to ensure that these settings are applied to all future Firefox pages.
Method 5 of 6: Using Microsoft Edge
Step 1. Run Microsoft Edge
Double-click the Microsoft Edge icon, which is a blue (or white) "e".
Keep in mind that if you want to change the size of a menu item in a web browser, use the computer's Magnifier feature
Step 2. Click in the upper right corner
This will bring up a drop-down menu.
Step 3. Increase or decrease the font
In the " Zoom " section of the drop-down menu, click the icon + to enlarge the font, or - to reduce text.
Unlike most other web browsers, if you use this menu to zoom out or zoom in on a web page, other pages open in Edge will change as well
Method 6 of 6: Using Safari
Step 1. Start Safari
Double-click the blue compass-shaped Safari icon in the Mac's dock.
Keep in mind that if you want to resize a menu item in a web browser, use the Zoom feature on a Mac
Step 2. Try changing the font size on one of the web pages
If you only want to increase or decrease the font on a specific web page, just use a keyboard shortcut. It will only be applied to the web page for which it is intended. You'll also need to resize the font if the new browser cookies are cleared:
- Open the web page for which you want to resize the font.
- Press and hold down Command (Mac) or Ctrl (Windows).
- Press the + key while holding down Command or Ctrl to enlarge the font.
- Press the - key while holding down Command or Ctrl to reduce the font.
- If you want to return the web page to its original size, click View, then Actual Size in the drop-down menu.
Step 3. Click Safari
This menu is in the upper-left corner of the screen. A drop-down menu will be displayed.
Step 4. Click Preferences… which is in the drop-down menu Safaris.
Step 5. Click the Advanced tab located at the top right of the Preferences window
Step 6. Check the box "Never use font sizes smaller than"
This box is in the "Accessibility" list of options.
Step 7. Click the "9" drop-down box
The box is to the right of the "Never use font sizes smaller than" line of text. Clicking on it will display a drop-down menu.
Step 8. Choose a text size
Select a number in the drop-down menu to be the default text size in the web browser.
Step 9. Restart Safari
Do this by closing Safari and running it again. This is to ensure that the font size setting is applied to the browser.
