One of the reasons why Creative mode in Minecraft is popular for creating free buildings is because players can fly to place blocks anywhere. However, if you don't know how to stop flying, you'll be in a lot of trouble. Fortunately, the way to stop flying is the same as starting to fly: just press the jump button twice.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Stop Airing
Step 1. Start or load the game in Creative mode
Flying can only be done in Creative mode. Players cannot fly in Survival mode.
There are third-party mods that let you fly outside of Creative mode. The controls will vary. So, if you are going to use mods, check the mod maker's site first
Step 2. Try to fly or hover
To be able to stop flying, of course you have to be able to fly first. Press the jump button twice when on the ground to fly.
- The jump key on a computer keyboard is the space key. Other versions of the game use different buttons, as follows:
- Minecraft PE: square button on screen.
- Minecraft for Xbox 360/One: button A.
- Minecraft for Playstation 3/4: X button.
Step 3. Stop flying by pressing the jump button twice
You will immediately fall to the ground, and when you land you can walk again as usual. If you want to fly again, just press the jump button twice.
Step 4. No lives are lost due to falls
Fly can only be used in Creative mode. In this mode, the player's life will not be reduced, even from falling from a height. In other modes, players will lose their lives if they fall too high, unless they fall into the water. However, this is not the case in Creative mode.
Method 2 of 2: Alternative Ways to Stop Flying
Step 1. Hold down the squat button to slowly descend
Double-pressing the jump button is the fastest way to stop flying. However, if for some reason you don't want to, there are other ways to stop flying in space. One of them is the squat button. Pressing this button while flying will make the character slowly descend towards the ground. When landing, the character will immediately crouch (walk slowly) as normal.
- On the computer version of Minecraft, the squat button is left shift. Other versions of Minecraft have different controls. For example:
- Minecraft for Xbox 360/One: Press the right control stick
- Xperia PLAY: left touchpad
Step 2. Use command / kill
You won't be able to die in Creative mode, but you can still die with the "/kill" command. When alive again, you will be on the ground.
How to use this command is, open the console (T key on the computer version). Type "/ kill " and enter
Step 3. Teleport the character with the "/tp" command
You can move yourself to specific locations in the game. If the selected location is on the ground (or in it), you will stop flying.
- How to use this command is, open the console and type "/tp". Next, enter the X/Y/Z coordinates (separate with a space). X and Z are the horizontal coordinates while Y is the height coordinate. Y has a minimum value of 0 (Y = 0 is the most basic location in the game world). If the symbol (~) is entered before any of the coordinates, you will be moved to the coordinates your current relative position. You can use negative Y values with the symbol (~).
- For example, if the console says "/tp -100 30 500", you will move to the point -100/500 with a height of 30.
- However, if you write "/tp -100 ~30 500" to the console, you will be moved to location -100/500 30 blocks above current height.
Step 4. Change game mode
Since flying is not allowed in Survival mode, changing the game mode will stop the character from flying. However, keep in mind that in Survival mode your life can be reduced so don't change the mode when you're flying very high.
- An easy way to change game modes is to use the "/gamemode" command. Type this command into the console followed by the desired game mode (separated with a space) and enter.
-
The game mode can be abbreviated by the first letter or numbers 1-3. In other words:
-
- Survival mode can be shortened to s or 0
- Creative mode can be abbreviated c or 1
- Adventure mode can be abbreviated as a or 2
- Spectator mode can be abbreviated as sp or 3
-
- For example, if you want to change the game mode to survival mode, use the command "/gamemode survival " or "/gamemode s" or "/gamemode 0."
Tips
- The / button will open a command console with "/" typed in.
- Hold down the jump button while flying to increase altitude.
- If the above controls don't work, go to the menu options and see if the control settings have been changed.
