When someone buys you a gift on an Xbox One, you'll receive an Xbox Live message and an email letting you know that there's a gift you need to receive. This wikiHow teaches you how to redeem codes for gifts on an Xbox One.

Step 1. Press the Xbox button on the controller
This button has the Xbox logo and is in the top center of the controller. Once the button is pressed, the main menu will appear from the right of the screen.
Step 2. Visit the Communication tab
The icon looks like two speech bubbles and may have a number (in superscripted text) next to it indicating an unread message.
Step 3. Select Xbox Live Messages
All system messages, including gift codes will be displayed.
Step 4. Select Redeem Code
This button is below the message.
- You can also click “ Redeem Code ” in an email or copy the code and visit the Xbox Store link, then redeem the code for a gift.
- Digital codes can only be redeemed in the countries where the codes were purchased. For example, if your friend who lives in Mexico gives you a video game, while you live in Indonesia, you cannot redeem the video game code.
Step 5. Run the rewarded game
After you click Redeem Code ”, the game box will be added to the home screen for you to run. To make sure the game downloads properly, you can try running and playing the game.
