Setting up the Xbox 360 can be quite difficult, especially if you have kids or are tech savvy. This guide will really help you set up your Xbox 360, or teach your child how to set it up.
Step
Step 1. Set up a firm, level workspace near the TV (eg a desk) before starting
Take the Xbox 360 out of its box, then place the console and all the cables in the box in that space.
Step 2. Connect the output cable
If you have an HDTV, connect the HDMI cable to the appropriate port on the console. Otherwise, use the yellow, white and red wires. After connecting the port to the console, connect the port to your TV.
Step 3. Connect one end of the power cable to the Xbox, and the other end to the adapter (as pictured)
Step 4. Connect the adapter to a power source
Make sure the power source is not far from where the console is stored.
Step 5. After all the cables are connected, place the console on a flat place, then turn on the console
If you have a wireless controller, gently press the Power button (as shown) to turn on the controller.
Step 6. Set up the controller
In the sales package, you may receive a wired or wireless controller. To connect a wireless controller, hold down the X button in the center of the controller until the controller flashes, then press the small white button on the front of the Xbox. After that, hold down the little white button at the top of the controller. If you have a wired controller, plug the controller into the appropriate port on the front of the Xbox.
Step 7. Press the silver button on the left side of the Xbox to open the optical drive drawer
Then, insert the movie or game CD/DVD, and press the silver button again. Safe! Your Xbox can now be used to play games or watch movies.
Tips
- Some types of TVs have multiple HDMI connections. Make sure you select the correct HDMI input when connecting the Xbox.
- If you are using a wireless controller, make sure you insert the battery into the back compartment of the controller before turning it on.
- The yellow, white, and red wires have a small box with a slide switch. If the Xbox video output is having problems, slide the switch according to your TV output (HDTV or SDTV).
Warning
- Do not slide the Xbox if the optical drive has a game being played on it. Shifting the optical lens can damage the game piece.
- Xbox is a fragile piece of hardware. Be careful when using the console.
- Avoid sliding the Xbox (or any console) on. If you need to slide the console, do so while the console is off to prevent damage to the drive.
