Just like the iPhone or iPod Touch, your iPad's battery life will be shorter during heavy use. However, there are some actions you can take to keep your device active for hours on end, and this article will explain what you can do to extend battery life.

Step 1. Turn off Wi-Fi and mobile data (iPad + 3G) settings
Your iPad's battery will drain while searching for and trying to connect to nearby Wi-Fi or cellular data towers, so turn this feature off if you're not using Safari or an app that requires it.
Go to “Settings”, “WiFi option” or “Cellular”, and tap the “off” button
Step 2. Turn off or reduce data retrieval time
Frequently updated data includes e-mail notifications and RSS supplies.
- Open "Settings". Tap "Mail, Contacts, Calendars", then open "Fetch New Data" and tap "Manually".
- Another way can be by tapping "Hourly" to increase the data collection interval.
Step 3. Turn off “Push notifications” notifications
The usefulness of this step depends on how many emails or IM+ you normally receive; if there are many, this step is suitable to use because these notifications will drain your battery power.

Step 4. Lower the brightness level
The brighter the screen, the faster your iPad's battery will drain. Lower the brightness to the lowest setting you're comfortable with, but make sure you can still see the screen.
- Go to "Settings", then "Brightness & Wallpaper".
- Select "Auto Brightness", this makes the iPad adjust the brightness level depending on the brightness of the location; or
- Drag the slider to the left to lower the screen's default brightness level. A brightness level of 25-30 percent is sufficient for daytime use, and for most people, it's also suitable at night.

The use of “maps” and other location services will drain the battery. If you leave it on, “Maps” will update constantly even if you don't need it. This update will drain your battery.

Step 7. Enable “Airplane Mode” when you don't need a wireless connection
This is the fastest and most convenient way to disable all wireless features like mobile data, Wi-Fi, GPS, location services and will increase battery life. Using “Airplane mode” in places where 3G connections are unstable or weak is also a good thing.
Step 8. Protect iPad from extreme temperatures
Temperatures that are too high or too low can cause a decrease in battery life. Store the iPad at a temperature between 0ºC to 35ºC.
Remove the iPad case while charging the battery as this can reduce ventilation, increase the temperature of the iPad, and has the potential to damage the battery (charging the battery releases heat)
Step 9. Keep your software up to date
Apple recommends updating regularly because Apple engineers are always looking for ways to optimize battery performance and when they find a way, they pass it on through software updates.
Step 10. Enable the “auto-lock” feature
This will turn off your iPad's screen after a period of inactivity. This method only turns off the screen, not the iPad.
Go to "Settings", "General", and tap "Auto Lock". Set a short time interval, for example 1 minute

- Charging the battery in a warm place reduces the amount of power received by the battery and lowers the voltage from the charger. So charge your iPad in a cool place to get the most out of it while charging.
- Contrary to popular belief, frequently turning off iPad when not in use and turning it back on when you need it, especially in a short period of time, will drain more battery power due to the energy consumption when iPad is turned on/off.
- Always charge your device before leaving the house, especially on long trips. Bring a charger with you when you go out for more than one night or for a long period of time. While the iPad's battery indicates that it can still last for up to 10 hours, frequent use will reduce battery life dramatically.
- Repeatedly draining your battery completely (called “deep discharge”) can shorten battery life. So, when you use iPad until the battery is completely discharged, it means that you are maximizing the use of iPad, but reducing the recharging time of your iPad battery. (Most lithium batteries can be recharged about 500 times. If you use iPad heavily, the charging period is approximately less than two years).
- Do not leave the end of the charging cable plugged in for too long because it can heat up.
- Don't overcharge your iPad. This will reduce battery life.
- Apple states that the maximum normal battery life for surfing the internet using WiFi, playing music, or watching videos is ten hours, while surfing the internet using a 3G network is nine hours.
- Perform battery calibration every month. Empty the battery and then charge it to 100 percent.
