Cleaning the silicone case of the phone is very important because this is where a lot of germs and dirt settle. You can use soap and water to clean the silicone, and all harsh cleaners should be avoided. In case of urgency, use disinfecting wipes to remove bacteria from the case. Thoroughly scrub your phone case once a month and disinfect it at least once a week.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Washing the Case Every Month
Step 1. Take the phone out of the case for cleaning
You'll need to remove the silicone phone case before it can be thoroughly cleaned. Stretch the corners of the case to pull it away from the phone. Continue lifting the silicone case around the phone until it is completely removed from the device.
Try not to pull the silicone so hard that it breaks or tears
Step 2. Pour 1-2 drops of dish soap into 240 ml of warm water
The best solution for cleaning silicone cases is soapy water. Put the dish soap in a cup of warm water so the soap dissolves well. Stir until the water is slightly foamy.
Step 3. Dip a clean toothbrush in soapy water and scrub the case
Soak a clean toothbrush in soapy water for 1-2 minutes, then rub it on the silicone case. Rub the case in a small circle. Focus on any stains or scale on the case to keep it as clean as possible.
Dip the toothbrush back in the soapy water every few seconds to make sure it's thoroughly clean
Step 4. Sprinkle a pinch of baking soda on stubborn stains or dirt
Baking soda can help remove grease, dirt, and stubborn stains on your phone case. Sprinkle a small amount of baking soda directly onto the soiled area. Continue scrubbing with the toothbrush.
Step 5. Rinse the case thoroughly with tap water
When you're done scrubbing, rinse the soapy water off the case with tap water. Try to use warm water instead of cold or hot water. Rub the case more gently when rinsing to make sure no soap remains.
Step 6. Allow the case to dry completely before putting it back on the phone
If you put the case back in damp conditions, your phone could be damaged and mold growing. Pat the tissue against the case to remove as much water as possible. Then, let the case sit for an hour to make sure it's dry and ready to use.
If you're pressed for time, try drying your phone case with a hairdryer for a few seconds on the lowest setting
Step 7. Clean the case once a month to minimize germs and bacteria
Cell phones are typically used on a daily basis, which means that oils and bacteria are often transferred between your hands and your device. So, minimize the number of bacteria and germs by cleaning the outer phone case once a month. To do this, set a reminder alarm or note it on your calendar or agenda.
Method 2 of 2: Disinfect the Case Every Week
Step 1. Take the phone out of the case to make sure all the germs can be cleaned
Disinfecting only the outside of the case is not effective because bacteria can remain on the phone and case. Always remove the case from the phone so that it can be fully sanitized. Be sure to target germs on the inside and outside of the silicone for best results.
Step 2. Wipe the case with a disinfecting tissue at least once a week
Rub the disinfection wipes all over the inside and outside of the case. Leave the casing for a few minutes to dry. If so, plug it back into the phone.
It's also a great way to quickly disinfect the case should it touch germs
Step 3. Rub the case with isopropyl alcohol to kill germs, if you don't have a disinfecting wipe
Wipe a cotton swab moistened with alcohol on the inside and outside of the phone case to kill any germs.
The rubbing alcohol will evaporate within seconds of rubbing
Step 4. Put the case back on the phone when it's dry
Make sure there is no moisture left on the case so as not to damage the phone. Wait a few extra minutes to make sure the case is completely dry before putting it back on the phone.
Step 5. Avoid using harsh cleaning products for the case
Strong and concentrated cleaning products can cause the silicone to break down. Try not to use harsh cleaners for the phone case. These cleaners include:
- Home Cleaning
- window cleaner
- Ammonia-containing cleanser
- Cleanser containing hydrogen peroxide
- Aerosol spray
- Solvent
Tips
- Be careful cleaning the case if it has crystals, beads, or other decorations.
- Use a dark silicone case so that the stain is not easily visible.
Warning
- Do not boil the case to disinfect it as the silicone will shrink.
- Paint that comes from clothes is usually permanent on the silicone.
