Over time, your phone's speakers will become covered in invisible dust, dirt, and smudges. If you don't clean it, the sound from the cellphone will sound unclear. Before you head off to a repair center, there are several effective ways to clean your phone's speakers yourself, either from the inside of the phone or from the outside.

Method 1 of 3: Getting Rid of Loudness on Loudspeakers Using Items at Home
Step 1. Locate the speakerphone of the phone
iPhone speakers are usually located at the bottom, which is to the right and left of the charger plug. The speakers on Samsung phones are usually located on the bottom, but only on one side of the charger plug. The loudspeaker for making calls is almost certainly on the top of the phone that is usually held against the ear when calling.
There are several alternative locations for loudspeakers on the phone, for example on the side near the sound control button or at the bottom of the phone's face
Step 2. Use a cotton swab to wipe the outside of the speakerphone
Move the cotton ball in a circle around the speaker hole while pressing it slightly. Continue this process until all the dirt is gone. If the speaker is big enough, you can press a cotton swab into it. However, be careful – press just enough to get the cotton tip into the slot. After entering, move the cotton to the right and left while pressing it slowly.
Replace the dirty cotton swab with a new one
Step 3. Turn the sticky tac into a small ball, then press it into the speaker hole
Prepare a sticky tac measuring 2.5 cm, then knead until it becomes a small ball. Keep squeezing until the object feels soft and tender. After that, press the ball into the speaker hole. Apply enough pressure to allow the ball to fill the speaker holes. Hold for 2-3 seconds, then release – you'll see dirt sticking to the ball. Repeat this process until no dirt remains in the speaker holes.
- Move the sticky tac in a circular motion so that the clean part sticks to the speaker.
- You can buy sticky tacs at a stationery store or online.
Step 4. Clean the speaker holes with a soft-bristled brush
Point the brush at the top or bottom of the phone. Hold it so that it is parallel to the top of the phone, then move it up and down. After that, change the direction of the brush to be vertical (parallel to the side of the phone), then clean it by moving it right and left.
- Adjust the direction of the brush and use the tip of the bristles to remove stubborn dirt.
- Use a soft-bristled brush – a brush that is too soft isn't tough enough to remove stains, and a hard-bristled brush won't fit into the speaker holes.
Method 2 of 3: Blowing Dirt with High Pressure Air
Step 1. Purchase a canned air compressor
You can find this product at grocery stores, electronics stores, and online stores. Test the air compressor first by pointing it down and pressing the nozzle of the sprayer. Feel how strong the air coming out of the spray is.

Step 2. Connect the straw to the tip of the sprayer for more accuracy
Attach a thin straw to the end of the canned compressor with screws. Test the device by facing it down and pressing the nozzle of the sprayer. Air will come out of the end of the straw.
- Tighten the screw if any air escapes from the side of the spray tip.
- There's no need to attach a straw if you're comfortable spraying the air compressor without it.
Step 3. Blow air into the speaker slot 3-4 times
Keep the tip of the sprayer at least 1.3 cm from the speaker hole. This will remove any debris that was pressed into the speaker when cleaned with a cotton swab.
- Make sure you don't blow the air from the compressor too close to prevent damage to the phone's internal components.
- If you choose to use a straw, hold the object with your non-dominant hand to keep it steady as the air is sprayed.
Method 3 of 3: Cleaning the Speakers from the Inside
Step 1. Remove the back of the phone with the suction cup and spudger
Heat the back of the phone for 15 seconds using a hairdryer on a low heat setting. After that, use the suction cup to remove it. While facing the phone screen down, slowly pull the suction cup towards you. At the same time, insert the flat end of the spduger into the crevices of the phone case, then pry it toward you. Continue prying the phone case – while pulling on the suction cup – until the case is removed.
- You can buy a spudger – a tool with a flat head like a screwdriver that is usually used to pry things out – at a hardware store.
- If you're having trouble, reheat the phone case to loosen the glue holding the case.
- For older phones, you can pry the back of it by hand. However, you can't do the same for newer phones and expensive phones with glass frames.
Step 2. Remove the metal cover and built-in speaker
Loudspeakers, whether large or used for making calls, are usually protected by a metal cover. Remove the screw securing the cover with a screwdriver. After that, pull the loudspeaker inside slowly.
Gently pry the speakers with a spudger if you have difficulty
Step 3. Wipe the speakers with a microfiber cloth dipped in alcohol
Pour some of the spirit on the microfiber cloth. Gently rub the cloth against the speaker until it is clean. Blow the speaker hole from the outside. After that, dip the tip of a cotton ball into the spirit and rub it into the hole.
- You can also use other soft fabrics or lint-free fabrics. However, this cloth is not as effective at removing dirt.
- make sure the speakers and jacks are dry before you put them back in.
Step 4. Remove the second cover if you still can't access the speaker
Some phone models – notably Samsung – have two layers of covers that must be removed to access the speakers. These phones usually have an extra 10-13 screws to remove, but that number can vary by model. Use a 10 cm screwdriver to turn the screw counterclockwise until it comes off. After that, remove the cover.
- Pull the plastic screw cover if there is one.
- Once the second frame has been removed, you can access and clean the speakers and their holes. However, sometimes you can only clean the hole.
- Replace the rear frame when you have finished cleaning the speakers and reinstall the screws. After that, you can replace the metal cover and the back of the phone.
