Shampoos that are sold in the market contain harsh cleaning agents called sulfates, which can make your hair dry and damaged over time. If you want healthy, shiny hair, you can make your own shampoo using inexpensive ingredients. Learn how to make shampoo with Castile soap, with soap flakes, and with baking soda.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Soap Flakes Shampoo
Step 1. Prepare the ingredients
This shampoo recipe can be made with any type of soap flakes. Castile soap flakes are commonly used in shampoo, but you can also make shampoo using flakes made from regular bar soap. Make sure the soap is made from natural ingredients that you want to use on your hair. You will need:
- Soap flakes
- Boiling water
- Almond (almond) oil
- essential oil
Step 2. Grate the soap
If you didn't buy soap that wasn't flaky yet, use a cheese grater or knife to scrape the soap into flakes that will dissolve in hot water. You need about 113 grams of soap flakes to make 1 liter of shampoo. Place the soap flakes in a large bowl.
Step 3. Bring the water to a boil
Pour 1 liter of water into a small saucepan and bring to a boil on the stove. In addition, you can also boil 1 liter of water in the microwave.
Step 4. Pour boiling water into a bowl of soap flakes
The boiling water will immediately dissolve the tiny soap flakes. Use a spoon to stir the mixture to make sure all the flakes are well dissolved.
Step 5. Add oil
Pour in 60 ml of almond oil and 8 drops of your favorite essential oil, such as lemon balm or peppermint. Stir the mixture well and let it cool.
Step 6. Pour the shampoo into the bottle
Use a funnel or simply carefully pour the shampoo into a shampoo bottle to store for later use.
Method 2 of 3: Castile Soap Shampoo
Step 1. Prepare the ingredients
Shampoos used for dry hair have ingredients that provide extra moisture and prevent hair from becoming too stiff and unruly (frizzy). Dry hair is also prone to breakage and damage, which is why this shampoo is made to strengthen the hair shaft. Look for these ingredients in health food stores:
- Chamomile tea
- Liquid Castile Soap
- Olive oil
- Tea tree essential oil
- Peppermint essential oil
- Rosemary essential oil
Step 2. Make the tea
Soak a bag of chamomile tea in 60 ml of boiling water for 10 minutes. If you have dried chamomile flowers, use about 1 tablespoon. Strain the tea and set aside to cool.
Step 3. Heat the Castile soap
Pour 350 ml of soap into a measuring cup. Heat the soap in the microwave for about 1 minute until the soap is hot. Do not heat it until the soap boils.
You can also heat the soap in a small saucepan on the stove; but make sure that the temperature of the soap does not become too hot
Step 4. Add oil to it
Add 15 ml of olive oil, 7 ml of tea tree oil, and 4 ml of peppermint oil and rosemary oil each. Stir the soap mixture gently after adding each oil. If bubbles form, spray the soapy surface with rubbing alcohol.
Step 5. Add the tea
Add the chamomile tea to the hot soap mixture. Pour slowly to prevent bubbles from forming. Set the shampoo aside to cool. Transfer the cooled shampoo into a 500 ml bottle.
Method 3 of 3: Baking Soda Shampoo
Step 1. Prepare the ingredients
Baking soda shampoo is a dry shampoo that is used as an alternative to regular shampoo (which must use water). You can use it between shampoos to absorb the oil in your hair and keep it looking and smelling fresh. In addition to baking soda, prepare the following ingredients:
- Cornstarch
- Oatmeal (oatmeal) fine
- Dried lavender
Step 2. Mix the ingredients
Combine 1/2 cup baking soda, 1/2 cup cornstarch, 1/4 cup dry oatmeal and 1/8 cup dry lavender. Place the mixture into the bowl of a food processor and grind it into a fine powder.
-
If you don't want to grind all of these ingredients, you can skip dry oatmeal and lavender. This shampoo can still be made without these ingredients.
- You can also use a blender or coffee grinder instead of a food processor.
Step 3. Put the ingredients into the spice jar
Pour the mixture into an empty, clean pepper or salt jar, which you can use to rub it all over your head when you want to use it. Store any leftover shampoo in an airtight container so you can use it if you need to refill the condiment holder.
-
Use this dry shampoo when your hair is completely dry. Otherwise, the shampoo will stick to your hair.
-
Apply shampoo to the roots of your hair, use a hairbrush to spread the shampoo throughout, let sit for 10 minutes, then brush vigorously to remove excess powder from hair.
