Brussels sprouts are highly nutritious and versatile vegetables. Brussels sprouts contain large amounts of Vitamin C and Vitamin K, as well as lots of antioxidants as well. The sulfur contained in brussel sprouts can also help detoxify the body. Brussels sprouts can be cooked in a number of ways and don't require a lot of seasoning to bring out their flavor.
Ingredients
Boiled Brussels Sprout
- 4 cups Brussels sprouts
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 2 tablespoons butter
Stir-fried Brussels Sprout
- 2 ounces Brussels sprouts
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- Salt for taste
- Pepper for flavor
- 2 tablespoons of lemon juice
Grilled Brussels Sprout
- 1 1/2 ounces Brussels sprouts
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Thick Sauteed Brussel Sprout
- 1 1/2 ounces Brussels sprouts
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 clove of garlic mashed
Step
Method 1 of 4: Boiled Brussels Sprout
Step 1. Heat the water to a boil
Place a pot of water on the stove, add a pinch of salt, and wait a few minutes for the water to boil.
Step 2. Wash the brussel sprouts
Wash 4 cups of brussel sprouts under cold running water, peel off the yellow leaves.
Step 3. Put the brussel sprouts in boiling water and cook for 10-15 minutes
Cook until soft, if you can stick a fork into it then the brussel sprouts are ready to be removed.
Step 4. Remove and dry the brussel sprouts
Once it's soft, all you need to do is season it and it's ready to eat. Season the brussel sprouts with 1 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon pepper, and 2 tablespoons butter. Enjoy it while it's hot.
Method 2 of 4: Stir-fried Brussels Sprout
Step 1. Wash and chop the brussel sprouts
Wash with cold water and peel off the yellow leaves. Then cut it in half from the tip to the stem, making a 1.3 cm cut inside the stem to help heat evenly across the inside of the brussel sprouts.
Step 2. Heat 1/4 cup olive oil in a frying pan over medium heat
Make sure that the frying pan you are using is large enough to accommodate the brussel sprout pieces.
Step 3. Place the brussel sprouts in the frying pan with the sides facing down and season with the seasonings
Add pepper and salt for taste.
Step 4. Saute the brussel sprouts
Cook one side for 5 minutes until golden brown, and flip to cook the other side.
Step 5. Put 1/3 cup of water in the frying pan
The water you provide will be able to coat the entire bottom of the frying pan. Cook the brussel sprouts until all the liquid has evaporated and the vegetables are cooked through. Then add 2 tablespoons of lemon juice and serve hot.
Method 3 of 4: Grilled Brussels Sprout
Step 1. Preheat your oven to 204ºC
Step 2. Wash and peel off the layers of the brussel sprouts
Wash in cold water and discard the yellow part. Cut the stems for easy cooking.
Step 3. Season the brussel sprouts in a bowl
Add 3 tablespoons of olive oil, 3/4 teaspoon salt and 1/2 teaspoon black pepper.
Step 4. Toss the brussel sprouts to coat them evenly and place them in a single layer grill
This will combine the flavors and the brussel sprouts will cook evenly.
Step 5. Bake the brussel sprouts for 35 - 40 minutes until soft
After 30 minutes, check to see if the brussel sprouts are soft by sticking a fork into them. Shake the grill a certain amount of time to ensure that the vegetables cook evenly.
Step 6. Serve
Sprinkle with the remaining 1/4 teaspoon salt, and enjoy while it's hot.
Method 4 of 4: Thick Sauteed Brussel Sprout
Step 1. Heat the water to a boil
Place a pot of water on the stove, add a little salt and wait for it to boil.
Step 2. Wash the brussel sprouts
Drain 1 1/2 ounces of brussel sprouts under cold running water and discard yellow leaves.
Step 3. Cut the brussel sprouts
Cut it in half from the tip to the stem, making a 1.3 cm cut at the stem.
Step 4. Boil the brussel sprouts for 5-10 minutes
When the vegetables start to soften, remove them.
Step 5. Add butter, salt and garlic to a frying pan then heat it
Add 2 tablespoons of butter, 1 teaspoon of salt and 1 clove of crushed garlic to a frying pan. Wait 1-2 minutes until the ingredients are hot and the garlic gives off its aroma.
Step 6. Cook the brussel sprouts for 3-5 minutes, or until lightly browned
Stir gently to evenly distribute all ingredients. If the frying pan becomes too dry add another 1 tablespoon of butter.
