Step
Method 1 of 4: Simple Pumpkin Spice Latte
Step 1. Mix milk, pumpkin puree and sugar
Pour the milk into a 2 liter pot. Add pumpkin puree and sugar. Keep stirring the ingredients until the puree is dissolved and evenly mixed.
Make sure you use pure pumpkin puree, and not pumpkin pie mix puree. The product contains additional ingredients that are not suitable as a latte
Step 2. Heat the milk mixture over medium heat
Place the pot on the stove and turn the heat to medium. Heat the milk until it starts to steam. Keep stirring the mixture and don't let the milk boil.
Step 3. Add pumpkin pie spice, vanilla extract, and coffee
You must use a strong brew of coffee. Otherwise, the latte will feel too light and milky. You can use freshly brewed coffee from a coffee maker or instant coffee. For a more classic/traditional latte, use 1-2 shots of espresso (about 30-60 ml).
Step 4. Stir all ingredients again
If you want, you can beat the mixture using a hand blender to make the milk more foamy.
Step 5. Pour the latte over the two mocks
Add the whipped cream and a little pumpkin pie spice on top. You can also use cinnamon or nutmeg powder as an alternative.
Method 2 of 4: Pumpkin Spice Latte Gourmet
Step 1. Heat the pumpkin puree and pumpkin pie spice in a small saucepan
Combine the puree and spices in a small saucepan. Heat both ingredients over medium heat for 2 minutes while still stirring. The mixture is ready to be processed when the aroma comes out.
- For a more distinctive taste, add a little ground black pepper.
- Make sure you use pure/unsalted pumpkin puree, and not pumpkin pie mix puree.
Step 2. Add sugar
Keep stirring the ingredients until the mixture thickens and has a syrupy texture. If you want a latte that is not too sweet, reduce the amount of sugar.
Step 3. Add milk and vanilla extract
Reheat the mixture, but make sure it doesn't boil over.
- The milk and vanilla extract make the latte taste sweeter and lighter, just like you can get at a coffee shop. For a less sweet treat, use only 1 tablespoon (15 ml) of vanilla extract.
- Keep stirring the ingredients so the milk doesn't boil and spoil.
- You are free to determine the type of milk used. Whole milk provides a richer taste and more foam, but low-fat milk also retains a lot of foam and makes your latte healthier.
Step 4. Mix both ingredients in a hand blender
Keep beating all ingredients until the mixture is frothy. This process takes 15-30 seconds. You can also use a regular blender or a food processor, but make sure you attach the lid to the blender jar tightly and cover the glass with a towel. Otherwise, the mixture may seep out and spill.
- If you don't have any blender, stir the mixture with an egg beater. Even though it's not that smooth, at least you can still taste the pumpkin puree in the final drink.
- The mixture will have a rich, fluffy foam after beating. You can get more foam if you use whole milk, or less foam if you use low-fat milk.
Step 5. Pour the espresso into two separate mugs
If you don't have an espresso machine, you can make one using instant espresso powder. Brew and use 120 ml of strong black coffee instead.
If you're using coffee, make sure it's thick. Otherwise, the latte will taste too sweet, light and milky
Step 6. Pour the milk mixture into the mok
The milk and espresso will mix on their own, but if they don't, stir every mock. If the mixture has too much grit from the pumpkin puree, you can pour the mixture into the mug through a sieve.
Step 7. Prepare the whipped cream
Pour 60 ml of heavy cream into a mixer or food processor equipped with a whisk. After that, beat the cream until the cream that sticks to the beater forms a sharp, stiff end when the whisk is lifted.
You can use store-bought whipped cream as an alternative and skip this step
Step 8. Garnish the latte with whipped cream
Use a wide spoon or rubber spatula to scoop out the whipped cream and add it to each mug. You can re-decorate the latte with cinnamon powder, nutmeg, or pumpkin pie spice.
Method 3 of 4: Making a Pumpkin Spice Latte in the Microwave
Step 1. Mix all ingredients, except coffee and cream
Pour the milk into a special microwave bowl. After that, add the pumpkin puree, sugar, pumpkin pie spice, and vanilla extract.
- For a more subtle pumpkin flavor, reduce the pumpkin puree to 1 tablespoon (15 grams).
- Make sure you use pure/unsalted pumpkin puree. Pumpkin pie mix puree contains too many additives.
Step 2. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap
Make a vent in the center of the plastic using a fork or skewer. This way, steam can escape from inside the bowl.
Step 3. Microwave the mixture until hot
The length of time it takes depends on the power of your microwave. Usually, this process takes about 1-2 minutes.
Step 4. Beat milk until frothy
You can beat it using a hand mixer or a regular egg beater. The shuffling process takes about 30 seconds.
Step 5. Pour the brewed coffee into a large mug
You can use a fresh brew (from ground coffee) or instant coffee, but make sure it's thick. If you use regular coffee, the latte will be too light and milky. You can also use 1-2 shots of espresso as an alternative.
Step 6. Pour the milk mixture into the mug
If necessary, stir briefly with a spoon.
Step 7. Garnish the latte with whipped cream
For extra flavor, add pumpkin pie spice to the drink. You can also use nutmeg powder or cinnamon as an alternative.
Method 4 of 4: Making Pumpkin Spice Latte in a Slow Cooker Pot
Step 1. Put the strong coffee in a large slow cooker pot
The pot used must be large enough to hold a minimum of 2.5 liters of liquid. Make sure you use very strong coffee. If you use a regular brew, the latte will be too sweet, light, and milky.
Step 2. Add milk and heavy whipped cream
Whole milk is a better choice, but you can also use less fat (2%) or skim milk. For a softer latte, add 120 ml of heavy whipping cream. For a lighter latte, add another 120 ml of milk (depending on the type of milk you choose).
Step 3. Add pumpkin puree, sugar, vanilla extract, and pumpkin pie spice
Keep stirring the ingredients until the color and texture of the mixture is consistent and all of the puree is dissolved. Make sure you use regular pumpkin puree, and not pumpkin pie mix puree. Pumpkin pie mix puree contains too many additives that can affect the flavor of the mixture/recipe.
Step 4. Cook the latte over high heat for 2 hours
Make sure the pot remains covered while the ingredients are cooking. After 1 hour, gently stir the mixture using a whisk.
Step 5. Serve the latte in a large mok
Garnish each serving with whipped cream and pumpkin pie spice.
Tips
- To make a chilled latte, let the mixture cool down to room temperature, then pour it into a tall glass filled with ice.
- If you don't have pumpkin pie seasoning, mix together 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon, 2 teaspoons of ground ginger, and teaspoon of ground nutmeg.
- You can use plant-based milk instead of regular milk. Almond milk, coconut milk, and soy milk can be the right choice.
- Use skim milk in place of regular milk for a lighter latte.
- You don't need to use the exact measurements mentioned in this article/recipe. Feel free to change the amount of milk, coffee, sugar, pumpkin puree, and pumpkin pie spice according to taste.
- If you're using nonfat milk and want a richer taste, you can add a little bit of milk and cream (half-and-half).
- For a stronger pumpkin flavor, add more pumpkin puree.
- You can use any type of milk you want. Whole milk is best, but you can also use less fat (2%) or skim milk.
- You can use 1 teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice syrup instead of canned pumpkin puree.
- If you don't have sugar (or don't eat it), you can use a sugar substitute.
Warning
- Do not use regular brewed coffee. Use strong black coffee or espresso. If you use regular coffee, the latte will be too light, sweet and milky.
- Don't use canned pumpkin pie puree. This product contains too many additives which are not suitable for making latte.
