Paper cubes can be used as fun toys, decorative features, or Christmas decorations, among many other uses. Choose a different paper type or folding method to get a different result for every occasion! Read the steps below to make several different types of paper cubes…
Step
Method 1 of 2: Creating a Standard Cube
Step 1. Take a piece of paper
The bigger the paper, the bigger the resulting cube.
Step 2. Draw the body of the cube
In the center of the paper, draw a long rectangle and divide it into four squares with a length of 5 cm for each square.
Step 3. Draw a box on the right side
Draw another square to the right of the second square from the top.
Step 4. Draw a box on the left side
Draw another square to the left of the second square from the top.
- Now the image looks like a cross with six squares of equal size and the longest part should be near your body.
-
If you have a printer, you can print the image below to serve as a pattern. Notice the "ears," or tabs, which are on both sides and on top of the cube-this is useful if you want to glue the squares together.
Step 5. Crop the image
Cut the outside of the image with scissors or a cutter. If you're printing the pattern and want to glue the squares, be careful not to cut the tabs!
Step 6. Fold the paper
Follow along the inner line, and fold the paper inward.
If you want to glue them, make sure you fold the tabs in as well
Step 7. Align the folds
The bottom square must be folded so that it is parallel to or opposite the square in the middle.
Step 8. Finish your box
Glue the tape on all the sides together, and you're done!
If you want to glue it, apply paper glue to the tab, then press the outside of the box against the tab where the glue is smeared
Step 9. Done
Method 2 of 2: Folding Origami Cubes
Step 1. Take a square sheet of paper and fold it
Fold it in half, then unfold it. Fold it diagonally, then unfold it. Fold the other diagonal side, then unfold it.
Step 2. Form a tent
Take each edge of the half-fold and fold it together, so that the diagonals become the edges and the paper becomes a triangle. Press the paper so that it stays flat like this.
Step 3. Fold the corners
With the open part close to your body, take one of the four corners at the bottom and fold it toward the corner points at the top.
Step 4. Then, take the corners of the small triangle formed earlier and fold them to the center line
Step 5. Tuck in the triangle
Take the corner you folded up at the first point and bend it down to slip into the pocket formed by the smaller triangle. Flatten.
Step 6. Repeat for the other side
Both should look like a mirror image.
Step 7. Continue until the original four corners look the same
You will need to turn the paper over to work the other two corners.
Step 8. Fold the top and bottom corners
Fold the top and bottom corners toward the center on one side and then back toward the center on the other.
Step 9. Spread the sides
Open and spread the paper so that it forms an X.
Step 10. Blow the holes to open the cube
Blow air into the hole as quickly as if you were blowing up a balloon. This puff will form a cube. Pinch and bend the cubes to the desired shape and enjoy the result!
