Step
Part 1 of 2: Preparation for Planting Water Boyfriend
Step 1. Buy water henna at an ornamental plant seller in your city
In the spring, most plant vendors sell water henna seeds in a variety of colors which makes it easier for you to choose your preferred water henna color. Buy one color or several colors of water henna and match them so you can create colorful patterns in your garden.
- There are three common types of water henna, each with a slightly different color with different flower petals. The Tom Thumb variety has large, strikingly colored flowers; the Super Elfin variety has flowers of pastel colors; while the Swirl variety has orange and red flowers with petals that have a circular pattern.
- Planting water henna seeds is actually quite easy, but if you want, you can also start by planting from seed. In order for the plant to be ready for planting in the spring, you must sow the seeds in the nursery in January. Gently press the seeds into the growing medium and keep the seedbed container moist at around 21 °C.
Step 2. Keep the seedlings moist before planting
Water girlfriends easily wilt if they don't get enough water. Whether you buy seedlings or grow water henna from seed, make sure your seedlings are kept moist until they are ready to be planted outdoors either in pots or in the ground.
Keep the seedling pot out of direct sunlight if you place it outdoors as this can dry out the small pots quickly
Step 3. Find the right location to plant your water henna
Water girlfriend can grow well in pots, planters (elongated box-shaped planting containers) and plots in the garden. Choose an area that gets partial shade during the day, as this plant prefers shade. Make sure the soil is moist but has good drainage, because water henna can be attacked by fungus if the planting medium is submerged in water.
- This plant lives and grows in open areas, in the tropics, and cannot live in dry areas. This plant can live in the lowlands up to an altitude of ± 1250 m above sea level.
- To find out if an area has good drainage or not, observe the place after a heavy rain. If the area is waterlogged and muddy, add peat or other mixture to the soil to improve soil drainage. If the water is absorbed, you can use this place to plant water henna.
Step 4. Plant water henna when the soil is warm
Water girlfriends should not be planted in the ground or in pots before the last frost has passed, when the soil is warm and the flowers are unlikely to freeze. Planting water henna too early can cause the plant to wilt and die before warm weather arrives.
Step 5. Prepare the planting media
Water girlfriend likes fertile and moist soil. You can prepare it by hoeing the soil to a depth of 30 cm, then mixing compost or a little fertilizer on the soil. If you plant the water henna in a pot, buy a planting medium that is rich in nutrients.
Part 2 of 2: Planting and Caring for Water Boyfriend
Step 1. Make a hole in the ground and plant your water henna
Dig a hole to the same depth as the henna root ball and plant your henna into the soil or pot. The holes can be spaced about 8 to 30 cm apart, depending on your preference. Gently press the soil around the base of the stem. After planting, water henna water evenly.
- You can plant water henna close together to form a beautiful border in a flowerbed. You can plant it in a container with a distance between plants of about 5 to 7.5 cm.
- In addition to containers, you can also plant water henna in hanging baskets. Your water henna plants will soon grow together and cover the bare soil between them.
Step 2. Keep your water henna moist at all times
If the soil is dry, the water henna will quickly wither. Once every few days, water your plant around the roots in the morning. Do not water henna at night and leave it wet all night, as this plant will rot easily if the soil is too wet.
Planters dry faster than soil, so you may need to water your potted flowers more often
Step 3. Fertilize water henna
You can use a slow release fertilizer according to the directions on the package or use a liquid fertilizer every few weeks.
