White jeans can make your wardrobe look classy and trendy. However, dirt and stains on white jeans will also stand out. Clean small, subtle stains on your jeans with salt, soap, and sparkling water, or wash your jeans in the washing machine. Clean coffee, ink, and grass stains with soapy water, and wine stains with hydrogen peroxide. Treat your jeans with a protective cloth and refresh them before steaming them from the shower in your bathroom.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Washing White Jeans
Step 1. Clean the stained area
The sooner you clean the stain, the more likely it is that the stain will go away. Sprinkle a little salt on the stained area. Slightly dampen with soda water and dish soap using a clean white cloth. If possible, rinse the cloth from the part of the fabric behind the stain.
- Do not press too hard or rub too vigorously when cleaning these stained areas. This will actually allow the stain to sink deeper into the fabric.
- Cleaning the stained area will prevent damage due to the washing and drying process in the washing machine, thus making the jeans last longer.
Step 2. Wash the jeans in the washing machine
Wash white jeans only with other white clothes. If the jeans are slightly soiled, wash them on a cold wash cycle. Jeans that require further cleaning will be cleaner if they are washed in a warm wash cycle. Avoid fabric softeners and bleach. Wash white jeans with a detergent that will lighten white clothes.
- Bleach can make your jeans yellow. In addition, these harsh cleaners can damage jeans more quickly.
- To prevent your jeans from turning yellow, rinse the pants in one more rinse cycle after washing them with detergent.
Step 3. Dry the jeans on a low heat setting or let them air dry
High heat settings while drying can also turn white jeans yellow. When machine drying, use only a low heat setting. Air-drying your jeans can avoid the damaging heat of the dryer. Hanging pants in the sun also has a stain-removal effect.
Method 2 of 3: Removing Stains
Step 1. Use dish soap to remove coffee, ink, and grass stains
Drop a little dish soap in a bowl of cold water. Lightly dampen a clean white cloth with this solution, then press the coffee and grass stains from the outside to the center of the stain. Turn the garment over and rinse the stained area with cold water.
For severe stains, clean the stain with cheap vodka in place of a solution of dish soap and cold water
Step 2. Clean red wine stains with hydrogen peroxide
Wet a clean, white cloth until just damp, with hydrogen peroxide. Clean the stained area with this damp cloth from the outside. Continue cleaning inward, toward the center of the stain. Once you have removed as much of the stain as possible, rinse the stain from the reverse side with cold water.
- Sprinkle a thin layer of salt on the newly formed red wine stain. Wait a few minutes for the salt to absorb the wine. Wipe off the salt, then blot up any remaining wine with a clean white cloth with hydrogen peroxide or sparkling water.
- To avoid spreading the stain, when the white cloth has absorbed the red wine stain, fold it over and use a clean part of the cloth.
Step 3. Clean impromptu stains with a ready-to-use cleaner
Many companies sell ready-to-use cleaners in the form of wipes or pens that contain cleaning agents specifically formulated to remove stains. Purchase products like these in stores, supermarkets, or online. For best results, follow the instructions for use.
Keep this ready-to-use cleaner in your purse, bag or desk. That way, you're always ready if your jeans get dirty
Step 4. Clean the old stain with lemon and boiling water
You may be able to clean old stains on white jeans. Put a few slices of lemon in a pot of boiling water. Pour this mixture into a suitable container, such as a large bucket. Put the stained pants in this hot water, then wait for the water to cool. After that, wash the pants as usual.
To avoid burning your hands, use something like a wooden spatula to push the pants completely under the hot water, if needed
Method 3 of 3: Caring for Jeans
Step 1. Use cloth protectors on your jeans if you can
A cloth protector, such as Scotchguard or Stainshield will make your jeans more resistant to stains. Purchase a product like this at the home care or laundry section of a supermarket, grocery store, or online. Only use this product on clean jeans.
- Some types of fabric may react badly to this kind of product. This information should be listed on the instructions on the label.
- Different brands of protective products may have different instructions for use. Always follow the instructions on the label for best results.
Step 2. Avoid discolored clothing or other colored accessories
Colors of clothes, especially new ones, can smudge and stain white jeans if they rub against each other. Similarly, a new purse or other accessories, such as a bag, can leave color marks when they rub against white jeans. Don't wear white jeans with clothes or accessories like this.
Be careful with colors, especially dark ones, like dark blue. These colors fade easily
Step 3. Refresh with steam from the bathroom shower
When taking a hot shower, hang your pants in the bathroom. The steam from the shower will refresh the fabric of the pants and even remove light stains. Air the pants after steaming.
Once the jeans are dry, the fabric is bound to come back a little stiff. This step can improve the texture of pants that previously felt loose to be tighter and make them look better
Step 4. Wash pants only when necessary
Washing and drying jeans for a long time will wear out the fabric. The more often you wash them, the more likely your pants will look dull, worn, or even torn. To remove stains simply clean the stained area as much as possible. Try to wash your jeans only once every five weeks.
