Fashion is the best way to show your uniqueness to the world. People with good style pay attention to color, cut, and fabric. The options are endless! Experiment to find out what clothes accentuate your body and express your unique personality. After all, a great style is one that is your hallmark!
Step
Part 1 of 3: Identifying Style
Step 1. Research style
You don't have to read all the fashion magazines to be inspired. You can find style everywhere you look. Watch your favorite movie again and see what the actors are wearing. There must be someone in your life whose style inspires you. Contact the person for advice.
Set some parameters to guide your style. Don't be afraid to aim for a mix of styles like punk and country girl
Step 2. Plan your style
Once you've decided on a guide for yourself, think of some clothes you can wear to support the idea. Start small and consider easy-to-find clothing such as a jeans jacket or a pair of boots.
Go wash your eyes. It will give you an idea of the current trends and give you a chance to see what clothes you like and don't like
Step 3. Dress to reveal yourself
There is no guidebook to style. Get to know yourself and your body. Style comes from within. It comes from personality and aspirations. It's okay to like fashion trends, but make sure you think carefully before buying anything. Take some aspects of a trend, but in the end bring out your own personality.
Step 4. Create a fashion scrapbook
In a blank book, paste photos of styles you like and write notes about the clothes you see. When you have a fashion dilemma or want to go shopping, open the book and find clothes you like.
Step 5. Clean some of the contents of the cupboard
Sort the clothes and make three piles. Saved, Doubtful and Donate. Think creatively and imagine how you could adapt an existing outfit into the style you envisioned. Offer old clothes to a friend or try selling them to a secondhand store.
Step 6. Be aware of clothing brands
You don't have to shop exclusively by brand. The most important rule of having a personal style is not to shop by brand. You don't have to wear Gucci or American Eagle to be fashionable. What matters is not what you wear, but how you wear it.
Step 7. Imagine your personal style
Use existing trends to guide your style, not dictate it. Wear what you want. Think about what you want people to see in your style. What do your clothes tell strangers on the street? Keep that in mind as you lay out some ideas for your style.
Part 2 of 3: Shop Your Style
Step 1. Know the season where you live
Don't buy a sleeveless top if it's raining in Bogor. Sometimes buying clothes out of season is smart if the discount is big enough. As a general rule, think before you buy anything and buy clothes you can wear tomorrow.
Since the goal is to improve your style, you will feel better if you buy clothes that you can easily flaunt
Step 2. Consider the budget
Adding the contents of the closet sometimes requires a large amount of money. If your budget is small, consider buying clothes in stages and don't feel obliged to buy everything yourself. Create a budget that you can spend before shopping.
- Make a to-do list before shopping.
- Don't fall into the trap of shopping to feel better if you can't afford it.
Step 3. Shop with friends
Pick someone to go shopping with, who is either already fashionable or can critique your style. Shopping with friends can help you filter clothes faster and more efficiently. Accompanied by someone whose opinion you trust about a particular outfit that you don't believe will help.
Step 4. Consider your colors
Everyone has a color that they are comfortable wearing. If you find clothes that fall outside your personal color palette, think carefully. Especially try on clothes that are outside of your comfortable color. There's no reason not to buy something that looks good when you wear it or matches the style you want. Think carefully and keep proof of payment.
Step 5. Know when clothes fit you
A big part of choosing clothes is finding the right size. Finding clothes that fit perfectly can sometimes be difficult. For tops, check shoulder and chest measurements. The shoulder seams should reach the ends of the shoulders and the chest should not be too tight. Pants should fit comfortably around the waist and not oversized.
- Use the dressing room to check whether clothes fit or not.
- If there are gaps between the buttons, you may need a larger size.
- Don't be shy about buying a larger size. Buying clothes that are too small will make you feel uncomfortable and appear unattractive.
Step 6. Taste the ingredients
Don't wear uncomfortable clothes just to be fashionable. Get a taste of the fabric in the store and ask yourself, “Am I comfortable wearing this?” You can also look at the fabrics and percentages listed on clothing labels. Limit the number of these fabrics in your clothes:
- polyester
- Acrylic
- Rayon
- Acetate/Triacetate
- Nylon
Step 7. Experiment in the locker room
Take clothes that you imagine can be mixed and matched into a nice outfit and take it to the locker room. You don't even have to buy the clothes. That will reduce the risk of buying clothes you're not sure you want to buy.
Part 3 of 3: Dress in Your Style
Step 1. Know how to mix and match clothes
You can have a lot of great tops or bottoms, but they won't impress anyone unless you know how to mix and match them. Learn what colors can mix and match together. Look at the color scheme and learn what colors can complement each other. Know when to wear high heels and when to wear sneakers.
Try a monochromatic look, which means all your clothes are the same color. It's a basic technique, but it can make you look modern and elegant
Step 2. Take a risk and make your own clothes
You need a new skirt? Don't go buy it. Just make it! Tear off the sleeves of a long-sleeved top or cut the shorts to make it look like a skirt. You can make lots of clothes, from thrift stores, to suit your style by modifying them at home.
- Personalize clothes. Make your own bag. It's a good idea to use a sewing machine so that the stitches are neat.
- Modification of ancient genie. You can splash paint or wash it off with bleach.
Step 3. Use accessories
Jewelry and other accessories can change clothes from ordinary to fashionable. Know how much jewelry is considered excessive. Use them wisely when trying out new techniques for your outfit. Consider wearing a hat and find out what type of hat fits your outfit best. A baseball cap or beanie can make a big impact.
Step 4. Break the rules
Never wear a certain style if you want more than how you look in that style. Try wearing the "wrong" shoes with certain outfits. For example, try wearing Dr. shoes. Martens in tennis outfits or miniskirts. This mix and match will create a fashionable look. Wear something big with something small. Try wearing a hanging top with an oversized jacket.
Wear a shirt that's obviously too big for you with tight pants or ripped shorts. Long shirts are now quite a trend
Step 5. Be confident
Put on your clothes. Don't let the clothes wear you! The style aims to empower you. It's not meant to make you nervous. Don't feel obligated to stay in your comfort zone. Also know that one day of poorly dressed will not shame you for the rest of your life.
Tips
- Don't worry about what other people think of your style.
- Be a smart buyer. Only follow trends that you think you can wear. Don't follow all the trends. Trends come and go.
- Wear whatever you want and whenever you want.
