There are many ways to wear a bandana, be it around the neck or head. Because bandanas match a variety of styles, you can use them as a complement to your outfit, whether you want to look contemporary, modern, or retro pin-up. Bandanas can be worn quite easily without other accessories to hold them so they are perfect as a complement to your outfit.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Wearing a Bandana As a Hair Accessory
Step 1. Make a wide headband
Place the bandana flat on the table so that it looks like a diamond. Fold the bottom half of the bandana up to form a large triangle. Then, take the top corner of this triangle shape, and fold it down so that it meets the base and forms a pentagon.
- Fold this pentagon shape the same width. Now, the bandana should form a large rectangle.
- Repeat the process of folding the bandana sheet in half until it is about 4 cm wide.
- Take a sheet of the bandana, making sure it doesn't fold open. Place it in the middle of the crown of the head, then tie the two ends in a knot at the nape of the neck.
- If you have left your hair loose, tie the ends of the bandana under your hair.
Step 2. Put on a pin-up style bandana
Follow the steps for making a long sheet of bandanas above. However, instead of placing the center of the bandana on the crown of your head and tying the ends at the nape of your neck, place the center at the nape of your neck and tie the ends in a knot at the top of your head.
Step 3. Make a hippie style bandana
A hippie headband that fits like a crown on your head will make you look relaxed in a bohemian style. To create this style, follow the steps of making a wide headband, then place the center of the bandana on your forehead. Take both ends and tie it behind the head. Make sure your hair is under the bandana.
You can make the headband wide or flat as desired
Step 4. Make a 50s style ponytail
Start by laying the bandana flat and joining the middle to form a rope. Make a small open knotted loop from the bandana string.
- After making an open knot, tie your hair in a ponytail with an elastic band.
- Tuck your hair into the loop of the bandana, then secure the knot tightly.
- This style works better with a long, scarf-like bandana than a regular square bandana.
Step 5. Make a hair cover
Begin creating this vintage style by pulling or bunting your hair and letting the bangs fall (if applicable). Fold the bandana from one corner to the other to form a large triangle. Next, place the triangular shape on the shoulder like a wing. Bring both ends to the crown of the head, style hair in a bob or bangs so that they are in front. Bring the bottom end of the bandana up and tuck it under the other two ends, then tie a knot to tie the three together to form a knot above the forehead.
The bandana should now cover your entire head with bangs and the hair in a ponytail sticking out for a unique look
Step 6. Wear a 90's style bandana
Another classic way to wear a bandana is the 90s style that suits both men and women. To create this style, lay the bandana diagonally and fold it in half to form a large triangle. Bow your head and place the center of the triangular base of the bandana on top of your head. Then, take both ends of the bandana and wrap it behind your head. Tie both ends of the bandana into a knot at the nape of the neck. Make sure the back corner of the bandana is at the top of your hair and is pointing to the knot at the back.
If you have long hair, be sure to tie a knot at the bottom, not at the top
Method 2 of 3: Wearing a Bandana around the Neck
Step 1. Wear a bandana like a tie in front of the neck
This style is a classic way of wearing a bandana around the neck. To create it, fold the bandana from corner to corner so that it forms a triangle. Place it on your shoulder, then bring both ends forward and tie it in a knot in front of the neck.
Step 2. Wear a bandana in front of your face
To create an edgy look, place the bandana on the table so that it forms a diamond and fold it in half to form a triangle. Wrap this triangle around your neck so that both ends are on your back. Tie the ends in a knot and then pull the bandana towards your nose and cover the lower part of your face.
Step 3. Wear a cowboy style bandana
To wear a stylish bandana in this style, follow the same steps as in the previous step. However, instead of tying both ends at the back and pulling it over your face, leave the bandana around your neck like a scarf with one end hanging down.
For a classic cowboy look, wear a red bandana and wear blue jeans and a cowboy hat
Step 4. Make a french knot
Start this beautiful style by folding the bandana from corner to corner to form a triangle. From the longest side of this triangle, fold the bandana over and over again until it forms an 8-10 cm sheet. Place the center of the bandana around your neck and tie the ends behind your neck.
Method 3 of 3: Trying Other Styles
Step 1. Wear a bandana as a bracelet
To wear it as a bracelet, fold the bandana in half diagonally to form a triangle. Then, fold the top edge of the triangle so that it overlaps with the base. Continue by folding the bandanas equally so that they form an 8cm-wide sheet. Wrap the bandana around your wrist, tying a knot to hold it in place. Make sure not to tie the bandana too tightly. Tuck the ends of the bandana under the knot so it doesn't dangle if you want.
Step 2. Tie a bandana around your thighs
Whether worn over a layer of pants or directly on the legs with shorts, this style will make your rock and roll look look cool. Start by folding the bandana into an 8cm-wide sheet as if you were wearing a classic bandana or bandana bracelet. Then, wrap the bandana around your thighs and tie it in a knot. Let the ends of the bandana stick out the front, or bring them back and tuck them under the knot.
Step 3. Tie a bandana around your ankles
Although this method is not common, tying a bandana over pretty shoes can also be an alternative way to add color to your outfit. Fold the bandana into an 8cm-wide strip as if you were wearing a classic bandana or bandana bracelet, then tie it around the ankle in a knot at the back.
Wear pants above the ankles to show off your bandana
Tips
- Due to the abundance of patterned bandanas, consider wearing a plain bandana instead of a patterned bandana when worn as the main accessory.
- To keep the bandana on your head from shifting, attach a bobby pin to hold it in place.
