If your pants are starting to feel tight around the waist, or if you're too confident and buy pants that are too small, don't worry. Before you throw away pants that are too small, try stretching the waistband a little. There are several techniques you can try to do this.
Step
Method 1 of 5: Using “Aerobic Jean”
Step 1. Put on the pants
Wear your own pants. It would be better if the pants are pulled until you can button them.
- You can lie down while buttoning the pants to make it easier.
- If you still can't wear them, pull the pants by hand. Use your strength to pull and stretch the waistband until the pants fit enough for you to wear. For more strength, put one foot on the waistband to hold it to the ground, then pull it with both hands in the opposite direction.
Step 2. Start moving
Squatting, jumping, and pulling your legs up to your chest are some of the moves that will pull and stretch your pants.
Be careful when moving so that the pants don't tear
Step 3. Try walking
Take a walk around to test if the pants are the right fit for you. If not, repeat step two.
Method 2 of 5: Using a Spray Bottle
Step 1. Put on the pants
Wear your own pants. If you can button it up, the pants will stretch better.
If you have trouble wearing pants, try lying down while buttoning them. That will make it easier for you
Step 2. Wet the waistband of the pants
Fill a spray bottle with warm water and spray the waistband of the pants until they are damp.
Step 3. Start moving
Squatting, jumping, pulling your legs to your chest, and other movements will pull and stretch the waistband of damp pants. Do this until the waistband reaches the desired size.
Be careful when moving so that the pants do not tear
Step 4. Let the pants dry
Wear the pants to dry so the pants don't return to their original size.
Method 3 of 5: Using Clothes Hangers
Step 1. Put on the pants
Wear your own pants. Pull on the pants until you can button them.
Lying down while buttoning your pants will make it easier for you
Step 2. Wet the waistband of the pants
Wet with a spray bottle or similar tool.
Step 3. Stretch the waist of the damp pants with hangers
Look for wooden hangers that are at least halfway up your waist. Pull both ends of the waistband and secure it with a coat hanger.
Make sure the waistband stretches tightly along the hanger. If the belt doesn't stretch, look for a larger hanger
Step 4. Dry the pants
Let the pants hang to dry.
Step 5. Try on the pants
If it's still too small, repeat the previous steps with a larger hanger.
Method 4 of 5: Using an Iron and Ironing Board
Step 1. Prepare the iron
Turn on the iron and set the temperature and steam to the highest setting.
Step 2. Prepare the pants
Hold the buttoned pants down on the ironing board and pull them in until the waistband is stretched as far as it will go.
- If you don't have an ironing board, you can do this on a wooden chair (covered with a towel to protect the wood) or on a sturdy wooden board such as a cutting board.
- You can pull on the waistband of the pants to help stretch them.
Step 3. Steam the waistband until it is damp
After that, pull the waistband as tight as you can.
Step 4. Iron the pants
Start ironing the waistband with one hand while keeping the other hand pulling on the waistband. Iron until the waistband is dry.
Do this along the waistband. However, do not cross the seam limit of the waistband. This will give your pants a weird stretch
Step 5. Repeat if necessary
If you need to stretch them again, repeat the process until you get the right size.
Method 5 of 5: Using the Bath
Step 1. Put on the pants
Pull the pants up as far as possible for maximum results. You can lie down while buttoning your pants if you can't wear them while standing.
Step 2. Get into the bath
Fill the tub with hot water. Get into the tub with your pants on and sit until your pants are wet.
Step 3. Get out of the tub
Let the remaining water dry. Keep the pants on for half an hour or until dry.
- You can squat, jump, pull your legs to your chest, or do other movements that will help stretch your pants. Do these things to reach the level of stretch you want.
- Be careful when moving so that the pants don't tear.
- Remember that this will stretch the entire length of the pants and not just the waistband.
Tips
- If the above methods don't work, try taking the pants to a tailor who can add fabric to widen the waistband.
- Some stores sell tie-down waistbands that can help you find the right waist size for your pants.
- Denim pants stretch more easily than pants made of other materials. If they are made of synthetic material, they will be more difficult to stretch.
