Do you want the look of skinny trousers? Or do you want to protect the pants from the bicycle chain? Whatever the reason, it's quite easy to shrink trousers. Here are the steps.
Step
Step 1. Flip the inside of the pants
Step 2. Mark how small you want the pants to be by using a special chalk for sewing
It will be easier if you ask a friend for help to do this. Pinch the seams of the pants until they are the size you want, then hold them down with a pin.
It's easiest to shrink pants at the side seams. Shrinking it not near the seam will be difficult and it is best if you adjust it to the seam as much as possible
Step 3. Check if you can remove the pants easily after the pants are reduced
If the hole is too small for the leg to stick out, you may need to add a zip or button slit at the bottom of the pants. Another alternative is to zoom in again. Remove the pin and measure again.
Step 4. Remove the pants, then remove the seams and hems with a seam opener
Step 5. Iron the pants to smooth them out so there are no creases or creases
If necessary, use starch to straighten the hem.
Step 6. Remove the side seams of the pants all the way up to the reduced size with a seam opener
Make sure you open the seam 2 cm wide from the new size.
Step 7. Check again to make sure the length of the opened seam fits on both sides of the pants
Step 8. Reattach the pins according to the seam design that you have drawn
Sew baste on the seam design according to the reduced size. Put it on again to check if the pants are easy to put on and take off. If the size is correct, continue sewing to the new size with the shorter stitch width.
Step 9. Cut the remaining fabric about 1 cm from the seam
Use a product that prevents the fabric from unraveling (such as a fray-chek) to prevent the ends of the fabric from unraveling if the fabric of your trousers breaks down easily. Another method to keep the edges of the fabric from unraveling is to sew a zig zag or line it with bisban.
Step 10. Reseat the hem, being careful not to let the length vary between the left and right
Also take precautions to prevent the ends of the hem from unraveling.
