If you're not ready for a permanent body tattoo, or you're too young to get a tattoo on your skin, you can still create body art. Temporary tattoos are a great way to find out how much you like a design you might be applying. With a little inspiration and a few basic makeup products, you can create an authentic looking temporary tattoo for whatever purpose you want.

Part 1 of 3: Choosing a Design
Step 1. Find the desired design
An excellent resource for getting tattoo designs is the internet. If you don't want to create your own design, try searching for "tattoo stencils", "tattoo ideas", or "flash art". This way, you can find a variety of images that can be used as inspiration or as an image for a temporary tattoo.
- Look for images that you like, such as cartoon characters, phrases, symbols, food, and so on. All of them make great temporary tattoos.
- Embroidered patterns make excellent models for temporary tattoos. The designs are often just simple, cool, and small so they are perfect for applying to the body.
- Do not use complex or detailed designs. You can make a tattoo easily if you use a simple design with bold lines. Designs with intricate shadows or lines will be difficult to apply to the body.
Step 2. Set the location of the tattoo
If you want to draw it yourself, choose a body part that is easily accessible. However, you can ask an artistically gifted friend to draw the tattoo, and you'll have a more flexible choice of places. Avoid locations that require you to put yourself in awkward or awkward positions while creating them. If your body shakes when the ink is applied, the tattoo design will be damaged.

Part 2 of 3: Drawing Temporary Tattoos
Step 1. Print or draw the design on paper
This is a template for your temporary tattoo. The image should be clear to make it easier for you to trace it. It should also be exactly the size you want it to be on the skin. If the image is not symmetrical, print or draw the design like a mirror so that it transfers to the skin properly.
- If you have trouble creating mirror mode for your tattoo design by hand, use a computer to reverse the design. Open the tattoo design in an image editing program (such as Photoshop or MS Paint), then flip the image on its vertical axis.
- If you have an artistic talent, or have a friend who can help, you can also draw the outline of the tattoo directly on the skin using a waterproof liquid eyeliner or an eyeliner pencil with a small tip. If you want to draw the tattoo yourself this way, you can add color or shadow to the design right after the outline is complete.
Step 2. Trace the outline of the design
In order for the lines you are tracing to fit into the template you want, you may need to paste the template design onto the tracing paper. This way, if the paper slides or sticks to your hand, the template and tracing paper will stay aligned. You can also use parchment paper or wax paper as a transfer medium. Spread wax paper/baking paper over the image, secure it in position using tape, and use a felt-tip marker to trace the outline of your tattoo design.
Outline the image in dark, bold colors. This is useful for making it easier for you to trace the outline with eyeliner, which will later be transferred to the skin
Step 3. Cut the outline into an adjustable sheet of paper
If the wax/bread paper size is too large, you may have trouble transferring the image. Use scissors to cut the paper, leaving only the design and a small space around the outline.
At this point, you can observe and check how the design looks when it sticks to the desired body part. Hang the wax/bread paper downwards on that part of the body. You should be able to look at the paper to see if the tattoo looks the way you want it to look
Step 4. Apply liquid eyeliner on the outline of the design
This should be done quickly as liquid eyeliner dries easily. Follow the outline of the design by applying liquid eyeliner until all the outlines have been traced with this material.
An eyeliner pencil can also be used to transfer the outline to the skin. Be sure to apply a thick layer of eyeliner pencil when tracing the wax paper outline. The thicker the pencil layer, the better the transfer will be
Step 5. Transfer the design outline to the skin
Apply wet liquid eyeliner (or a thick eyeliner pencil) on the part of the body that you want to tattoo. Press the paper against the skin, then use a washcloth or washcloth that has been moistened with warm water to press the back of the wax/bread paper firmly for at least 10 seconds. The heat of the cloth will help the liquid eyeliner transfer to the skin.
When the wax/bread paper is removed, the skeleton of the tattoo design will stick to the skin. Let the skin dry on its own
Step 6. Darken the skeleton of the tattoo using black eyeliner
The best tool for doing this is a waterproof liquid eyeliner. This way, your tattoo can last a long time, look authentic, and don't fade. Do this carefully, but don't be afraid if something goes wrong. You can always fix any errors that occur.
- If you don't have liquid eyeliner, you'll need to use an eyeliner pencil with a very fine tip to get a clean, smudged line.
- If you want to make thin or fine lines or details, you can use a toothpick to apply them. Dip the tip into liquid eyeliner, and gently apply it to the temporary tattoo to add the desired detail.
- If something goes wrong, dip a cotton swab in the makeup remover liquid. To remove waterproof eyeliner, use an oil-based makeup remover. Squeeze the excess liquid from the cotton swab, then remove any faults. Let the area dry, then draw again to correct any mistakes, if necessary.
Step 7. Add shadow or color if the tattoo frame has dried
You can use colored eyeliner to add a pop of color to the tattoo, or a blunt-tipped eyeliner pencil for shadow. Create a shadow effect by blending it using a small, stiff-bristled makeup brush.
- To get a solid black tattoo that looks authentic, lasts long and doesn't smudge, you can use a waterproof liquid eyeliner to fill in the stencil. The tattoo will be very dark and striking.
- To add color, try using colored eyeliner or eyeshadow. Any material that sparkles may look unnatural, but it can beautify a tattoo.
Step 8. Sprinkle transparent powder on the tattoo that has dried
This makes the ink stick to the skin even more and prevents it from smudging throughout the day. If you don't have transparent makeup powder, just use baby powder or talcum powder.
Step 9. Use hairspray or liquid bandage to protect the tattoo
This prevents damage to the tattoo from moisture and keeps it from fading. The easiest material to use is an aerosol spray. However, you can also use a liquid bandage if that's all you have.
- The protective coating can sometimes make a temporary tattoo look shiny. If this happens, bring back its natural look by sprinkling one more time of translucent, talc, or baby powder.
- Try not to exercise, swim, or do activities that produce a lot of sweat. The tattoo probably won't last more than a day, but you can make it last longer and in good condition by avoiding this activity.
Part 3 of 3: Removing Tattoos
Step 1. Use a makeup remover to remove any eyeliner that is stuck to the skin
Certain eyeliners can be removed with just water and soap. Others may stick more firmly, or leave faint traces. Especially for waterproof eyeliner, you will most likely have to use an oil-based makeup remover to remove it thoroughly.
- If you don't have a makeup remover, try using common household ingredients. Some effective household products include coconut oil, olive oil, and petrolatum (petroleum jelly).
- When wiping a temporary tattoo, use disposable tissue, paper towels, or cotton sheets. Otherwise, your towels or washcloths could get dirty.
Step 2. Rinse and wet the area after the temporary tattoo is removed
There may still be traces of makeup even after you've removed it with a cleanser. If you can't get rid of the tattoo, you may need to apply more makeup remover to the tattoo. After rinsing, apply moisturizer to the skin.
The ingredients in makeup can have a harsh effect on the skin, especially if you leave it on for a long time. Restore skin condition by applying moisturizer after you rinse it
Step 3. Remove the temporary tattoo before you go to sleep
Leaving a temporary tattoo overnight can damage and irritate the skin. Also, when you sleep at night, the tattoos can wear off and make your sheets dirty.
