Hair can become dry and damaged from styling with a styling tool, dyeing it, straightening it with chemical straighteners, and being exposed to the sun. We recommend that you restore moisture and volume to your hair with a high-quality deep conditioning treatment. The right deep conditioning treatment can leave your hair moisturized and shiny!
Step
Method 1 of 3: Using Store-Sold Hair Moisturizer
Step 1. Choose the right hair moisturizer
Look carefully for moisturizing hair care products that suit your hair type. There are too many products available on the market and while all of them are designed to restore moisture to your hair, it's a good idea to look for one that is designed for your specific needs.
- If your hair tends to be frizzy and textured, look for products made specifically for hair that tends to tangle.
- If your hair is fine, look for products that are described as "light" or "weightless". Products made with heavier oils can make your hair look heavy.
- If your hair is curly, look for products designed to prevent hair from getting wild and unruly.
Step 2. Wash your hair
Use a gentle shampoo that won't pull too much oil from your hair. Avoid shampoos made from sulfates, which are abrasive cleaning agents that strip hair of its natural oils, making it dry and brittle.
Step 3. Apply a deep conditioning product
Dispense a small amount of this product into your hands and rub your hands together. Then apply this product to your hair starting from the midpoint of the hair shaft to the ends of your hair. Then smooth out the remaining product on your hands from the roots to the tips of your hair. Try to focus on the ends of your hair which tend to be drier than the rest of your hair. If necessary, use a wide-toothed comb to even out this product.
Step 4. Allow the product to absorb
The deep conditioning treatment takes at least 10 minutes to completely absorb into the core of each hair strand. Read the instructions on the product packaging as the product you are using may take longer, but most products like this take 30 minutes or less. You can wear a plastic shower cap while you wait for the moisturizer to absorb, but this is optional.
Step 5. Apply heat
Some products suggest using a blow dryer to heat the product on your hair so it absorbs faster. Use a blow dryer on a low heat and run it all over your hair to heat the product.
Make sure the blow dryer doesn't get too hot so you don't overheat the plastic hat you're wearing
Step 6. Rinse the product
Remove the shower cap and rinse your hair with cold water to tighten the hair shaft and make it shiny. After rinsing, dry hair with a soft towel, then let hair dry naturally and style as usual. By now your hair should be voluminous, shiny and damp.
Wait a few days before washing your hair so that the moisture and health of the hair obtained from this deep conditioning treatment does not disappear
Method 2 of 3: Making Your Own Deep Conditioning Product
Step 1. Gather the things you need
To make an effective deep conditioning treatment product suitable for any hair type, you only need a few ingredients. Purchase (or check your refrigerator for) the ingredients below:
- 1 avocado
- 1/2 banana
- 1/2 can coconut milk
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1 egg or 1/4 cup mayonnaise
Step 2. Mix these ingredients
Place these ingredients in a blender or food processor and blend until smooth. Make sure there are no lumps left for this mixture to work effectively on your hair.
Step 3. Wash your hair
Use a gentle shampoo that doesn't pull too much of the natural oils from your hair. Avoid shampoos that contain sulfates, which are abrasive cleaning agents that strip natural oils from hair, making it dry and brittle.
Step 4. Apply hair moisturizer
Use an unused pastry brush or your fingers to apply the moisturizer to damp hair. Massage this mixture from the roots to the tips of your hair and focus on the areas that tend to be the driest.
- If you have very thick hair, divide your hair into sections and apply this mixture one section at a time to ensure that the moisturizer is evenly distributed throughout your hair.
- If you have any left on your hair conditioner, you can store it in the fridge (or freezer) for later use.
Step 5. Let the hair moisturizer absorb
You can also wear a plastic shower cap for. To speed up absorption, you can use a hairdryer set to low heat to heat up this moisturizer.
Step 6. Rinse hair
Remove the plastic cap and rinse your hair with cold water. Rinse the hair several times until the water that rinses the hair is no longer cloudy and all the hair moisturizer has been rinsed clean. Dry your hair gently with a towel, then style your hair as usual.
- Do not use hot water when rinsing your hair, as this may cause an unwanted reaction with the eggs or mayonnaise.
- Wait a few days before shampooing your hair so that the moisture and health of the hair obtained from this deep conditioning treatment does not disappear.
Method 3 of 3: Doing a Quick Deep Conditioning Treatment
Step 1. Make a handy moisturizer
Olive oil and honey can be used together to thoroughly moisturize hair quickly because honey moisturizes the hair and olive oil can keep this moisture from evaporating from the hair. Combine 1/4 cup honey and 1/4 cup olive oil in a bowl.
Step 2. Apply this hair moisturizer
Moisturize your hair with water and then use a bread brush or your fingers to apply the honey and olive oil mixture. Apply to hair from roots to tips and focus on areas that tend to be the driest. You can use a plastic shower cap to cover this damp hair.
Step 3. Apply a little heat
Since this is a quick method of moisturizing hair, the best way to apply heat is to use a hairdryer. Set the blow dryer to medium heat and direct the warm air over your head for at least 10 minutes.
Change the position of the blow dryer frequently enough to expose your entire head to the heat
Step 4. Rinse the moisturizer from the hair
After 10-30 minutes, remove the plastic shower cap and rinse your hair with cold water to remove the honey and olive oil mixture. Continue to rinse your hair until the water that rinses your hair is no longer cloudy. Dry your hair with a towel and style your hair as usual.
Tips
- Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to your homemade deep conditioning mix for an aromatherapy benefit to your hair.
- Several other types of oil, such as almond oil, can be used in place of olive oil.
- Perform this moisturizing hair treatment as needed; about once a week for dry and damaged hair, or once a few weeks if your hair is less damaged.
- If your hair is oily, don't rub moisturizing products into your roots or scalp. This can make your hair look greasy.
- Don't spend a lot of money on expensive deep conditioner products. Try to compare the ingredients and buy a less expensive product that has the same 4-5 main ingredients as the more expensive product.
