Step
Method 1 of 4: Whole Banana Bread
Step 1. Preheat the oven to 175ºC
Grease a bread pan with butter or cooking spray.
Step 2. Combine flour, baking soda, and cinnamon, and salt in a large bowl
Step 3. Mix the brown sugar and butter until they form a cream in a separate large bowl
Step 4. Add the mashed egg and banana to the butter and sugar mixture, mix well
Step 5. Add the banana mixture, vanilla extract, and banana flavor to the flour mixture
Stir until soft.
Step 6. Pour the batter into the bread pan
Step 7. Bake in the oven for 60-65 minutes or until the dough doesn't stick to the toothpick inserted into the bread
Baking times may vary depending on the type of oven you are using.
Step 8. Let the bread cool for 10 minutes in the pan, then turn the pan over and transfer the bread to a cooling rack or plate
Step 9. Serve the banana bread with or without any toppings you like
Method 2 of 4: Thin Banana Bread
Step 1. Preheat the oven to 170ºC
Step 2. Peel the banana and mash it
Step 3. Add melted butter and stir
Step 4. Add vanilla essence/extract then stir
Step 5. Add baking powder then stir
Step 6. Add sugar then stir
Step 7. Add half the flour then mix
After the dough is well mixed, add the remaining half of the flour and stir.
Step 8. Prepare a square pan and coat it with the remaining melted butter (which is still in the bowl)
Pour the dough, smooth.
Step 9. Put the dough in the oven
Bake for 40-45 minutes. Check if the bread is done.
Step 10. If the bread is not done yet, put it back in the oven and bake for another 5 minutes
Repeat this step until the bread is cooked. When the bread is done, remove it from the oven, then remove it from the pan and place it on a plate, tray, or cooling rack.
Step 11. Wait for 5-7 minutes for the bread to cool, then serve
Method 3 of 4: Old Banana Bread
This method works best for ripe, browned bananas.
Step 1. Preheat the oven to 175ºC
Grease a round pan with butter.
Step 2. Mix the butter and sugar until it forms a cream
Step 3. Add eggs and milk
Add alternately with flour. Stir well.
Step 4. Add the mashed vanilla and banana
Step 5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan
Step 6. Put in the oven and bake for 1 hour
Step 7. Remove when cooked
Check the bread for doneness with a toothpick before removing it from the pan.
Step 8. Add a complement if you want (optional)
Serve warm or cold.
Method 4 of 4: Substitutes and Supplements
Step 1. Add cup of nuts, sultanas, raisins, or cup of chocolate chips
Step 2. Solid fat (white butter) is also great for coating pans
Step 3. Although most banana bread recipes call for granulated sugar, you can substitute brown sugar for a softer, thicker bread texture
Step 4. You can use any liquid other than milk in the banana bread recipe
Butter milk, almond milk, and soy milk are also suitable. However, you can use sour cream or yogurt for a more sour and softer bread.
Step 5. For a spicier bun, try adding a teaspoon of cinnamon and teaspoon of nutmeg
Step 6. Walnuts and pecans are ideal choices to add to banana bread dough
However, it would be better if you roast the beans first before adding them to the batter.
Step 7. If you like chocolate, try adding milk chocolate flakes, semisweet chocolate, or dark chocolate
Keep in mind that regular chocolate chips often sink to the bottom of the bread dough. So, try using mini chocolate chips to mix more evenly. Grated chocolate can also be another option.
Step 8. Add dried pineapple or grated coconut to give the banana bread a tropical flavor
Step 9. To make healthier banana bread, replace half the flour with whole wheat flour
Tips
- To check for doneness, take a skewer and gently insert it into the bottom of the pan, right in the middle. When the bread is done, the dough won't stick to the skewers. However, if the bread is not cooked, some of the dough will stick together.
- If you prefer to make individual portioned banana breads, replace the loaf pan with a muffin tin. Use a layer of paper instead of butter. If you're making muffins, just pour the batter over of the pan.
- If you prefer the bread to be of a smoother consistency, try mashing the bananas in a separate bowl until really soft, then tossing them into the batter. You can also use a hand mixer or a stand mixer to mix the bananas with the other ingredients for a smoother bread.
- If you're afraid of having trouble removing the bread from the pan after baking, use parchment paper to cover the pan before buttering the surface. Be sure to use a piece of paper that is long enough so that there is a portion remaining at the end of the pan that you can pull out to remove the bread. Do not forget to smear this paper with cooking spray or butter.
- Don't throw away the remaining bananas. Put bananas that are too soft to eat in the freezer. The color of the skin will be black. About half an hour before baking, remove the bananas from the freezer. Simply peel and place the bananas directly into the mixing bowl (they will be almost runny in texture). An easy and great way to make use of ripe bananas, right?
- The bread should be able to be removed from the oven when the top is golden brown and the sides are starting to come off the pan.
- Before heating the oven, first place the rack on the bottom. That way, you can get the best grilling results.
- If you want to get a more banana-flavored bread, try reducing the number of bananas in the recipe. You may only need two or three bananas.
- It's best to break the eggs in a separate bowl and beat them gently before adding them to the butter and sugar mixture.
- The more ripe the bananas you use, the better. This means that you should choose bananas that are yellow in color and have brown spots all over, with a texture that is too soft to eat. If you want the bread to have a stronger banana flavor and a denser texture, allow the bananas to ripen even more. Wait until the banana flesh begins to crumble and the skin turns brown.
