In the game of basketball, crossover is a vital maneuver to get past opposing players. In freestyle soccer, crossovers are a fun and cool trick. Mastering either technique can train your agility and coordination.

Method 1 of 2: Crossover in Basketball

Crossover Step 1
Crossover Step 1

Step 1. Master your dribbling skills

Learn all of these skills before you attempt crossover. You should be able to dribble with both hands and pass the ball between your hands without looking at the ball.

Step 2. Dribble ball on one side. The goal of the crossover is to outwit the guarding players so you can get past them. If you plan to move to the left, start dribbling with your right hand. If you plan to move to the right, dribble on the left.

  • Dribble strongly to keep possession of the ball. The ball should return to your hand as soon as it hits the floor.
  • It's a good idea to start on your best side and dribble with your dominant hand.

Step 3. Trick with the help of both hands and eyes

To do this trick, you have to make use of body language. Keep your eyes focused in the direction you "don't" plan. Also keep both feet and shoulders facing that way. But be prepared to do the pivot at a later time.

  • Make several eye contact with the guard.
  • Keep both knees bent at all times. Straight legs can slow your movement.

Step 4. Do the trick in the wrong direction

Make a slight hesitation, then do small lunges in the direction you're looking at. Ideally, the guard will reflexively block you, causing him to lose his balance.

Raise the leg on the side you are falsely aiming for

Step 5. Drop the ball out of reach

When the guard moves towards you, reverse the feint move earlier. Drop the ball out of the ranger's reach, and bend low towards the ground. The ball should land right under your nose. For the next crossover move, the ball should stay below the waist, and preferably below the knee.

Step 6. Dribbe the ball crosswise to the other side of the body. Keeping both hands below the waist, dribble the ball crosswise to the side of the body that is not awake. You can pass the ball between your legs, or just in front of your knees. Keep your head straight while doing this.

This is the hardest part of the crossover. Practice standing still, with your feet wide apart and your gaze on the ball. Once you have mastered that, practice with a straight forward view. Finish by practicing while jogging, then running

Step 7. Follow through with your bare hands

The hand that originally dribbled the ball must follow through after passing, almost touching the knee of the other leg. If you can do this smooth movement with a crossover, you're probably doing the right technique.

Step 7. You have successfully completed the move

Tips

Basketball

Watch the guard's waist. This is the most effective way to find out which direction the guard will move

Football

  • As you swing your foot over the top of the ball, do so quickly. Otherwise, you won't have time to complete this trick.
  • Perform a quick follow-up by juggling in mid-air after swinging your foot over the ball.
