Land in Skyrim isn't that important but is a fun addition to the game. You can build a house on the land you buy and install anything from a kitchen to a trophy room on the land you have purchased. There are three lands that can be purchased in Skyrim, namely Hjaalmarch, Falkreath Hold, and The Pale. The land purchase feature is only available after you have purchased and installed the Hearthfire DLC (Download Content).
Step
Part 1 of 2: Running the Game
Step 1. Install Skyrim's DLC Hearthfire
Visit https://www.elderscrolls.com/skyrim to purchase the game, if you don't already have one.
Step 2. Run the game
Open it through the icon on your desktop or open it through the application folder and double click to open it.
Step 3. Once you start the game, navigate to the city
You can choose any city.
Part 2 of 2: Acquiring Land
Step 1. Wait for the messenger to approach you
The messenger will notify you that he has a message for you. The message will inform you of the land information available for purchase.
The grounds include Windstad Manor in Hjaalmarch, Lakeview Manor in Falkreath Hold and Heljarchen Hall in The Pale. These lands include Windstad Manor in Hjaalmarch, Lakeview Manor in Falkreath Hold and Heljarchen Hall in The Pale
Step 2. Go to Morthal (in Hjaalmarch), Falkreath, or Dawnstar (in The Pale
) Select one of the three cities; Each city has its own Jarl and challenges that you must fulfill.
Step 3. Enter the Jarl hall in the city of your choice
Once inside, talk to the Jarl, and you'll be given an assignment.
In Skyrim, you can't buy houses/land unless the Jarl knows you
Step 4. Complete the challenge that Jarl gives you
After you finish it, Jarl will give you a thane ((power to buy land given by the king). Now you have the right to buy land which is under Jarl's control.
Step 5. Ask the Jarls about the land they are selling
Jarl will confirm the land auction. Then the Jarl will tell you to talk to his maid.
Step 6. Speak to the Jarl's maid
Now you can be able to buy the land.
Each land costs 5,000 septim (gold) and requires you to go to the land it is located on
Tips
- Each land needs you to complete all the requests of the Jarls who rule the land.
- Each piece of land costs 5,000 septim (gold).
- Unlike houses, you have to build a house on your own land; meaning, once you buy the land, the land is vacant and you need to build a house from scratch.
- If you join Stormcloaks during the civil war, Jarl of Morthal will give you less of a challenge to do to become a thane.
- Consider that in addition to using 5,000 septims (gold) for the land, you will likely need to spend more money to build and expand your home.
