This wikiHow teaches you how to increase data speed on iPhone and iPad. You can take several steps to help increase internet speed on iPhone and iPad.
Step
Step 1. Use Wi-Fi, not a cellular network
Usually Wi-Fi is indeed faster than cellular data plans. Use the available Wi-Fi in your area. Look for articles on how to connect to a wireless network using your iPhone if you want to log into a Wi-Fi network on your iPhone or iPad. You can also do some of the steps below:
- Open the app Settings.
- Touch Wi-Fi.
- Touch the toggle next to " Wi-Fi ".
- Touch an existing Wi-Fi network.
- Type in the Wi-Fi password.
Step 2. Use 4G mobile network
If there's no Wi-Fi channel somewhere, you'll need to use a cellular network. If you have to, the fastest option for now is the 4G network. Select a 4G network by performing the steps below:
- Open the app Settings.
- Touch Cellular Data.
- Touch Cellular Data Options.
- Touch 4G.
Step 3. Touch the toggle button
next to "Enable LTE".
Although 4G is the fastest cellular network, LTE (Long Term Evolution) is the standard provided by cellular service providers that can achieve true 4G speeds. If your iPad or iPhone is already connected to a 4G LTE network, it will have higher internet speeds, more consistently than if you were only connected to a basic 4G network. When you are in the " Cellular Data Options " menu in Settings, enable LTE by touching the toggle next to " Enable LTE " at the top.
If the data plan you are using does not have 4G LTE, contact your cellular data plan operator to add this facility to your data plan
Step 4. Turn off Background Apps Refresh
Background Apps Refresh is used to refresh (refresh) applications that are in the background every few seconds. By turning off Background Apps Refresh, the internet speed of frequently used apps will increase. Turn off Background Apps Refresh by doing the steps below:
- Open the app Settings.
- Touch General.
- Touch Background App Refresh.
- Touch Background App Refresh which is at the top.
-
Touch Off.
You can also disable Background App Refresh for a specific app by touching the toggle next to the app in the "Background App Refresh" menu
Step 5. Turn off Auto Downloads
Auto Downloads can consume a lot of internet bandwidth, thus slowing down internet speed. Disable Auto Downloads by performing the steps below:
- Open the app Settings.
- Tap your name and profile photo at the top.
- Touch iTunes & App Store.
- Touch the toggle button on the side Music, Apps, Books & Audiobooks, and Updates.
Step 6. Update to the latest iOS
iOS is the basic operating system run by the iPad and iPhone. Keep iOS up to date to fix network and security issues that are making internet connection slow. Update iOS with below steps:
- Open the app Settings.
- Touch General.
- Touch Software Update.
- Touch Download and Install.
Step 7. Refresh network connection
You can temporarily increase internet speed by refreshing it. The trick is to disconnect the network and reconnect it. The easiest way to refresh the network connection is to turn on Air Plane mode for about 20 seconds, then turn it off. Refresh network connection by performing below steps:
- Swipe up from the bottom of the screen.
- Touch the Air Plane icon.
- Wait for about 20 seconds.
- Touch the Air Plane icon again.
Step 8. Restart your iPad or iPhone
If your iPad or iPhone is having issues, restart the device to refresh the entire system and fix issues you weren't aware of. Restart your iPad or iPhone by pressing and holding the power button in the upper-right corner. Slide the slider button to the right when it appears. Twenty seconds later, press the power button again to turn on the device.
Step 9. Restart the router (router)
If you're having trouble connecting to a Wi-Fi network, it's probably the network that's the problem. Restarting the router might solve the problem. You can restart the router by unplugging it from the power source for about 30 seconds and plugging it back in. Wait about 1 minute while the router restarts.
