You may be confused about getting a boarding pass or boarding pass at the airport if it's your first time flying or just visiting the airport again after a long time. However, don't worry as long as you have enough time to check in or check in. Once you find the counter to check in, you can ask the staff to print out your boarding pass. In addition, there is a self check-in counter available to save you time.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Check In at Airline Counter
Step 1. Arrive at the airport 2-3 hours before the flight time
For domestic flights, you only need 2 hours to check in and pass through the screening gate before arriving at the departure gate. As for international flights, come to the airport 3 hours before departure time.
- Please check the specific regulations of each airline, but in general the recommended time to arrive at the airport is 2-3 hours before the flight time.
- The time it takes to check in may vary depending on the size of the airport, day, season of travel, and other factors. It's better that you have more time than deliberately wasting time.
Step 2. Look for the airline's check-in counter and line up
Most airlines have different queues depending on the type of traveler. For example, priority program members and first-class travelers will receive priority check-in. Make sure you are in the right queue for your ticket reservation.
If you have luggage, you will still have to go to the check-in counter to leave the luggage
Step 3. Provide the check-in officer with personal information and flight information
Depending on the airline and the destination you are flying to, the clerk will ask for your flight number and ticket booking number. In addition, they can also check you from the ID card or passport that you attach. Prepare all information and documents to provide to staff.
- If you booked your ticket online, print out a confirmation email with flight information to give to airline staff when they check your name.
- Make sure you bring your passport to board international flights!
Step 4. You will get a boarding pass and leave all the bags that will go into the trunk when checking in
Airline staff will usually check your bag while printing your boarding pass. Make sure you take a baggage receipt to be used as proof of baggage collection at the destination.
Step 5. Check boarding pass for the gate number and go to security
Follow the signs at the airport to get to the proper security gate. Also prepare your entry pass, passport or identity card to show to airport officials.
Be prepared to remove shoes and other metal objects when passing through the security check gates. Also, make sure you don't have any prohibited items in your carry-on bag
Method 2 of 2: Using Self Check In Counter
Step 1. Arrive at the airport within the recommended timeframe which is 2-3 hours before the flight time
Self-check-in queues usually take a shorter time than waiting at a counter line with airline staff. However, also prepare additional time to enter the security gate and to anticipate things that are not desirable. Check the specific arrival time recommendation of the airline used.
Keep in mind that you'll still need to go to the airline's check-in counter in advance if you have bags you want to put in your baggage
Step 2. Look for self-check-in kiosks and then look for open counters or join the queue
This kiosk is usually located near the check-in counter which is guarded by airline staff. The advantage of the self check in kiosk is that you don't have to wait for a long time in line.
Have your ID card and flight information on hand when going to the kiosk. If you are going to take an international flight, you must prepare your passport as well
Step 3. Follow the instructions on the kiosk screen to print the boarding pass
The check-in kiosk will instruct you to enter your flight information or scan your ID card. Sometimes, you can also scan the credit card used to pay for the flight ticket as an identification tool for check-in.
- Passport is an object that must be carried on international flights. You will be asked to scan it at the kiosk.
- Bring a printed copy of the confirmation email you got when you bought your ticket online so you can see all the flight details.
Step 4. Look for the gate number and follow the signs at the airport to the security gate leading to the departure gate
Remember to always have your ID and boarding pass ready to show to security. Also make sure that your carry-on bag meets airport security requirements.
